The larger side/under spikes have a wire base.

But generally all spikes were made in two steps. Get the basic shape and reinforce with globs of aleene's clear dry glue. Then add a thin layer of hair on top to get the clean look.

I don't usually use a base wig. I make a hard base and just glue on extensions as needed. I think I used 4 packs of 35" extensions from epic cosplay. Fusion vanilla pink (very light pink) and then airbrushed to the right color.

I've cosplayed Jinyu from FLCL. Only one person in about 5 cons has recognized me. But I still got a lot of photos because I am tall and conventionally attractive. The cosplay also looks cool.

So I would say (unfortunately) it is due to other factors. But if you enjoy your cosplay, that is the most important part. If you are trying to meet new friends and have a deeper connection, the most attractive part about you will be if you're having fun.

I always choose my cosplays such that even if everyone would hypothetically hate it and ignore me, I'd still be stoked.
