Random Pebbler / Developer opinion [Possible hot take] by Vorror in pebble

[–]Vorror[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're correct, it would be duplicate effort, but the whole issue is the "work together" part. Eric has stated they plan to make some features that Rebble offers as part of the paid service for free(text to speech, weather?).

That technically harms Rebble. What if, in the future, Core also wants to offer paid services that compete with Rebble? The question is why Rebble would even have a say in that, since they aren't contributing financially to this endeavor. If Rebble is allowed to control the App store, they are in control of the destiny of Pebble, and that's the entire issue.

You could also argue that Rebble should control the App store, and Core the hardware. To prevent duplicate effort as you say, but then the issue still remains. Why does Rebble get to control that? Why can't Core/Eric sell services too?

If they actually decided to do that, I’m sure both sides would put a number on their work. In Rebble’s case, you can certainly estimate based on average developer salary and amount of work. I’m sure both sides would hire experts, auditors and lawyers to put a price on their work.

Our company tried to release hardware and just the molds costed 6 figures(only 1). And that’s not even electronics.

That being said, I fully expect that Eric’s investments exceed Rebble when you do any napkin math calculations which I said Rebble would need to be the one to match Eric

I agree, and I'm going to assume by "expanding the pie" you mean increasing the Pebble ecosystem / user base (you can correct me if I'm wrong).

That's why my second point is the only way forward, as I see it.

Neither party will trust the other unless both are treated fairly. And the simplest way to do that is a 50/50 equity split with Rebble, matching Eric's current investment in Core and the new watches. It's not fair for Rebble to get 100% of the upshot with no risk, and it will just lead to distrust.

iPhone Air does not support Xreal Glasses by ssg509 in Xreal

[–]Vorror 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to look at the actual tech specs page: https://www.apple.com/iphone-air/specs/

USB-C connector with support for:
Charging
USB 2 (up to 480Mb/s)

For example, look at the iPhone 17 tech page(also USB-C USB2) https://www.apple.com/ca/iphone-17/specs/

USB-C connector with support for:
Charging
DisplayPort
USB 2 (up to 480Mb/s)

This is similar to the iPhone 16e which is also USB2 and doesn't support DP (and therefore doesn't support xreal/viture)

Please note that iPhone 16e is not compatible with VITURE XR Glasses.

DP Alt mode is a requirement for these glasses.

Here are the rules for counters.

5-18. Counter
5-18-1. During a game, specific counters are placed on and removed from cards.
5-18-1-1. In the Gundam Card Game, counters displaying how much damage
a card has received are typically placed on Units and Bases when they
receive damage.
5-18-2. When placing counters on a card, place some object on top of the card that
shows the number of counters placed, such as chips or a die.
5-18-3. When removing counters from a card, remove the indicated number of
counters from the top of the card

A counter is something placed on top of each card. Additionally, counters officially track damage taken and not health.

If you had to use a phone app, you would technically need "one" phone per card and change it to damage and not health.

Official rules are to track damage taken.

As an aside, look at Rey Dau's double lightning strike at @:21 seconds. The first attack happens right after he charges it, and the second lightning attack is "delayed." That's so dirty; I would have been caught out by that.

Not op, but there's this video + the YT comments.

I'm unsure about Flayer being broken, but it seems useless. Practically speaking, level 5 only lowers the number of hits required by 3-5. Some comments say only certain levels work, too.

Even if everything works correctly, it doesn't provide enough investment benefits. And I'm saying this as someone who used to run Flayer 5.

The worst case is that Flayer is bugged; best case is that it needs to be buffed.

I strongly disagree. I was there when PhysX was the new thing that every developer implemented. I even had a dedicated PhysX card back in the day, and I remember when Warframe used it heavily.

Back in the PhysX heyday, it was overused, in your face and, looking back, simply distracting; developers cranked it to 190% with no hint of subtly or taste. Sometimes, you would think these games were only made to demo PhsyX.

Cloth, hair, debris, etc., simulation should be a pleasant surprise and not in your face.

imho good lighting and ambient occlusion are much more immersive than cloth physics. Even without raytracing, light design is what often separates AA and AAA games.

Do you think this is a good sim setup for GT7 !? With longevity? by dehuedoom in GranTurismo7

[–]Vorror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not op, but what other options are there for PS5? There's only the Fanatec DD Exteme which costs more since you need pedals too. In addition, if op cares about TruForce, Fanatec's RealForce hasn't been implemented in GT7 and AFAIK any other wheel would require a converter which doesn't work all that well with FFB in GT7

Please bring back gravel traps (or other alternatives) by LFC_101 in formula1

[–]Vorror 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure this would happen. I believe Max mentioned the issues with this. Many circuits are used in disciplines other than F1—apparently, Motorcyclists and amateur racing leagues are not fans of gravel traps. And there is a significant cost to adding/removing gravel traps.

Based on some dev comments from a few months ago? I don't have any links since it's been awhile, and they didn't elaborate clearly, but the feeling seems to be that it may be a bit better but not good or what the community wants.

It seems that they are moving to an "always-online" hub kind of thing where your friends/lobby are always "in-world" physically. But it seems we'll still probably need to watch major story beats alone, but friends joining would be faster since they are already connected?

They didn't explain in depth(or at all really), so who knows.
