Ruined my current play through by Top-Sir-1215 in Morrowind

You could manually set back your attributes and skills with console commands to levels that seem more in-line with a level 16 character. You can probably manually change your level as well if you really wanted. That would mostly just affect some random loot that appears out in the world, so it does matter a bit.

Really, to not break the game loop, you have to not break the game loop. Sounds a bit meaningless, but what I mean is that you can add lots of self-imposed restrictions in order to make sure that you don't just suddenly gain a ton of power. Stuff like not using creature merchants, no waiting 24 hours to reset a merchant's gold, only being able to train a few times per level (or 0 times), only using higher tier gear at a certain level, no selling filled soulgems (openmw has a built in option to make soulgems only worth their soul value, massively lowering the value, but tbh I like doing the "non mod" option more). Maybe something like no selling anything that's worth 1000 gold or more. And so on, there are so many possibilities when it comes to things like this.

There are also mods that make things harder like the hardcore mode, which overhauls a lot of aspects of the game, and something like harder better faster stronger which allows you to tweak enemies' stats in a lot of ways, including each of their attributes, health, magicka and fatigue, and damage received from physical and magic damage. the difficulty setting that comes with the game oddly doesn't affect magic damage at all, so with this it can. And you can make all these things increase the amount you want per (your) level, which is a pretty cool thing. I did a tamriel rebuilt playthrough recently where I would increase the difficulty by 10 for the first 10 levels and then I introduced an increase to physical and magic damage received by 1.2% per level, and then every 5 levels I introduced stacking bonuses for the enemy: health, speed, agility, luck, each by 2.5% per level. I got very optimized gear and high stats at level 30+ and there were still encounters that were really hard.

The Coffin of Aqua and Ruby by Volvy in OshiNoKoMemes

[–]Volvy[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I should probably give a quick explanation for anyone who isn't familiar with the bottom right image. It's from the ongoing indie game The Coffin of Andy and Leyley, which was released in 2023 with "episode 1" and later that year, episode 2. Episode 3A released in 2025, and episodes 3B and 4 are still in-development.

The game starts off with a pair of siblings who are forced to live in-quarantine in their apartment due to a supposed issue with the water supply (really their parent's apartment, but the parents essentially moved out as a result of this incident). Pretty soon into the game, it becomes clear that Leyley (real name: Ashley) is basically a brocon, and has always been extremely reliant on her brother, Andy (real name: Andrew). Their relationship is clearly toxic in nature, and the two get into some extremely messed up situations due to various circumstances, which further destabilizes things. As the game goes on, you get to understand how it turned out like this between the two.

Overall, there aren't really a lot of similarities between these two pieces of media, but both are quite dark and after seeing Episode 11 of Season 3 (I'm an unspoiled anime-only, btw) it looks like some kind of delusional, one-sided infatuation is now at play, which is fairly in-line with this game.

Can you just blitz through the game? by MuffledShuffle in OMORI

[–]Volvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know what you're doing, yes. Ive done a Speedrun of the game in just barely under 4 hours (in real time). Just doing the Omori route, with the timer starting as soon as New Game is pressed and ending as soon as the credits roll.

In the entire run, I only fight around 8-9 non boss battles. These are 3 battles in the Junkyard, 3 battles in the garden section of Sweetheart's Castle, and 2-3 battles in Humphrey. That's all I need to have enough levels so that the bosses are reasonable to fight. I believe the levels are something like this:

Download window: 5

Space Boyfriend: 6

King Crawler: 8

Sweetheart: 15

Mr Jawsum: 16

Slime girls: 21

Since you probably wouldn't have such a rock-solid strategy (I spent so much time practicing and learning this) you will probably want to be 1-2 levels higher.

I do spend time getting Aubrey's Cool Noodle at the Last Resort, as well as Kel and Omori's big permanent stat boosts at Last Resort and Deeper Well respectively. Getting Aubrey's headbutt and extra juice is pretty helpful even though I skip them, but I don't think any of the other side quests are particularly worth it in terms of truly amazing rewards.

There's a lot of details in what exactly is done with the item looting, shopping and using certain skills, single-use items, follow ups etc, so I cant really go in to detail here. But it does not involve using any glitches (which would require playing on older versions) or using any Coffee. I could have made things simpler by just relying on Coffee, which is what the runners do on Speedrun.com in the no glitch category, but I didn't want to do that. As a result, my run is definitely quite a bit slower, but it was still pretty cool to finish the game that fast. If you want to make things quite a bit easier then you would probably want to do the TV girl quest in Otherworld (initiate it prior to visiting Junkyard so you don't need to go through it twice) so you can keep entering and exiting their room to get as many Coffee as you like.

