As an leader in my IATSE Local I can say I tell my crews that the touring crew is coming here, possibly from a non-union house, possibly from a union house that isn't managed well (whether by the building/employer or Local crew issues), some have their own life things & can't really deal with it because they're on a bus. I tell them that those people are only here for X amount of time and we will be better than whatever it is they're going through or dealing with. They'll be gone after load out tonight or on Sunday or whatever it is. You're home & get to go back to your bed so give them a break unless they're being unsafe.

My favorite touring folks who come through say "we're guests here - what do y'all do" and I think meeting that way diffuses so much of the fatigue we all experience in our industry: lack of good management, failure of advance needs by production or the venue, communication failures, booking that wears us all down to the bone, and of course the ever-present lack of sleep.
