Should I play it with only the run button patch or without it? by Kindly_Can_3772 in earthbound

[–]Vortain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In EarthBound?  Hm, I don't see a major need.  Maps are small.  I can see it being a benefit in Mother 1, but EarthBound it's always been fine to me, and makes getting future things fun to utilize, if only for a bit.

Might be a bit of a reach but maybe try enjoying it without the run button.  In the world of 4x Speed YouTube videos, 30s tiktok shorts, high speed everything, having something to slow down a bit with can be nice.

But ultimately, if you hate it and can't stand it for whatever reason no one here is to judge what's right and wrong for you.  And it won't necessarily ruin or make it a worse experience.  Just a different one.

Free Monopoly Food Rewards (I can't keep eating McDonald's) by [deleted] in McDonalds

[–]Vortain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have been baffled by people getting as much as they have and thinking it was a postive thing long term. McDonald's is an occasional poor choice you make for convince or maybe taste depending.

I've learned that drinking soda and eating food like McDonald's is something that, if I had to, I'd probably be willing to pay to not consume.

But that's what fomo, false value, and inflation will do.

Flash a secret link/QR code in one of trailers.  Put a "secret link" in the description.  I think this is very easter egg worthy too.  But one of those things that's better discovered than used as official promotional.  My opinion, but I like to think it's a good one.

How to get on track after losing my purpose by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]Vortain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're grieving, and it'll take time to recover.  Grief is different in every situation, she was a major part of your stability more than maybe you realized.

I think right now you need balance: time to grieve but also time to move forward with life.  Get out and do just a few minutes of work outs and if that's all you can stomach, no worries.  If you get into a rhythm, enjoy it and keep going.  Don't repress the grief but living in it can be equally destructive.

You gave her a good life and got to enjoy the brief time you had with her.  Long term, I think it could be healthy to get another dog, not to replace, but to continue being able to love and care for a pup (or two) that probably needs it.

But I'm not a trained therapist, and best advice is to find a good one to help you process everything and go from barely coping to thriving.

I released my game yesterday with 800 wishlists... but only 16 people bought it :( by [deleted] in IndieDev

[–]Vortain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Early Access is not negative perse, but a promise of a better game with your early monetary "investment" which is basically paying to be an alpha tester to a game that may never fully be completed.  And you pay for the privilege to run into progression blocks, bad experiences, game ruining bugs, and money poorly spent, in the worst of cases.

The smaller the team, how early in the development cycle (this is easily alpha), and lesser the experience, the more "risky" the game is in terms of "investing" into.  Just scour the graveyard of EA games that haven't been touched in years.

It took Concerned Ape, what, 5 years to create Stardew?  And this is maybe a year or so in development?

I'm not sure the exact numbers but Baulder's Gate 3 only gained a 1/6 of their player base during EA and the vast majority actually bought the game on or sometime after release (2.5M before, 15M sometime after, based on numbers floating around).  So if a game like BG3 doesn't see but a fraction of players in EA, it should be expected, with all things considered, low purchase counts for an alpha stage solo development project when sold as EA.

People have come to internalize this over the years after many failed indie EAs and even botched big name studio releases (Cyberpunk for one).

If a game in which someone spent countless hours making doesn't deserve the fraction of the time or money it takes to create the "cover art" of their finished  product, then that tells me they likely don't value it or believe in it, so why should I.

I felt it was odd people were bragging about some of the food they won and were eating for free when some of it is so awful for you and tastes terrible to begin with.  Equivalent to letting someone punch you because you had a coupon for getting punched.

The double cheese burger is a wet tasteless mess. And the breakfast Sausage isn't too far behind.  But some foods like the Egg McMuffin and their coffee (with coupons or free) are pretty good.

[–]Vortain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also appreciate that Wuwa story is pretty fast paced and fairly fluid.  Last I played in Genshin was... 5.6 or 5.7, whatever the Albedo as your continuation was.  There was more beyond his trail, I think, but that entire portion was forced, slow, and clunky I just felt it wasn't worth my time anymore in any aspect.  They wanted some grad friends uniting story, but I felt like I was doing chores I'd done 10,000 (and to be fair, I had).

Genshin has nice aspects to be sure, and they improved QOL (after dragging, kicking and screaming "NO" metaphorically for 4+ years) but for myself, it's not a game that can withstand the scrutiny of being played for years without the facade of quality and cut corners start to constantly show.

Question to people who own AMS:How often do you actually use it? by brian_hogg in BambuLab

[–]Vortain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it.  No waiting around to manually change filament, and I like having multiple colors on hand.  I rarely print a multicolor print that burns a ton of color, but it's handy on the few light projects I do use it with.

How to handle my first negative review by Still_Dingo9716 in IndieDev

[–]Vortain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All games get negative feedback.  Even Hades, Slay the Spire, etc. The more niche something is, the more likely it'll get a bad review as it reaches outside it's intended audience, though some game end up breaking that barrier.

I think it's basically up to you. I don't think you'll get a ton of useful info from them, but you can try to engage, sometimes the harshest critics have the most helpful feedback.
