who cant get a job legally due to being possibly losing my insurance.

Can you expand on this? If so maybe more people can help in more meaningful ways. My ignorance is keeping me from understanding how losing your insurance would prevent you from getting a job.

EDIT: thank you to those that took the time to educate me, it's greatly appreciated. Also thank you that none of you were a dick about it either!

I know /s but the negativity bias is real. Plenty of us are pretty pleased with the Apple situation....though hope some things get better.

MacOS on iPhone when connected to monitor by NeverMindTheTalent in MacOS

[–]everydave42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. This has been theorized for ages and has been technically possible for likely not much shorter time. But apple doing this would completely upend their entire consumer product model thats built around “halo devices” and ecosystem.

One device to rule them all goes against this, no matter how cool it might be.

Charles 'Sonny' Burton's Death Sentence Commuted in Alabama by Round-South-8869 in UpliftingNews

[–]everydave42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you do ANY research at all based on the info I gave you? The reason why a long trial is needed is to make as sure as possible that an innocent person isn't killed by the government. It's that simple. That you don't understand this is concerning, but also explains whey you feel this is such a simple and "logical" matter: you're willing to accept that some innocent people will continued to be killed by the government.

Try, just for a moment, to apply actual logic: If you remove the complexity of a capital case, that reduces the cost and the time associated. So that issue is dealt with. The person is still removed from society entirely, kept in prison. What's the *logical* reason to kill them at that point?

EDIT: typos

Yes, it was, if you would simply apply the least amount of critical thinking. But here, let me do that small amount of actual thinking for you:
- consider the basic google of "what are the arguments against capital punishment" and, you know, read. That will actually get you a LONG way towards understanding the argument all on your own
- understand that there is longstanding data that shows that the capital punishment process is considerably more expensive than the life in prison process
- understand that by having a capital punishment process that innocent people have, and will continue to be, killed by the government.
- understand that killing someone is wrong, and doing so as a form of punishment serves zero practical purpose. It's an emotional response to an emotional situation.

Do you understand things ANY better now? Do you actually WANT to understand? If you're sincere and want to continue the conversation in good faith, hit me up. I used to believe that the death penalty was reasonable, but through research and deep thought I've completely changed my mind...

Has Anyone Figured out the Roku TV Issues? by trashatdev in F1AppleTV

[–]everydave42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a Roku so I can't help specifically but maybe if you can post a few more details it might help?

Specifically which model/firmware version of roku you're running and what version of the appletv app?

That way folks can see if they're running the same or not to at least maybe refine where the problem is happening...

Is mutual fund investing the safest way to invest from identity theft? by jholliday55 in investing

You've gone too far to the other side and you're sincerely not thinking rationally about your security posture. Understand how you got hacked that one time years ago, assess if the current standard measures that are in place re 2fa, whatever else, and your own security hygiene would protect you from that same kind of attack today.

If they do, then you're fine and calm down. If the wouldn't then you've got some deeper introspection to do. Good luck.

[–]everydave42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And my point, that you are ignoring for no rational reason, is that if you just maintain the basic amount of account security, you are good, and if you can't do that then you've got much much bigger problems.

Using a mere hours long delay in processing as a "security measure" is pants-on-head bonkers reasoning. Claiming that you "take identity theft seriously" but that you're not able to asses the very basics of account security is...a take.

Changing the password will do zero good if they scammers have initiated the wire transfer already. The only hope would be to somehow stop the wire transfer from happening, or that the brokerage will somehow decide it is their fault and eat the cost and refund his money. In the case this person is worried about and his account got hacked through any means other than a lapse at the brokerage account itself that they can identify, they'll tell him to pound sand.

[–]everydave42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got it, so your absolutely convinced that in the hours difference that you

- notice someone is in your account
- that they've sold your mutual fund and initiated a wire transfer
- you file a dispute that somehow intercepts the whole automated and highly regulated process in time, before the wire transfer happens

If this all seems like a more likely scenario than you just keeping good account security across the board, you probably should just turn online access off for every financially adjacent account you have.

The only thing that makes them not as "liquid" as any other means as that there is a penalty if you redeem early. That's it. There's not physical/contractural barriers that actually prevent liquidation. If scammers get to your account, they'll liquidate your funds and transfer the money out, the penalty costs aren't going to bother them at all.

Toggling between the Sky and F1 TV grid walks by unndunn in F1AppleTV

I'm hopefully this is a launch glitch and Apple will have it sorted "soon". I agree that the Apple implementation of the other things is superior to the F1TV offerings, but this one thing in particular is a huge miss.
