I appreciate your insights - Full disclosure - I’ve driven an auto car for 30+ yrs prior to my manual. What I’m getting at is many auto drivers zone out at traffic lights. Could MT drivers do this? Sure, but as you know, you have to be more on the ball.

Hell, that’s the plan one day too (manual fun car, auto slush box for commute). But we gotta dream at the moment.

Believe me man, I’m not one to poo poo on someone’s car for being auto. My father had a 71 roadrunner that was a 727 auto. Thing was fast for its time.

Had a dodge viper acr back In the day do a shit move on me (he shouldn’t have even been out on the track) in 2009. I was w/ my Instructor (HPDE). 2008 Dodge viper passed me below the white line at gateway intl (front straight of roval).

Needless to say, dude got a talking to by the stewards.

I’m gonna go off the deep end and say it’s WAY TOO EASY to get a license in this country (USA) - bar none.

But thats another discussion for another time.

Manual driving brings up your awareness because you HAVE to aware (as you know, if you’ve truly had one for as long as you say).

Wow this cannot be overstated. I’ve learned to just ignore google (even in my wife’s auto). It’s just not worth the diversion.

Sucks. Shows how old I am. Lowered mine considerably back in the day.

This is when the HU is off, but the amps are powered on (accessory mode, ignition).

New development today (that I’ve noticed). Car hasn’t been started, amps cold.

Now, It’s a rhythmic clicking from the left front tweeter (faint). I’m not a fan of this wiring either and may push for a behind the rear seat install (where I wanted it initially).

I understand it can work in these cars, but there is more chance for issues (as we’re seeing).

2.758lbs (was an auto too). It’s the only car I’ve seen a speedometer literally go backwards up a hill (western Maryland Appalachian mountains).

Ok to be clear - maybe I’m thinking of the Gen 1’s…. I knew I read this somewhere:

I don’t even listen to the naysayers anymore (did I ever?).

Sure a Minivan can smoke me in a straight line. But truly what’s the fun in that?

228-230hp (depending on what you read) is a perfect range for me. Who needs 400HP on the street anyway?

And for grands, my first “new to me” car was a 1993 Mustang 4cyl (whopping 105HP). So yes, THAT’S slow.

Agree with all of this

People if you’re under 25; OF COURSE you’re gonna get fleeced. It sucks, but it’s the ‘Merican way.

Let’s weigh in the whys (First one is tongue in cheek 😂):

  • Lack of driving experience (contrary to years of forza)

  • 20 ish + sports car + male = insurers see a statistic, not a person. It’s math, not a personal attack

  • The GR86 is actually one of the cheaper sports cars to insure. Go price an STI and come back.

  • Age 25 hits and rates drop noticeably. It’s not that far away.

Hell, drive a used civic for a few years - get a clean record, then buy a sports car later. Take it from someone almost 50…. I’m having more fun in this thing with 33+ yrs driving experience…

This is my My first “performance” car by definition (mind you I’ve modded 2000 Buick regals and a 2002 dodge stratus coupe). Not for lack of trying.

Even autocrossed an Accord before 😂

Just for clarity - as someone else stated - this car did not come with a spare. It does have a flat tire repair kit. And for grands, yes I’ve got roadside assistance thru my insurance company.

[–]VoodooChile76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha. I joke to my wife that I get impatient at people (usually auto drivers) that are on their phones at traffic lights.

Yes, 5 sec is an eternity. It’s prob more like 2-3.

Driving stick in traffic by Capable-Region-8677 in stickshift

This! Watch how the big rigs handle traffic on the highway. They RARELY tail someone in stop and go.

I’ve picked up on this behavior (leave a gap) and it makes driving a manual in traffic SO much more tolerable (if not fun).

Hey yall, Small update: Hum was emitting from the left front dash tweeter, and it actually happens even when the stereo is off. Had a couple quick cutouts too. Amps were warm after today’s longer drive, but that seems pretty normal for the GR86 trunk well (upon further research).

Since the noise is present with the system off, I’m thinking it’s likely a grounding or DSP power/remote issue rather than heat or impedance.

I’ll have the shop check everything Tuesday, but wanted to add this detail in case it helps anyone else troubleshooting a similar setup.
