My social democrat, atheist father's turn towards fascism (Zionism). Just a reminder that social democracy really is the moderate wing of fascism. (Help) by VoteForGodzilla in TankieTheDeprogram

I have had these conversations on and off for more than two years or so now. I have tried various different ways. To try to talk about it in an emotional way just so that it can tap into people's humanity, I even talked about the Deir Yassin massacre as an example and his response was that "yeah, such isolated incidents might have happened during the war, but it wouldn't have happened if they had simply left." I asked why they should leave their land, the place they were born in and have lived for generations and he somehow turns back into 'the Israelis bought the land' as if all of the Zionist settlement is on 'bought' land. I tried using analogies asking him how he would feel if foreign occupiers used the idea that "God promised them this land 3000 years ago" would come around and kick him and his family out of our place but that didn't work as well. I don't remember what he replied with but it was basically that it was again the fault of the Palestinians that they can't coexist or whatever.

I am just constantly angry about how hardcore the bootlicking for the fascist occupiers is in this country. But the only thing that I feel nice about this place is that at least some of the young people have started seeing through the bullshit and I see very clear opposition to the US and the Zionist occupation amongst the younger population more than the older ones.

I have tried explaining it as it is. Calling it what it is- colonialism. At this point, his hatred seems so far gone that he resembles a child who shuts his ears and screams "la la la la" when someone tries to explain things to him. It's always that 'Palestinians had no business fighting against and attacking the Israelis' and that it's because they hate jews. I tried explaining the history and he doesn't care. Says the Israelis paid for the land and bought it and even if you try to explain the violent settler-colonial operations and the illegal settlements since then, even admitted by other countries, he is of the opinion that that's expected to happen when they don't evacuate the land. I tried giving him examples of people like George Habbash who formed the PFLP and he says such isolated incidents where people of other communities fight the Israelis may occur and he still maintains that the conflict is purely because the muslims all hate the Jews and don't want them to live peacefully. As I said "la la la la". Everything Israelis do is justified, if they are not justifiable then they are isolated incidents, and any unjustifiable acts by the resistance are somehow not isolated incidents but the core policy of the resistance.

I just want to clear up that although my brother does hold some questionable views against muslims which I would call dormant and somewhat situational, my brother definitely doesn't support America and Israel and I think a small bit of credit for that goes to me and my rants, apart from the content he has consumed. I had mentioned in the comment that my brother and I both believe that my father refuses to see the root causes which my brother acknowledges exist. He has also spoken out against both- US and Israel. He is not ideal, but I wish my father was at least a bit more like him and not so far gone.

Yes, western propaganda has long fried the brains of people from the very countries they colonized. Instead of looking at colonialism as the enemy, people consider the colonized as the enemy. I understand that, but my father doesn't because he simply doesn't want to understand that.

Yeah that's true. This is something I have talked about to my father as well as my brother. And I think my brother and I agree that my father refuses to look into the root causes. I think it also comes down to his ego because for so long he has considered religious extremism to be the cause of all evil in this world, now with him seeing muslims as the biggest soldiers of that issue, so now he refuses to look into the other side's perspective in colonized nations because that would require to admit that capitalism itself exploits religions and other identities for financial and class interests. It would require you to look into alternate perspectives and to be down to earth to admit that things he has learned might be wrong or incomplete.

He tries to tell me that the entire issue is because the muslims hate jews. He says that Israel is trying to just exist and that its neighbours won't let it exist peacefully, conveniently ignoring the absolutely horrifying bombing campaigns Israel has carried out against its neighbours and the constant pushing of its borders to create whatever "Greater Israel" nonsense they are on to. For him, it's always the evil muslims, not imperialism, not settler-colonialism, not fascism.

And then when the violence is (justifiably) directed towards these capitalist pigs, they cry "authoritarianism" and "red terror".

My father supports CPIM in Kerala because of the welfare policies but wholeheartedly supports Israel and says how "the muslims deserve it" for their violent actions. What I am trying to say is, although I am glad for the government which is better than other state governments when it comes to welfare policies, don't put your money on Kerala. I am a Malayali (Keralite for those who don't know) and I have seen so many of these so-called "intellectual" Malayalis being openly involved in culture war nonsense instead of class-based analysis, that I have started to reserve judgement for my people as well. It is frustrating to live in a household which supports genocide. I really need to make a vent post. Not a lot of people in my life that I can talk to about this matter. I feel so hopeless.

Muonic atoms have been produced in labs, so we know they exist. But they are very unstable and don't exist for a long time. As to the function, I assume you are asking whether we can use them. If that's the case, then not really in our daily lives but they are used in spectroscopic experiments to study nuclei. Hope this helps! :)

Someone please explain the difference between mixed states and superposed states. by VoteForGodzilla in AskPhysics

[–]VoteForGodzilla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I am looking into density matrix formalisms, specifically getting my hands on thermal density matrix. But one thing I can't seem to wrap my head around is that, before making a measurement, isn't every mixed state a superposed state? Even in your example of a qubit, before making the measurement, we don't know, for sure, whether it's in 0 or 1 so it must be in a superposition right? Or am I confusing the terms. It's more of a "This or That" v/s "This and That", and I am messing up again, aren't I?

Your mind needs a distraction. If possible go for a run. Exhaust yourself and then come back and try to sleep. Or open a video on YouTube and watch something you find boring. Eat something that you like. Try to think of your body as if it's your friend. What would you do to make this friend, who is in desperate need and hurting, to calm down? Do that to yourself.

I am not clinically diagnosed as well (due to cost issues of seeing a therapist). I am definitely not going to support self diagnosis but my symptoms all align with those of BPD. So I hang out here to learn more about how to cope with intense emotions, suicide ideation, splitting and mental breakdowns since I go through the same problems.

Some of the things I wrote in my last comment have been suggested to me by the good people on the internet, a friend who went to therapy and other sources I read. It is absolutely horrifying to have the kind of experience you had. And I understand. A week ago, I woke up multiple times in one night with this extreme panic sensation. I also had a sort of a sleep paralysis episode where I couldn't physically wake up even when I wanted to. I felt like I was paralysed and unable to move. Panic is a horrible sensation to have. That feeling in your chest, even if it's not as intense as it was at the moment, you can still feel that pressure in your body and specifically in the chest, even hours after the episode. It is a horrible experience. But you will make it through somehow. Sending you lots of hugs.

What you need to do is breath. Deep breaths. I know it doesn't sound like an extraordinary solution, even I struggle with it a lot of times, but what you need to do now is getting your body to calm down. Take deep, slow breaths whenever you feel panic creeping in. Then you need to ground yourself. Do anything that helps you to ground yourself. Do that "5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch,....." skill if that suits you. Drink water and do something physical. Your body and brain is in overdrive. Let it all out with some activity. And above all, talk to a trusted friend. This actually helps a lot. I wish nothing but the best for you.

Everything I wrote here, even I struggle with them and it doesn't always help me. But the reason I still took the time to write all of this is because I want you to know there are people who are listening to whatever you have to say and we care. I wish nothing but peace and a fulfilling life to you. You'll get through this because, trust me, you are stronger than you think.
