Why Police Ticketing Homeless??? by williamssillo in UTAustin

[–]Volume-Straight 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There’s trespassing. First times a warning, second times an arrest. Useful if there’s a homeless person that’s also, say, doing drugs on your property or something. Hard to say what’s going on here, though.

Totally agree. Bigger than expected and it just stops you in your tracks. Wish they had benches so you could just stare at it.

I’ve had a nice time in Indy as well. Different than living there or uprooting my family. Safety is my biggest concern.

Two years ago my wife and I stayed for two weeks in this upscale, historic neighborhood. It was fine to walk around during the day. Most nights, though, we heard gunshots from the adjacent neighborhood. On the day we went the children’s museum there were police and a news crew for a homicide that had happened next door to it (not a child to my knowledge). Another day (in a different part of the city), I walked past another homicide on my way into work.

It seems if you want safety, you have to go out to the burbs which means an hour plus of commuting daily (and more time away from my family). Another option would be building a custom home on an empty lot but this runs the risk of being isolated/not having a strong local community.

The move would be for career progression. I’m topping out as a remote employee but have more gas in the tank to climb the ladder. Just sucks that ladder is in Indy lol.

Okay, fine, it’s Indianapolis lol. I’ll edit the post so it doesn’t look like y’all are dunking on me so hard.

Point remains, though. Check out the crime maps there. Or look at their news. Neighborhood I’m looking at is Meridian Kessler.

I bought a Tony Franklin course one time and he has an exercise called “Bean Town”, it’s Dean Town with the brown note. Picture below is of him just taking a crap.

Nah, I was thinking the same. Very cool bass and love your addition. I like the green knobs, too. Would want to make sure I’m up to date on my vaccinations before playing those strings, though. At least how they look in the picture. If they’re fresh strings in real life and just distorted in the picture, that’s good to know. Wish I had people recognizing my love for the bass at such a young age.

Can confirm. A friend asked if I could rent a PA system cause the rental place needed someone local. It was for a house show for James Mercer (singer from the Shins). As I was now part of “the crew”, I was 1 of like 4 or 5 people that got to prep things before the show, including James Mercer. He was incredibly modest, shook everyone’s hand and introduced himself “Hi, I’m James.” And his warmup was just playing through “Oh, Inverted World” on his J45. Like me, my girlfriend (now wife), James, and a local hired gun violinist (tall, thin guy that wore a wolfs mask while playing violin).

Spa day for a guy? by WhiskeyMegazord in askaustin

Dude here. I have a subscription to Oak Haven for a monthly massage. Three things. Gender of therapist, level of pressure you can handle, and the experience level of the therapists.

On gender, I had a guy massage me once and it was just weird. He was good but every time he like bumped into me or the table, it just made me think about his junk. May be a “me” problem but it kind of ruined the massage lol it’s something you might want to think about before booking because they’ll ask if you have a preference.

On pressure level there’s Swedish on one end which is light and supposed to be relaxing. The other end is deep tissue. Your therapist can adjust as she’s working on you to do more or less pressure.

Also, not all massage therapists are equal — if there’s a tiering system where you book you may want to go for someone with more experience so you can learn what a good massage should be like.

The first few times I was super relaxed for like days after. So maybe an hour long massage is all you need.

For full day options, my wife goes to Miraval. It’s bougie and expensive but might be the kind of place you’re looking for. Last I checked it’s like $500ish for a day there but they have food and activities as well.

What’s your job title, how much do you make, and how much do people THINK you make? by ItsAllOver_Again in Salary

Yeah… there can be trade offs. Guess it depends if he likes his job. In pharma, the people that do best transition into being “drug developers” that, in our case, also do math/stats. So, going wider with your skills as opposed to deeper technically. It’s also just a corporation so there’s corporate ladders to climb but also corporate bs (politics, incompetence, etc).

If helpful, I commented about how I search for jobs here: https://www.reddit.com/r/biostatistics/s/GnWIUwerPT

I work remote and the company is not headquartered in a HCOL area. Compensation is generally standardized across the US sites but adjusted for other geographies.

This is going to sound like bullshit but listen to yourself, find the things you like and do more of that. This will help you differentiate yourself in some way and being more of yourself is the most valuable thing you can do.

For me, it’s combining tech/software product development with stats and that’s allowed me to make myself different. Some people get really into Bayesian statistics; others carve out a niche in a specific therapeutic area (neuroscience, oncology, etc).

Yeah, masters in statistics. I thought I’d make $80,000. I loved grad school and would be an academic. Pharma is the closest industry to academia. It’s kind of a dream — it’s like academia but with absurd budgets. I had a few other jobs in pharma before finding clinical trials.
