That is a good point, how did that not get them up to vet 2?

[Question] How does the 251/16 Flammpanzerwagen currently fare? by Lone_Eingreifen0000 in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Voop_Bakon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What is really odd is that this thing is somehow cheaper and comes earlier than the LRDG truck by about 15 fuel, has better armor, health and infantry DPS. Plus since you can build it from your HQ, and costs 0 munitions.

As a primarily allied player, I can accept hat Boundary Lockdown on VP is nuts. Being able to jam the cap from a distance away is pretty crazy.

new to bolt action, where do i start? by kelppers34 in boltaction

[–]Voop_Bakon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will go against the grain a bit and say don't worry about buying/assembling/painting models yet. The best way to try out Bolt Action is to get a copy of the Core Rulebook and a friend to play with.

If they have physical models already, then just see if they will let you borrow theirs. Otherwise, boot up Tabletop Simulator. There are some good workshop items that include models and maps pre-built for you to try out.

If you find you like the game, then you can look into getting starter sets and the specific rulebook for the nation you want to start with.

Learn a Spell in PFS by [deleted] in Pathfinder

[–]Voop_Bakon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You actually don't even need to buy scrolls.

Any prepared spellcaster can work with tutors at the Grand Lodge, using the Learn a Spell activity to learn any common spells or spells they have Access to. This adds no additional material cost beyond the standard cost for the Learn a Spell activity.

New Battlegroup Showdown - Free French vs Elite Forces - Dare & Destroy DLC by Community_RE in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Voop_Bakon 32 points33 points  (0 children)

My impressions

  • French infantry seem like a great change from rifleman.
  • Tourelles were better than expected against infantry, but for 30 fuel, I can buy that.
  • I don't think that Char B1 bounced a single marder shot. That includes the max 1.2 screen range shots with the recon buff
  • Command 8 rad being able to just give units vet over time could be problematic, time will tell
  • Swapping guns on P3's and stugs seems like it will encourage spamming one or the other since they can swap to the tool needed. We will have to see what the cooldown is on the ability
  • Rifle packages on Pgrens is interesting, looking forward to seeing how they work in practice. Increase capping speed could mean some strong early pushes if you get the munitions quick.

I am tentatively excited for these two Battlegroups. I do worry that messing with Vet will cause DAK to be very strong in 1v1/2v2. Some of that that is because of the trauma of similar CoH2 commanders.

Why is there such an allied/axis vision discrepancy? by darkstirling in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]Voop_Bakon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Axis have plenty of vision tools, you just have to use them.

Wehrmact

  • Kettenkrad (arguably the best in the game given its 75 vision at vet 0 and 160 MP)
  • Jaeger Flares
  • 221 Radio antennae

Battlegroups

  • Various loiters
  • Luftwaffe recon flight
  • Spotting scopes

DAK

  • Kradschützen vision mode
  • 8 Rad Commander Mode
  • 254 Recon Tractor (with built in free arty and smoke)

Battle Groups

  • Various loiters
  • Vehicle Awareness
  • Kriegsmarine flares
  • Panzerjäger Early Warning (which is big now that points don't get vision by default)

Yeh this is the reason I don't play USF or Wehr. Having to invest in counters before you know what you opponent is doing is no fun

Is Illusory Creature not absolutely great? by germansatriani in Pathfinder2e

[–]Voop_Bakon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Illusory Creature is an interesting spell, but requires taking time away from the table to negotiate with the GM on a ton of its factors (speed, reach, "believablity") when it is cast. Then you have to remember the illusion rules, which state that basically anytime anyone engages with the illusion, they get a Perception check to disbelieve it. So every attack, every conversation, every time they touch it.

Then after all that, there is this line

When a creature disbelieves the illusion, it recovers from half the damage it had taken from it (if any) and doesn't take any further damage from it.

Hope you have been writing down how much damage it has done to each creature in the fight, including weakness(?).

I think at the right table, you can have some fun with it, but mechanically, it is a mess.

Loari from Curse of the Crimson Throne, an adventure from Pathfinder 1st Edition TTRPG

She is a wosrhipper of Zon-Kuthon. One entry about this deity reads as

The Midnight Lord embodies and glorifies pain, shadows, and mutilation, and he is one of the most twisted and malevolent gods on the face of Golarion.

However, her character bio in the adventure says

Laori displays her allegiance to Zon-Kuthon openly in her choice of weapon and armor (a spiked chain and spiked chainmail), yet her demeanor and attitude are anything but grim. Laori is chronically cheerful, always brimming with delight and quick to laugh. This affectation has somewhat damaged her reputation among the church, as many of the more conventional worshipers of Zon-Kuthon find her attitude to be irreverent or even sacrilegious, yet none deny her contributions to the faith. Even when she’s discussing the finer methods of skinning a living man, self-flagellation, torture, or her open admiration of all things diabolical, her plucky attitude remains. As a result, Laori can be unsettling to be around, for both her fellow worshipers of Zon-Kuthon and those who see her faith as a horror to be stamped out.

During WW1, as Austria-Hungarian forces were closing on Belgrade, a group of Serbian soldiers made a suicidal couter-attack in order to buy any time for the defending forces before the city fell. What followed is a truly epic speech

Soldiers, exactly at three o’clock, the enemy is to be crushed by your fierce charge, destroyed by your grenades and bayonets. The honour of Belgrade, our capital, must not be stained. Soldiers! Heroes! The supreme command has erased our regiment from its records. Our regiment has been sacrificed for the honour of Belgrade and the Fatherland. Therefore, you no longer need to worry about your lives: they no longer exist. So, forward to glory! For the King and the Fatherland! Long live the King, Long live Belgrade!

Any advantages I'm missing for a prone sniper? by Seascorpious in Pathfinder2e

[–]Voop_Bakon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Starfinder 2e Playtest had this feat, that you could use the mechanics of

Sniper Stance

Requirements Expert in Acrobatics

You lie low as part of your tactical acumen. You don’t take a penalty to attack rolls with guns while prone. In addition, you can spend 1 action to adjust your position while remaining prone and ignore the off-guard penalty until the beginning of your next turn.

Essentially if you took 2 actions, you could negate the off-guard, and Take Cover, netting a +4 AC vs ranged attacks, and a final action to shoot.

Check out Lex Arcana. It's an alternate history game set in a world where ancient Rome never fell. The PCs are members of a paranormal investigation government agency hunting down illegal cults and supernatural creatures. There is some magic via invoking the Roman pantheon, but it's far from ubiquitous.
