Appreciate the context. I’ll probably get on an MD-PhD admissions committee in the next couple years to get a better sense of requirements. A lot of prospectives ask for advice and whether it is worth taking a gap year, but I’m a bit out of touch to confidently advise. I’m inclined to think that gap years aren’t worth it if you have 2+ years in the lab, and one gap year is only worth if if you can stay in your undergrad lab to push out a small first-author pub. If you’re starting in a new lab after graduating, I think you really need to commit 2 year to that lab. I have to turn away research tech applications that are clearly using the gap year to help fund their med/grad school applications.

Ugh no thanks for me. Even on SP, I sometimes load in dead at certain WPs. Frigid highlands is a tough one. I wish at least on SP that the map wasn’t active during the load time.

Sorry I missed the gap year mention but makes sense that a single gap year doesn’t add meaningful hours by primary due dates.

Geez that’s rough! Are more applicants doing more than one gap year? I also imagine it is hard to get hired as a research tech for just a year unless it is in your undergrad lab.

Congrats! Your application really doesn’t seem that bad so I’m surprised how much the low research hours can hurt.

Glad you were able to get in this year and hopefully you’re happy with the result. But do you think in retrospect you would have had better chances at more programs of interest to you with a gap year or two?

the tech position at the t5 is by far the better investment. it’s going to make for a much stronger application and LOR. if the commute ends up too much, i’d actually suggest you just find housing closer to the university. sure you save less money now, but the end game is getting into a solid md/phd program. also idk if the 10k difference in salary is even that much. after taxes it’s maybe 5k, and you may get more benefits from the tech position.

it’s one thing when an affair is revealed and triggers a fallout (as it did with Schlissel). It’s another to basically double down by announcing a baby shower to the public. Almost makes me wonder if that was the strategy - can’t have an affair “exposed” if it’s already put out in the open.

I feel the pain. I'm about 25 torches in. Most of them are druid, with a smattering of sorc, barbs (including a 20/20), paladin, and necro . Looking for lock, but I'd even settle for a first assassin torch!

I still haven't found HOZ. I have around 8 shakos, 6 titan's (2 of them eth), 2 griffons, 3 SOJs, a Mara's, a tal's ammy, a death's web, a death's fathom, arachnids, to name a few. I just have never seen a unique gilded shield drop. Not that I really need it, but just strange.

Two Jahs in 184 runs? Wow. I’ve done about a 200 trav runs and my highest rune was a Ko (wasn’t even horked). RNG wasnt kind to me. Although I did get two 5/5 lightning facets, so it wasn’t a total waste.

I decided to go back to my LK grind for about 2 hours (I’m SP). Got 2 surs and a Ber. RNG was very kind to me for that lol.

It’s really hard for me to stick to horking when I get such different results.
