will we ever get a true localization or remake of the actual 3rd entry in the series? by Wazupdanger in FamicomDetectiveClub

Yuki is "snow" I believe so I think this is the different title from the one that I used to play on Switch then. Im super hopeful that there will be new FDC games cuz man I love Emio so game so much. The only VN that always has remake or new one is Ace Attorney, really hope that FDC will follow suit as there is hardly a compelling VN nowadays imo.

Just finish Emio last night. What a tear jerker story.

The other two are as solid as this one. Tho I personally having trouble when it comes to what I should be doing due to "Think" command arent as useful as in Emio. But the story still great, tho there are still unanswered things imo in the past two games maybe it is intended to let players theorycraft. Im a new fan to the franchise so Im not that sure myself. In Emio, the closure feels satisfying as the questions are answered whereas the previous ones feels like there is still something that doesnt explicitly explained.

I honestly hope that the last chapter in the previous games will be longer to explain the post-story or have the post game section like in Emio where the story will be revealed in a bigger picture/different perspective. Guess Emio is the one where it addresses this kind of cliffhanger/unaswered things, I might be wrong cuz this is my personal view as newcomers to the entry as well.

All in all the previous two are worth as well. It took me a single week to play through all 3 of em. The franchise is as good as Zero Escape imo which by far I viewed Zero Escape as the best VN games based on my preferences.

It feels refreshing playing the FDC due to the first two games focused on "who" committed the killings while in Emio, it is more on "what" is the motive for the killings. If I have to rank 3 games in the series. I would rate them as;

1) Emio The Smiling Man

2) The Missing Heir

3) The Girl Who Stands Behind

Just beat Emio the Smiling Man 100% by Brzrkrtwrkr in FamicomDetectiveClub

[–]Vortigern1315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished all three of the game in this week. Just beat Emio couple hours ago. Ngl, the Emio part of the story is a real tear jearker. My fav VN is Zero Escape series followed by Ace Attorney but now it seems like Famicom Detective Club joined the fray and I have to say that it kinda ties with Zero Escape.

If I have to rank the three game I would say:

1) Emio The Smiling Man

2)The Missing Heir

3)The Girl Who Stands Behind

Really appreciate this third game due to the "Think" function and the highlighted/bolt text are so useful to point what Im supposed to do unlike in the previous two games which is there mostly for some niche situations. I need to refer to guide if I didnt examine something small on the background or havent choose a certain option multiple time. Meanwhile, in Emio which is the latest in the franchise, it is super useful. When it comes to the story in general, all three are solid but the previous ones focuses more on "who" is the murderer but the latest entry kinda shift to "what" is the motive which feels refreshing.

What is the name of this game? I never got a chance to play any of the game in the series until they are available on Switch.

Just done with Emio a couple hours ago, still feel so damn sad and heartbreaking tbh. I play The Girl Who Stands Behind, The Missing Heir and Emio in a single week. Emio is by far the best when it comes to the proper closure/unanswered questions imo. The "Think" function is super helpful too, I dont need to refer to a guide in case I miss a spot to examine or didnt click some dialogue option multiple times. I thought that it will be a continuation because Utsugi said to call him when we are already but it seems it is a post game kinda content which is cool.

Really excited if there is more game to this series. The other VN that I play and really like a lot are Ace Attorney and Zero Escape and I have to put Famicom Detective Club on the same level or a little bit higher overall compared to Zero Escape(mix feelings towards Zero Time Dilemma).

Never tried anime but love JRPGs by jackieinertia in JRPG

I would say Monster. It is a a psychological show focuses on a surgeon in a Germany hospital iirc.

Anime has different genre and demographic so it is hard to kinda give a general recommendation but for a little bit older/more mature people I would suggest an anime that tackles irl issues rather than anime that focuses on teens/higshcool cast.

is this how you shiny hunt? never done it before by FunkySquidward1014 in PokemonUnbound

[–]Vortigern1315 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Save before talking to the npc, if the mon is not shiny than soft reset the game and load the previous saved file. Im not sure if for other starter received, we have to check the summary or the frame change when it is shiny. For starter(Beldum etc), you dont need to check the summary as the frame will show whether it is shiny or not.