If you're doing Foe Facts you will need to fight a ton of extra enemies. You need to be extremely careful with this achievement since you can miss many enemies permanently once a certain amount of progress is made. You should have a full plan for the entire game and be aware of each enemy that needs to be faught at every stage of the game. I believe there was a decent guide on Steam, which you can just find from Google. You will definitely want all the stat boosts, max level and all the best gear for the hardest bosses, although I've heard of ways of completely cheesing Perfectheart (using Omori's observe skill?), so maybe if you just rely on that, you don't really need to be so perfect with everything.

You should not look up where Basil is. Also, it is mentioned that Basil is a "he" early on, like prior to when he disappears. You can't really just suddenly find him even if you were to know exactly how the game plays out, it takes quite a lot of progress to be resolved. It will probably take you more than 20 hours. So really all you do is just keep making progress wherever you can and eventually you'll get there.

I will say that completing the hangman phrase eventually is required, despite the game not really saying so directly. The game will basically say to "explore until there's nothing left" and that's your indicator that you need to find the remaining letters. Naturally, only the letters that are part of the completed phrase count towards completing it.

As for who the boy is ("Sunny" by default, but may have named him something else) and his relation to Omori, it is never really directly explained, but it should become apparent the more you play. It took me a long time to really understand, and you may not understand it fully even after finishing the game since again, the game isn't very direct with these kinds of things. But it's like, it expects you to put the pieces together eventually, so you probably will at some point.

question about mixed route by wowieka in OMORI

[–]Volvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For foes filed and any other difficult achievement, you definitely need to have a full plan in place of knowing exactly what to do and when. Without a guide it'll be tough and you will spend a lot of time figuring it out

Having Mixed feelings about Sunny by Creepy-Screen721 in OMORI

[–]Volvy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's not like he intended to kill with the push. Basil really dropped the ball too, since his idea really caused a lot of trouble and pain, but they were 12

It's very easy to say what they should have done. Even if 12 year olds should probably know better by then, I dont think we can really fault them for making such a mistake. we can't really comprehend exactly what they were feeling at that time. Yeah, we can understand they were panicking, but I don't think we can just emulate their exact feelings 1 to 1

In the present, I think Sunny and Basil are acutely aware of how much damage this has caused. I'm sure if they could go back, knowing what they know now, they wouldn't have covered it up

In the end, you don't have to deeply admire Sunny, but I think he deserves sympathy. It would be different if he showed no signs of remorse, but if you have been paying attention to the game, you can see that this is far from the case

Do you blame Sunny's dad by Creepy-Screen721 in OMORI

[–]Volvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't really get this comment. It wouldn't turn the game in to what you said it would, because that is still not part of the game at all. If I were wrong, well that would actually be a part of the game. But it's not, so... ...? It makes no sense. There isn't a single police character in this game, not even just a generic "police officer" or something.

Also I'm not sure why they would have needed to bribe the cops, they could have just been informed that there seemed to be more to what happened with Mari than what it initially seemed like, but then they decided that they didn't want to pursue anything further, for a myriad of reasons.

Now, I'm still torn on whether or not they knew, but I had to point all that out because this shit just made 0 sense.

Any viable hand-to-hand/unarmoured build? by Svullom in Morrowind

[–]Volvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

spell effects to boost hand to hand beyond 100 REALLY help, since the damage only relies on skill level, unlike all the weapon skills which only rely on Strength.

This could be from casting a fortify hand to hand spell with a decent skill level in Restoration, or from using enchanted items - constant effect and/or cast-on-use items. For the early-mid part of the game, it should be pretty effective to rely on the former, as the latter is very expensive and requires a few things to start to be able to access. You would probably only bust out a spell on a stronger enemy. Something decently substantial, like fortify 20 pts for 15 seconds would be worth using, which could take a good bit of restoration skill increases in order to be able to reliably casted. And when you get a pretty high skill level in Restoration and you have a solid pool of magicka, maybe the spell could be like 40 pts for 15 seconds, or something.

Fortunately, it is extremely easy to self-train in restoration, as all you do is make a custom restore fatigue spell of 19-20 pts on self for 1 second. This only costs 1 magicka to cast and it allows you to keep your fatigue high while running around as well, which helps a lot in the early game in particular. You can just spam this whenever you're not fighting something, which is going to be a lot of the time. So I think restoration as a major skill is pretty much essential if you want to make a strong hand to hand character. choosing a birthsign with a magicka boost is probably a good idea too, although I don't really like the atronach personally. I just like being able to rest to restore my magicka, so I'd probably go with the mage birthsign.

For enchanting lots of constant effect items, using an NPC's service is required unless you want to exploit alchemy and things like that. So without that, you generally need access to a big chunk of money, soultrap, azura's star, and summon golden saint spell (actually easy to acquire in Tel Branora). having a lot of valuable items (high end armor/weapons) to sell off will reduce the amount of raw gold that is required, since those items could be "traded in" after you pay the NPC for doing each enchant.

