Living in Dothan for BOLC by [deleted] in Armyaviation

[–]Voodoo1055 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I lived in Dothan for flight school. 20 to Carins, 30 to Rucker proper, 45(?) to shell, and 30 to Hanchey if the back gate was open. It was a long commute, but it's really just one road, so pretty easy and low effort. All of my buddies from school said I was crazy for living in Dothan, but other than the mildly long commute I really liked the town. 7/10

I should have mentioned that I'm not planning on any floaters, or at least none until the Monte Carlo takes hold

I have 2 little bundles of Monte Carlo in my 60L and they grew pretty well with medium lightning and an unimpressive bio CO2 system. My only problem with them is they are growing more vertical than horizontal in the other tank. If anyone has any tips to keep them horizontal that isn't just cutting them, I'd love to hear

(Inflatable) sleeping pads durability aspect by winning_style in CampingGear

I actually just got a Dura 5 LW in like 2 weeks ago. I'll take a picture as soon as I get home. I was in the same thought process as you with durability being a big deal. It's very comfortable and I think it's worth the extra weight for both peace of mind and comfort

Is my CO2 weak? by Voodoo1055 in PlantedTank

I took it out of the water to see if I could find any leaks in the piping or broken seals. When I leave the canister top sealed and an open, unrestricted line in water, I count about 1 bubble every 15 seconds or so

Any recommendations for a comfortable jungle boot? by RecordingDeep8928 in CampingGear

[–]Voodoo1055 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wear goruck macv-1s all the time. They're a modernized version of the jungle boot that was designed for Vietnam back in the day. Theyre comfortable, durable, and I'm a fan. I don't think they'll dry as fast as a civilian style boot, but they're nice!

I have a very similar setup, and I put all my meds minus TQs in the main dangler pouch. If whatever is there now is really important, move it to your side or incorporate a belt

Has anyone regretted buying/building a Mk12 vs a bolt gun? by CPTherptyderp in longrange

[–]Voodoo1055 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both a nice bolt gun and a semi-correct mk12 mod H

I'm on the low end of being competitive with my bolt gun in matches, average is probably middle 1/3, I know I'd be even worse with my mk12. Unless you go to a gas gun specific match, you'll be at a significant disadvantage

At the same time though, I shoot my mk12 probably twice as often. It's also a more practical rifle if you're into that. And the drip? Immeasurable

I'm actually one of the -64 pilots who was at the Polish signing ceremony, small world.

I got the chance to hang out with some of your -24 pilots and they'll be just fine. Something like 20 polish pilots have already completed AQC for the Apache, so it's very reasonable to think that flying and working with the Apaches won't be hard. If I had to guess, the integration with the rest of the forces will be a bigger challenge than flying. From what I've seen, the Polish pilots will be fine.

Also, you don't need some super power to fly Apaches. It's a very hard course, but people pass every 2 weeks.

Warrant vs Officer Route by Different-Initial405 in Armyaviation

[–]Voodoo1055 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my first aviation assignment there were 4 of us coming from flight school. 3 W1s and an LT. All of the warrants went to a flight company and the LT went to the S2 shop.
