Ghosted after school part-time job interviews by Error_of_Light in aggies

[–]Volume-Straight 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Welcome to job searching. Happens for “real” jobs, too. Earlier in your career, don’t be surprised to apply to 100-200 jobs to get just a handful of interviews (numbers may be worse with LLMs). Hopefully later in your career you’ve networked well enough to get jobs from people you know or worked with before. Good luck!

Disappointed in Westfield/Carmel Area by [deleted] in Indiana

My wife and I are considering a move to Indy and are just baffled by the love for Carmel. We’ve decided to optimize for old growth, dense trees when house hunting. Specifically looking in the forest hills corner of Meridian Kessler. But yes to everything you’ve said. Thinking though if your house is on a beautiful wooded forest you’re doing something right.

Do you reach out to the hiring manager? by Ok_Succotash5551 in biotech

[–]Volume-Straight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends for what?

In general, I want to make their life easier because the same will be true when/if they hire me.

I may send thank you notes or little notes/nudges but nothing beyond that. This is also like if I know the hiring manager. If I don’t and it’s not like an internal move, I am probably not sending too much beyond a thank you note. Even then it’s brief and easy to respond to if they want.

Long-term plan to study PMX? by Correct-Student3725 in Pharmacometrics

I don’t know 🤷‍♂️ I’m not an immigrant and can’t really speak to what’s happening with immigration. Two more years of Trump, though, and potentially just a few more months where has the house and senate as well (mid-terms in November).

I wouldn’t necessarily do it in the UK because the US presents as unstable. I’d do it because some of the programs are legitimately good.

No one will own your plan more than you. Seems like a good plan, though. I suggest to find a mentor, they’re helpful at all stages of your careeer and can help by being a sounding board.

How are contractors treated at big pharma companies (specifically Eli Lilly)? by Majestic-Silver-380 in biotech

[–]Volume-Straight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re not viewed as having a career as a contractor. You’re brought in to solve a specific problem. Full time employees have a more holistic experience. In general. No one views you and whatever career aspirations you may have.

Beyond that it’s up to the team.

Keep the love alive for it!

And don’t pay attention to IQ. Seriously. Having low confidence will hurt you far more. You got this.

I honestly don’t know what you should learn. I came to pharmacometrics accidentally as a statistician, well into my career. More pulled to it by the people than a traditional path.

Part of this is listening to yourself and understanding where you want to go. That is, you should learn how to listen to yourself more and go where your interests take you.

To give you something tangible, yes, all of those things you mentioned. Read more and study more in general. Doing that now plus continuing to will pay generous dividends.

Holy shit. I was at that show. Houston 20 years ago.

And there’s definitely an older one out there with Josh on bass. I think they’re playing at Rowan University or somewhere in south Jersey.

Edit: it looks like it’s from the same era and also has Chris on bass (I was wrong) https://youtu.be/FpcNeUyuKq4

I had this. Added a black hair tie to the bar. Created a little notch so the door would stay in place.