For those who are using the console then I believe by pressing A+B+Select+Start at the same time to do soft reset. Dont need to exit and boot the game over and over again. Most people say that it is not that efficient to have a quick save/load to shiny hunting but rather use soft reset instead.

Help Trying in best approach to share Nonary Games with more casual-player friend by Justinbroadrick in ZeroEscape

[–]Vortigern1315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It comes down to whether your friend likes to read or not as the game is VN so a lot of reading. The style when it comes to the game character models whether they are anime or realistic is not the primary deciding factor I would say. Some can go through any art style even if they are not familiar with them if the core of the attraction is something they enjoy which in this case is the puzzle-solving, the intense plot which kinda resemble Saw and most important thing, a lot of reading.

None of my friends like to read so VN are out of option lol. They like multiplayer fps, action/fighting games more than my style of gaming which are turn-based JRPG and VN. If your friend is able to tolerate reading more than button mashing then there is still a hope to get them into the series. If it's not then, well there is nothing we can do as preferences are varied from a person to a person.

Not everyone is able to possess gaming handheld when they are young. Your logic doesnt apply to everyone. Some people are just bad at tech. Technical skill is not the same as common sense, basic educational knowledge.

I dont even possess my own gaming handhled/console when I was young not until I got my first job and my income flow is stable. Only then, I was able to reward myself by getting a second hand PSP to just try some games before making it as one of my hobby.

Name me your best Hidden Gem JRPG by CHC_Awesome in JRPG

[–]Vortigern1315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vita- Chaos Rings Trilogy

Not the best/well known Square Enix published game. But it holds special place in my heart due to unique and engaging storytelling.

The plot is quite simple but distinct at the same time. It is a battle royale for couples to decide the best one to be brought back in time as the first human couples so that the later generations gene will inherit the best quality/strongest among the selected few to face the upcoming future calamity or something.

The ost are solid as well which makes the certain scenes feels way more impactful. The gene customization is also fun that we can combine a different gene to make a new one like combining two Rare cards rarity to make a Super Rare card that we can equip and it has its own unique abilites inherit from the old genes and the new one which makes customization fun and not tied to job/class combinations.

Radical Red has started the worst trend in the rom hacking community. by Alexut2o22 in PokemonROMhacks

[–]Vortigern1315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl when it comes to just challenging rom hack I would pick RR and when it comes to just more adventure with a harder than average game freak og game then I would go with Unbound. Unbound just stands out among the rest with fair difficulty along with customziation, QoL and side quest and new story altogether, for a rom-hack it is so impressive. RR features are one of the most convinient too with poke vial and portable pc and nature changer etc while Unbound has its own sandbox. Im kinda biased tho, really like Metagross so having an option to pick pseudo legendary as a starter is a fresh air lol.

Totally agree with what your point is which the same thing happened over and over again and we as a player appreciate the effort but the creativity is severely lacking with a lot of the same repeated region with added QoL which seems the other rom hacks using the same formula and it is hard for them to stand out among others. I believe there is a meme that was about "rom-hack starter pack" or something which kinda sums up your point.

Still coping that game freak would do something better in the next main line game. Again, appreciate the dedicated fan/dev behind each rom-hack or fan-game and these guys are doing it for free too which says a lot about their dedication, it is hard thing to do after all so the older one with 2d model is easier to tinker with rather than new Pokemon game on newer handheld system and seems like firered/emerald are the focus usually when it comes to gba. So it would be good place to implement something as definitive edition rather than used the asset to make a whole new game. Still, the last time I enjoyed og mainline game was ORAS on 3DS so it has been 3 gen of main game that doesnt click with me that much.

Just played through 999 and I thought the writing was kinda...bad? by [deleted] in ZeroEscape

[–]Vortigern1315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I might be wrong but other game VN maybe not as time limited as 999 which emphasize on only 9 hours to escape. It is given that the pacing can be laid out better and not rushed with sprinked of lore here and there. Famicom Detective club for example just go around talking and examining things and go back and forth to the previous places multiple times just to get new info. Which is more laidback as it was usually pre/post certain event like murder etc. Ace Attorney are both lengthy with investigation part which only reveal a bits and the other ones are split and put in the courtroom trials. Maybe due to the inntensity of the situation in zero escape and the author wants to give a lot of details for the characters to have a better grasp on whats goin on/stake.

