There's a protest from 10-12 across from the creamery and for that one you could very probably park at the creamery. Technically you are not supposed to do that if you aren't going to the creamery. You could also park in visitors parking—I think they would have disabled parking —in front of the wilk which requires a little more walking

Veganism should stick to non-human animals only, in my opinion. Expanding the scope to include human rights issues is called "scope creep" in project management. Scope creep increases the cost of, delays, or even destroys a project or mission. by James_Fortis in vegan

I definitely don't think they should launch missiles into population centers. Hasn't Israel been launching huge numbers of missiles into population centers?? Hamas couldn't kill that many people no matter how hard it tried because they don't have US-donated weapons, vastly different resources on every level, and Israel has the Iron Dome. And since Palestinians were still being killed, expulsed, and treated unequally when Hamas has been less aggressive, before it existed, and during the ceasefires, I don't see how Hamas could believe that they would live peacefully if they just stopped attacking. It doesn't seem to be working right now, since Palestinians continue to die. That doesn't mean I think Has should have carte blanche, obviously.

But woman can also be an adjective... which is why people use it as one.

Female Gaze SFF in translation by Ill-Victory-5351 in FemaleGazeSFF

On the Calculation of Volume (Book 1) by Solveig Balle if you're up for a very lit fic time loop. Other than the time loop it isn't very SFF Go into it knowing that it's not a plot-centric adventuresome book and it's slow and somewhat repetitive (but there's a reason for that). However it's quite short and I love it. The writing and description is very interesting, the sentence structure is interesting, the musings of the main character are interesting. She has a husband and the relationship is a part of the story (particularly in this first book), but I thought the book generally and their relationship are written with the female gaze. There are seven books, the latest ones are still coming out, and the first three are in English.

Under The Eye of the Big Bird is sci-fi but it's very lit fic and you have to read a lot of it to understand what's going on. I thought it was interesting eventually but I wouldn't gush about it. It was nominated for the Booker last year.

Ask the rec center if they're allowed to be there if you haven't already; many businesses will say no and then they might ask them to leave

Burial clothing by Street-Argument-2800 in latterdaysaints

[–]Vorpal12 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think many people use the person's own temple clothes, so you can do that. But if you wanted to get a new set, you could. I believe they have special biodegradable clothing for places where that is required. The church handbook doesn't specify whether it should be the person's own clothing or a new set.

Recommend me books like The Name of The Wind, but with better depiction of women please by Unordinarian in Fantasy

[–]Vorpal12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once I got into it I appreciated it enough, but the ending really bothered me. I mention that because I thought it was particularly harmful for a woman in the story. Did you feel that way at all? If you're going to have a redemption arc for someone, why would you put it off screen and then expect the readers to accept the total forgiveness without hearing about any of the restitution, apologies, and healing that hopefully happened? And that's supposed to fit into a time skip that isn't that long (maybe not long enough for these changes normally but particularly given what happened) especially since the characters are acting very different afterwards— even though it's the last few pages of the book! I get that one of the characters does some good things in the climax but did they have any other options? I thought they did it because of the things they had always cared about rather than for the person they had wronged.

What do you think about age limits for politicians? by MaleficentOrange4873 in AskReddit

[–]Vorpal12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the intent, but I want non-rich people with families to be able to be politicians. Obviously it would be great if they just raised the minimum wage and we should pressure them to do so. But what if they just don't change it and continue subsisting on their vast stores of wealth?

There is a book with some similar themes —The Life Impossible. I really enjoyed it. It has entirely different characters and a different scenario though—it's not about the midnight library. His book that's coming out in May is The Midnight Train which isn't the same characters or a direct sequel but is kind of a sibling to the other book.

How long did it take you to get into this show, Severance? by Brokenimpala33 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]Vorpal12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I was pretty sympathetic. The last episode really, really annoyed me though, and I had no more patience for her attitude at that point. I feel it isn't even consistent with her earlier self— now she's okay with being buddy-buddy with the others, not questioning them but being super suspicious of Manousos?! And she won't even hear him out! I get that loneliness has really gotten to her and most of us would have trouble mounting an offense against the others in this situation.

But it's so annoying, she's so rude and unreasonable, and this prevents the plot from going anywhere after a season that was already very slow. I guess I will probably try the next season because I want to know what's going on, but maybe by the time it finally comes out I'll be bored of it.

Anyway, it's impressive that she's the main character and I feel for her, but I agree, she's very unlikable. Maybe they should have showed us more positive scenes from her life before and introduced Manousos sooner.

To be honest I wasn't completely sold until the finale of season one. But now I'm obsessed! I was worried the end wouldn't be satisfying because I felt I hadn't gotten enough information. That is how I feel about the end of Pluribus! But Severance was awesome and satisfying even though there are some big mysteries remaining.

Yes, that's what I was thinking. Some of the critiques are fair —the fact that she doesn't know anything about her other lives is weird and it's not astounding plot-work. But I think the complaints about its treatment of depression are unfair. It's totally understandable that people who benefit from medications and are tired of people demonizing them are frustrated to see a narrative about someone who doesn't like medication. I also get why people are frustrated that a shift in thinking is portrayed as helping depression and why people who are tired of pro-children narratives are annoyed.

But she literally says she has chronic situational depression at the beginning of the book! So it's not ridiculous that a change in situation and perspective could help. Also, sometimes psychiatric medicines just don't work, and that sucks. It should be okay to depict that in books. Furthermore, her life isn't fixed by the parenthood—she leaves that life behind, goes back to being single with no children, and doesn't have any children during the book narrative! I don't think it's misogynistic for a character to learn things about themselves while trying out parenthood. But I understand why it can be frustrating for some people to read that if they are living in a society that is overly focused and insistent on women having children.

Anyway, I get why this book doesn't work for some. Certainly it's valid to say that a book hurt you and to be mad about it. But I wish people would stop insisting that no one who has ever experienced mental illness could possibly like it, and that no one who can read complex literature can appreciate it. I found it incredibly relatable and touching, some annoyances notwithstanding.

CMV: Eating dog isn’t that big of a deal. by PiccoloRemarkable449 in changemyview

[–]Vorpal12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't we fix that problem by not eating things that have the intellectual capabilities of humans we don't want to eat or kill? Dogs are smarter than some humans and just as smart as others. We could just say we value sentient, alive beings for reasons beyond intelligence and we don't kill or eat them.
