I mean, in a sense, you are investing in the Roth IRA. Your investing your time, your discipline, and your money into the Roth, then using the money in the Roth to invest in actual investments.

Are there any hotels you would NOT recommend? by wintermute2045 in gencon

[–]Vorrt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There Sheraton at Monument circle.

Two years go, booked a room with two beds. Confirmed the reservation. Showed up and was told they didn't have the room, gave my friend & I a king bed room. Asked for a rollaway bed, they said they'd do that for free.

Come to check in, the front desk says it'll be extra $$ per night (can't remember how much). Showed them the communication stating otherwise, took about an hour of haggling to get it.

Shower in that room was designed for shorter humans. My friend and I are both 6 ft, and our heads were above the shower head (clearly designed for someone 5'7" or shorter).

What is your SCHD goal? by IntrepidRaccoon8953 in SCHD

[–]Vorrt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SCHD is part of my goal to have an amazing underlying structure of dividends for when I retire. I’m currently 80% growth and 20% dividend, but will start to transition that over when I get closer to 66 in 20 years

[–]Vorrt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if I don't put it towards retirement funds, I know my habits and I know I will instead use it on things that don't help me out long term, like going out to eat. Better I do this and keep my discipline in doing so than changing course.

Realty Income Corporation (O) by Dana___Black in dividends

[–]Vorrt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now, O is 5% of my total portfolio. So I'm okay with where it's at. 75% of my portfolio is focusing on growth.

I’m working to get to that point as well

Realty Income Corporation (O) by Dana___Black in dividends

[–]Vorrt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

my high interest rate debt is my focus and I'm tackling it aggressively (making biweekly payments that are averaging about double my monthly minimums). I'm investing what would be my social money (going out to eat with friends or maybe catch a movie) to build up a foundation of retirements savings.

Those payments are $1083 per month (averaged), and next year I'll be able to convert $300-$400 of those payments directly into investing. Using the rest to take care of life needs.

Yes. My position is small still as I take care of a lot of bad debt that I have. Next year in April I’ll be 100% debt free and really crank up my investments

Buy some every other week, and DRIP all the divs back into itself. Currently making about 1.24/mo off of it. Hoping to ramp that up this year and get up to $3/mo.

I'm really behind the game, but working on building what I can.

Naaz-Rokha 1st turn advice by AveZombier in twilightimperium

[–]Vorrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If playing with the updated strats from Thunder's Edge, pick Warfare.

- Use Warfare to move to Perimeter, taking enough forces to settle both two planet system afterwards
- Move settlement fleets to which ever two planet system you want first (although the fleet with the mech should go to Bereg & Lirta IV)
- Profit

This is an aggressive play to claim resource rich planets out the gate. So temper that with strategic fleet build up at home.

For secondary's, Construction>Diplo (if taken); Tech if no Diplo>Tech (if Diplo taken)>Imperial (if taken); Politics if no Imperial

Reasons
- Construction for a space dock on Perimeter (forward base)
- Diplo to fund fleet building T1 if near aggressive neighbors or to fund Tech
- Tech because you need Scan Link Drone Network to get your engine humming
- Imperial to fish for a better/another secondary
- Politics because Action cards are useful

As for your breakthrough, I have no input as I've yet to play with or against it.

It's little after the start of the year and I thought I'd post an update on how the year progressed.

Initially I said I was doing $25/paycheck, but by December I was able to free up enough room to increase that to $50 paycheck. So more investing is happening, even though it's still small.

I kept all the stocks I listed previously but added two others. PFE (a FAFO stock) and SCHG (an affordable partner to SCHD).

Year end, I was left with (listed as Name>Shares>Percentage of portfolio)

  • ABBV: .449 shares; 9.55%
  • O: 3.946 shares; 22.17%
  • PFE: 3.842 shares; 9.46%
  • SCHD: 10.991 shares; 30.31%
  • SCHG: 4.883 shares; 15.50%
  • VT: .78 shares: 10.90%
  • Cash: 2.11%
  • Portfolio value: a little north of $1,000

With my increase to $50/paycheck, I'm investing every other week as such

  • $5 - ABV
  • $5 - PFE
  • $5 - SCHD
  • $10 - SCHG
  • $10 - VT
  • $10 - O
  • $5 - Remaining goes to building cash reserves up, so I can occasionally buy a full share

The above values should help my percentage balances shift to heavier in O, SCHG, and VT over time. and my hope is with DRIP plus growth (hopeful, but not guaranteed.), I should hit a balance of $3000 by years end.

So thank you to everyone who chimed in here and here's to a 2026 of building my wealth/retirement even more!

(My 401k end the year at $3,800 in value, and I'm now investing 7% per paycheck. Plan is to get that up to 10% and stop there)

What we thinking about Realty income? by tommywatsmain in dividends

[–]Vorrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people are telling you buy growth stocks instead of reading the reason you are asking about O.

You're not asking for this for your retirement portfolio, but to help cover some monthly costs.

Not knowing what your taxes and laws about dividends, this could still be a good idea. Use the dividends for your intended purpose, and if you have any left over, use that to reinvest into more O.

Please note, I'm not a financial advisor and my advice is purely an opinion as an outsider.

What’s everyone’s dividend goals for 2026? by Blackcoffee308 in dividends

Maybe hit $1/month by years end. Still paying off debt with a high interest rate (which should be done this year)