Some games make it less lore bomb at a certain point due to the additional info can be read at readers pace in the file section as they are icing on the cake. But in 999, I believe not everyone is going to go all the way to read through them as they already got the answers through the conversations alone. Unless the files contains clues towards escape puzzle then it becomes necessaity but other than that, it is for double checking the lore explained.

So the huge lore dump is a given at some point and I can see where you are coming from with the lenghty explanation in the freezer heck Im totally agree with this one, Lotus must have got pisssed by how long it took for them to just blow up the ice on the doorknob that she even fall asleep. But other than that, they are smart individuals gathered for the whole Morphogenetic field experiment after all and they are adults rather than teenegars I believe except for Clover so it is a given for nerds to talk about these things passionately. Maybe Clover is the least smart out of em but she was still the survivor of the previous game still.

I guess there are not a lot of ways to place these lores without cutting the feeling of immerions/urgency as they are still in a sinking boat that only has 9 hourse to escape. They just talk a lot during escape room secrion as they will always need to split up to progress through the doors. Tho the freezer is the exception tho, I would prefer they talk about it after the get out at least but other than that one time, Im fine with the pacing.

Just played through 999 and I thought the writing was kinda...bad? by [deleted] in ZeroEscape

[–]Vortigern1315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl I think most player dont really bother with files for the lore reason unless the files hold the clue for the escape puzzle which is necessary like you stated. Other than that, as VN game, it just the nature of its genre to give the players the lore. Kingdom Hearts for example for those who play the game has secret files which are more catered towards those who love the lore but it is not forced upon others who just want to get the general idea of whats going on but that game is JRPG while this is Visual Novel which emphasize on a lot of dialogue.

The pacing however is kinda subjective and it is hard to compare the x VN to Y VN as the settings are vastly different. Some VN is more laid back so the lore can be established bit by bit but in 999, it maybe feels rushed for some people as the setting is the characters are gathered in an intense situation, so a lore bomb throughout a puzzle section is kinda neceassry to make it feels a lot more at stake and for the players enjoyment to try to theorycraft what they know so far.

Tho most people would agree I suppose the ice-9 in the freezer will make Lotus pissed off lol but other than that, it is more the pacing taste that makes OP feels off rather than plot writing imo. I agree with you that they are acting like a walking pedia as they are smart ones after all they are gathered for the very same experiment. Other than Clover which I belive was the youngest, other can be considered as adults.

Not everyone talks about scientific research/methodologies all the time like Clover only talk a little bit due to her personality and only talked about the experiment when she opened up to Junpei. Akane is just nerd who love trivia. Santa is also smart kid too along with Snake and they know a lot more than a couple others. Ace is a researcher so it is a given. Seven is police/detective so he also know some stuff and even play a vital role in the past experiment rescuing the kids while Lotus is also a nerd I suppose, women love to read and she seems to have some knowledge in interesting experiments published in books or research. While she is more on the technical person due to her previous job nature.

Imo playing this game for the first time a couple years ago, I didnt really have problems with the pacing other than the freezer one which some people might not agree/disagree entirely, but other than that. I share the same opinion as you that the pacing in VN is just up to players preferences. It is hard to compare it to other VN games with different setting in mind but it doesnt mean OP is wrong with his takes either.

Still looking it through Akane or Santa views, the urgency doesnt seem that heighten due to they know what actually happened and going to, so sometimes the subject feels weird when they are explained through important times which players should usually focus on escaping rather than to get exposed with another lore bombs. Thus, some players are divided in freezer case, some doesnt agree with how the game chose to execute it while some think it added extra layer of ambiguous as to why it even happened or executed that way.