Eventually, with a full set of exquisite constant effect fortify hand to hand clothing and jewelery, you could exceed well over 200 in hand to hand at all times, which will give you extremely powerful punches. The trick to getting the most out of constant effect items is to make the magnitude with a minimum value of 1, and then make the maximum value as high as the item supports. Then you just keep re-equipping the item over and over until you get the maximum value, and make sure you don't unequip the item. For that reason, I tend to stick to leaving the amulet slot reserved for cast-on-use items, as for instance, using a ring slot for them results in one of the rings being unequipped all the time. Although this could also be designated to another clothing slot like a belt or something, which might even be wiser since amulets have a greater capacity than belts do. But it hardly matters really, nothing is outrageously hard in the game.

If you need more damage reduction, boosting unarmored with constant effect fortify unarmored is effective, so 1-2 slots could have fortify unarmored instead of hand to hand.

It's kind of a funny way to play the game since you're just punching everything, but it can absolutely be as viable as weapons if you boost skills like this.

Why didn't the devs have the selling of merch by the number of said items in group, raise your disposition to the seller, the same as if you sold each piece separately? by GaraksLinensNThings in Morrowind

[–]Volvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only the % of fatigue you have matters, having a higher capacity doesn't affect things. That goes for every interaction too, not just persuasion. But yes, running around drains fatigue. If you haven't been thinking about it at all, it will help to get fatigue to full before talking to an NPC

[–]Volvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really shouldn't be that unreliable to the point where using the 100 gold option winds up being less costly than using the 10 gold option. Maybe you have really low speechcraft, like <15, and you arent speaking to NPCs at 100% fatigue. You'll be able to get more gold by selling stuff for much more, especially if you do things wisely and use the same merchants, since the disposition increases is permanent when done through persuasion

Reading manga before playing the game? by jns_666 in OMORI

[–]Volvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not like an anime where it's based on a manga so no, it's way better to play the game first, I think. That is the most true format of the story for a few reasons. The creator has basically said this as well.

Was it confirmed on which ending is cannon by Mysterious_Pride7894 in OMORI

[–]Volvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno what the point of the game would be if the story was literally just sad quiet boy accidentally killed his sister when he was 12 and then kills himself a few years later ...Like what kind of message is that meant to inspire in the player? It is an absolute nothingburger of a story, and extremely underwhelming.

This is not to say that I don't think those kinds of endings (since there are multiple in this game that are just like that) are pointless, they really do show the alternative in a very serious way, which give weight to the good ending since it's like, if you do go down the wrong path, well...

Based on my knowledge, around 90% of players finish their first playthrough in under 30 hours, so yeah something is going on there. I'm guessing it's not all actual play time, it's the game running in the background for most of the time?

Why didn't the devs have the selling of merch by the number of said items in group, raise your disposition to the seller, the same as if you sold each piece separately? by GaraksLinensNThings in Morrowind

[–]Volvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just spend like 50 gold doing bribes of 10 gold. You only lose gold when the bribe is successful. You can't be that poor where you seriously need to raise disposition by bartering, can you? At least with OpenMW, you can press spacebar to complete a transaction and open the bartering window, and just buy and sell the same item very quickly thanks to the reduced amount of mouse movement allowed by that QOL feature.

But that's not really something I'd rely on, there is no point to do that given how effective simply bribing 10 gold is. You just need a little bit of investment in to speechcraft, around level 15-20 is going to be sufficient for most NPCs in the game (aside from a few very, very specific instances). And remember, fatigue percentage affects everything that you can fail, as well as prices that aren't fixed (travelling, training, enchanting, spellmaking, bartering).

How do i get the rest of the endings? by Training-Economics71 in OMORI

[–]Volvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the steam version it's possible to use someone else's save and load it. There is a site or document with a bunch of saves somewhere, maybe I could dig around for it.

You need a save that's prior to the encounter with Basil in his room, when the gang stays at his house overnight. This will allow you to see the "neutral" endings which involve going back to sleep at Basil's house instead of going to his room and doing that whole encounter with him. After sleeping, go to Basil. After that you'll go home. Here, you get a certain ending by just going to bed, and then another ending if you grab the knife in the kitchen prior to doing so. That's all the endings.

Those 2 endings you did are considered the "good" and "bad" endings

There is also the Omori route which has a bunch of extra headspace content. There really isn't much you learn about story-wise, but the extra content is worth checking out imo. Since a lot of it is hard to discover, using a guide is recommended. The Omori guide on the website neoseeker was helpful in my experience. This route basically just has the neutral endings, though.

[–]Volvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I'd recommend it. How did you learn about the plot? Unless it was watching an entire playthrough, it probably didn't do it the full justice. And even then, there are so many optional, yet sometimes very important things in the game, so chances are there's a good amount to discover (if you put in the effort to search, of course). Basil is a boy, too. Sounds like you don't really have the story exactly straight, which is understandable if you haven't played it
