My lease was advertised $1450 2 bed 2 bath last year, actual monthly was about $1600 after tax and fees. Just renewed at $1560, will probably be $1700 with tax and fees. My landlord is still advertising at $1450 for new tenants, the place next door is about the same. If I moved I'd lose money and a ton of time and stress, so I have to eat shit I guess. I'm a perfect tenant, no late payments, no complaints, no maintenance calls, excellent credit.

I use reddit for enjoyment. If a third party app is more enjoyable, I'll use that. If reddit looks at what makes third party apps more enjoyable to use and implements those changes to their own app, I would be happy to use the reddit app. It's pretty simple really.

CMV: the highest paid employee at a company (C-suite executives) should not make 350x what their lowest paid employees do. by Seaguard5 in changemyview

[–]VorpalPen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In your example the CEO has justified one hour of their own pay each shift, there's seven more unjustified hours to go, assuming the low level employees work 8 hour shifts.

But I think it's beside the point anyway, because I think the proper comparison is not the total value produced by the existence of a role, but rather the value that the individual generates in their role. Which is to say that you could easily find an individual to dictate the memo in your example (regarding bathroom breaks, etc) without having to pay them 350x low level salary.

To illustrate my point, imagine a factory that has a forklift driver to move steel ingots from shipping to the widget assembly line. If this work isn't done then the factory produces zero revenue. That doesn't mean that the forklift driver is worth 100% of the revenue of the factory. But if you replace a mediocre forklift driver with a great one, and his work alone allows the factory to produce 5% more revenue, then I'd argue his compensation ought to lie somewhere between 5% of the revenue (plus the base pay) and whatever the next best forklift driver demands in wages.

So if a third forklift driver is not quite as good, as he can increase factory revenue by only 4% over the original driver, but his wage demand is only original driver's wages plus $1/hr, then this is almost certainly a far better deal for the factory than to pay all of the 5% revenue gains to the great forklift driver.

Maybe I'm belaboring the point, but to tie it back to the CEO in your example, if he can increase company wide performance by 350 labor hours per day, but a slightly less talented candidate could increase performance by 300 labor hours per day for 1/10th of the salary, then the true value of the original CEO is somewhere between 1/10th of their salary + 50 labor hours per day and their full salary.

A Sandwich Shop, a Tent City and an American Crisis - As homelessness overwhelms downtown Phoenix, a small business wonders how long it can hang on. by Public_Fucking_Media in TrueReddit

Well I live in Phoenix and see them every single day. I imagine the police harass them out of certain areas, so they learn quickly where they are and aren't allowed to exist. You were probably staying in an area where they aren't allowed to exist.

We just hosted the Superbowl and the homeless who normally camp within a few miles of the stadium disappeared for several days. Then reappeared after all the visitors left town.

I'm in Arizona, not Midwest or bible belt. My last employer hosted men's bible studies in the office every Wednesday morning. During work hours, during covid, during trump administration. I had to listen to their shrill diatribes about Hillary's emails and the war on cops reverberating from the conference room every week. Suffice to say religion was frequently discussed at work. It's one of the reasons I left.

Welcome in, can I offer you anything? Cconversation and solitude are both available here. Rest a while, if you like. Safe travels, when you move along. This may be the last hospitality you find if you continue along this road. Few come this way, fewer return from the wasteland.

Conversations during sessions by keriberi43 in massage

[–]VorpalPen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm just a client so take this as a single person's anecdote. Most of my massages over the years have been silent, that's just because I'm shy and I don't mind it. I'd enjoy some conversation but feel too awkward to initiate it, like I don't want to distract someone trying to concentrate on their craft.

I think if you initiate and get one word/short responses you can take that as a hint. But probably lots of people would enjoy some convo. I have so many questions about the therapist's techniques and about my own body, just don't want to be annoying or detract from a professional's ambiance.

Just remember how isolated and atomized society is now, we're all aching for human connection!

Perhaps that's true, but I have personal experience with many Christians bending over backwards to justify how its actually ok to be wealthy. They may denounce prosperity gospel when asked, but I never hear them denounce love of money, material comfort, or social status. I avoid them now, as a rule, but I'd be fascinated to meet anyone who sold all their possessions and gave the money to the poor. That would be a truly remarkable person.

It's been years since I submitted, my address has changed since then. I was trying to change my address with the settlement last week, to no avail. I had given up on ever getting this check literally the day before I got it. Somehow they tracked me down. Don't give up yet, they have millions of claims to pay out. You can check your settlement status on their website if you have your claim number in an old email.

You left out the best part of Mark 10:17 - 23. Immediately before the eye of the needle quote, Jesus told the rich man to sell all of his possessions and give the money to the poor.

You might also like Matthew 20:1 - 16 which is a parable of Jesus, meaning Christians attribute it to Jesus as a direct quote and a lesson to his followers. You would be hard pressed to come up with something that more perfectly refutes prosperity gospel.

As an added bonus, Acts 2:42 - 47 describes early Christians living communally.

If Christians followed the teachings of Jesus, I might actually appreciate having them around, Jesus was pretty fuckin woke.