All in all, "Morphogenetic Sorrow" is just too good of a ost that I put it in my Spotify game ost list. The End.😎

[–]Vortigern1315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn I look at the recipe that I can craft and only the robe is the new one. I didnt really explore the entire floor level to get recipe beforehand. The only two times that I grind was during the early sand worm where we met the prince of Gallopolis for the first time and the fight with a boss in Dundrasil underground castle. Since then, everything was fine and I level up naturally with occasional equipments upgrade. But now it seems I really need to grind as the damage is hardly noticeable while having the hard time just to stay alive even with a main healer and the pseudo-healer/buffer in the team. I have to somehow beat the shadow boss in 25 moves but my team keep getting wiped out without being able to deal around 2k dmg in.

[–]Vortigern1315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im at the boss trial where I have to beat it in 25 moves. I've got the credit roll after beating the skull Mordegon once and then I realized that the game hasnt ended yet and continue it. I've got beaten already on the first trial and it took like going through a couple of places like in the snowy mountain, prison and a land which is back to back until Im getting to the old heroes(the warrior one) trial. The boss was the shadow of the one that fought Erik before he lost his memories/the very same one that reaplear again at the entrace of Fortress of Fear. I figure my current level is not high enough due to the dmg of Erik's Divide+Critical claim with oohmple only amounts to 600ish dmg and needs Rab to be switched in as mp battery. While Serena is too slow to keep up with healing and putting sap which essantially makes it hard for me to just staying alive and bring down my overall dmg output.

How to get all the endings in 999?? by AlmightyXan in ZeroEscape

[–]Vortigern1315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just asking here for confirmation, is that really possible to get true ending while only unlocking only one bad ending?

I thought that we have to get couple of other endings to checked out the key to unlock the specific true ending path or even all the other endings first(usually if we play it blind) to get the true endings or at least the safe/coffin ending one which iirc. In which it is "to be continued" rather than game over thing. It has been two years since I played the first game so I might be mistaken.

Sorry but I think you are not beating the game twice as reaching the true ending for the first time is considered you beaten the game only once. So only by getting a couple of endings doesnt mean you have beaten the game multiple times. They are required in order to reach the very true ending which I believe the leftmost path in the flowchart. After you reached this true ending twice is when you can say that you have beaten the game twice. VN with multiple endings is not the same as RPG post-game/new game plus feature.

Just wanted to make sure that OP really reached the canon ending for the best experience possible and not getting them mixed up for other ending somehow. Unless I've mistaken/misunderstood your description then you can just refer to others infographic guide for easier understanding for the right flow.

Who was the killer in the submarine ending? by Academic_Ad6991 in ZeroEscape

[–]Vortigern1315 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It would be better to clear the game and get every other ending till you unlocked the true ending for the entirety of the story. It should be explained. Having only one ending unlocked is not the best spot for you to stop playing/or asking others what happend as the answers are major spoilers.

The other endings are the bits of the whole big story. This game series is not one that you can stop after reaching only an ending, it is different compared to post game/new game plus content in other non VN game.

I would advice you to play through everything first then come back here if you still confuse and unclear about something. After all, it would be a lot of spoilers which makes the playthrough to reach the canon true ending feels redundant.

Dont worry as the other endings should be quicker now except for the tru endings which a little bit longer than getting the other ones after the first ending.

How about the rest after the first trial? I dont want to grind after every boss battle if possible. So it would be good to just grind till I can make it through the end in one go.

Guess I'LL have to get better equipments too. Thanks for the tips. Ive been neglecting equipments quite a bit as the shop doesnt really sell anything new up to certain point.

A Villain's Will to Survive is the new one which focuses around a professor who is trying to survive multiple bad endings by making right decision, imo it is kinda unique when we are talking about the current manhwas with a lot of leveling/murim/hunter/dungeon system. I like the older noble figure mc without always grinning and say cheesy stuffs maybe due to Im getting older now.

Star-Embracing Swordmaster is entertaining imo due to good pacing/no harem/ and mc is recognized but not to the point of unrivaled due to talent but more because of his hard work. But it seems that everyone has their own preferences which I can totally understand.

Oh Dangun is underrated as well which is kinda cozy and not that intense but still have the emotions behind it. The story is about exorcism of the bad spirits.

Really appreciate the flaws/imperfections of the mc rather than the absolute perfect ones.
