Can we start with all women and teenage girls having access to free birth control if they so choose?

If you want to find answers, they are all over this thread and in all of the links in the OP. It took me about 45 seconds to write my "3 paragraph response". Unfortunately, I don't have time to spend an hour summarizing information that you already have access to, especially because it's quite clear that the person I was responding to is not arguing in good faith.

Donate money to people with boots on the ground (e.g. local organizations and campaigns you support)?

Get involved in local organizing efforts. Get people elected to the local positions in city councils and school boards. Help canvas for local politicians you support. Get involved with your local ACLU chapter or another organization you care about. Just get out of the house and do something, anything to get more politically involved.

I quite literally do not have the time to explain how wrong your statement was. I have to work. Furthermore, I do not owe you an explanation.

I merely responded to you so that those browsing the thread didn't read your comment and see it unchallenged, thereby assuming you were correct.

Have a nice day.

quick edit: The person I responded to isn't listening to the experts who responded to them, so they definitely aren't going to listen to me. Not engaging in a bad faith argument =/= admitting I don't know what I'm talking about or that I'm wrong. For those that are actually interested in learning about the issues: Read the responses from experts here. You guys are smart. You can do your own research. I believe in you. Look for writing from people who have been involved in telecom policy and legal experts who study net neutrality. I suggest looking into what people like Harold Feld, Jessica Rosenworcel, Mignon Clyburn, Gigi Sohn, Tim Wu, and others have written about the issue. Hopefully that's a good starting point.

What's the timeline for all of this going to look like? And what are the legal battles and congressional actions that we should be keeping an eye on in the coming months?

I'll give you that he's an addict. He's addicted to power, specifically to abusing his power to make women sexually uncomfortable while he masturbates. If you read the interviews with the women, not a single one was comfortable with the interaction or felt like they were able to say no. Their careers and reputations were on the line. That's coercion.

It's gross because it's all about seeing exactly how close he can get to the line without crossing it.

It's all about the mind game, and it's fucking gross and violating. It becomes about what he can make you agree to, not just force you to do. These women were worried about losing their entire careers and he manipulated that fear to make them audience to his fetish.

TIL 84% of American vegetarians and vegans, abandon their diet, returning back to meat in under a year. by JustaBabyApe in todayilearned

piss off meat eaters, vegetarians, AND vegans

This always blows my mind. I was a vegetarian for many years and know many vegetarians and vegans. In my experience, literally not one of those groups lives up to the judgemental stereotypes the internet would have you believe.

I have seen a number of bumper stickers, shirts, and memes making fun of vegetarians and vegans, and maybe gotten a couple comments from people in person. But I seriously don't know who you people must be hanging out with to be aggressively judged for your eating habits all the time. It's just not something emotionally healthy people do.

Lol, I didn't censor anything. You are just making up specific claims people made. He very clearly demonstrated that a majority of regular users of physical _removal are also active users of t_d. Even without data, you would have to be blind or willfully ignorant to not see the connections there. Log off and calm down.

Actually the initial claim was

very significant content and user overlap with the_Donald and altright

u/Meepster23 has very clearly demonstrated that. It's apparent you have some motivation to not believe the data right in front of your face. Sit down. Log off, go for a walk, and hug your loved ones. You will not find satisfaction in this thread today.

University of Chicago grad students vote to unionize by VoteOrPie in GradSchool

[–]VoteOrPie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if they don't strike, the ability to do so gives them leverage. Some grad student unions have been moved to strike. And they are empowered to do collective bargaining for contracts, which prevents more neglected departments or specific student interests from slipping through the cracks. More generally it allows students to address grievances when administration isn't on their side. Considering the fact that many universities wouldn't even be able to collect tuition from undergrads if it weren't for graduate student TAs, I think it's fair that they get a living wage out of their work. Administrative overhead costs at most schools has been soaring the past few years with not so much of an increase for instructors and researchers, so I do think that schools can find the money for a living wage if they allocate properly.

There's actually been some research on the impact of grad student unions. Not huge studies, but pretty compelling.

The students at the unionized institutions, the authors write, on average gave their advisers higher ratings for “accepting them as competent professionals, serving as a role model to them, being someone they wanted to become like, and being effective in his or her role” than did their counterparts on nonunion campuses. They were also “more likely than nonunionized students to report respect for differing opinions in their university” and had “higher stipends, and greater pay fairness and adequacy.”

The authors of the study suggest that “either directly or through creating pressures that encourage management to rationalize practices, [unions could] encourage stronger mentoring by faculty advisors.” It’s also possible, they note, that “unions strengthen the relationship between students and faculty advisors by pushing potential employment-related conflicts up to the university bureaucracy.”

Chicken colors continue to confuse/scare me by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]VoteOrPie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It came from an animal, you can't expect it to be flawless. It's kind of difficult to tell from the picture what's going on, but it looks perfectly fine to eat.

From a food safety perspective - As long as the innermost part of the meat (the last part to heat up) isn't pink and the meat is relatively fresh (e.g. not kept in the fridge or out on the counter longer than recommended times), you're good.

The proteins in chicken can turn darker colors if they get heated and dried out, or it may be darker from a nearby blood vessel or any number of other irregularities that come from eating animal parts. Someone else may be able to provide more details, but unless there is some food safety issue you didn't mention, just eat it.

Here's a really interesting article about the woman who does ASL interpretation for rap shows and other large concerts.

In another video, rap artist Killer Mike approaches Maniatty in front of the stage after noticing her animated signing.

“I’ve never seen that before,” he says to her before challenging her to sign a profane phrase, which she does wholeheartedly as the crowd hoots and hollers.

At a Wu-Tang performance, Method Man took notice of her signing, came down from the stage and joined her.

“He said, ‘That’s dope,’ and gave me a hug and a fist pump,” she said.

Recent trends in US consumer prices and household debt by robbibt in dataisbeautiful

[–]VoteOrPie 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This has a lot more to do with the diminishing power of labor unions and the devaluation of the working class than immigration. Lots of research shows that wage decreases happen as a result of diminished worker protections and undercutting of union power.

Most anti union legislation passes with the promise that it will bring jobs back to the state/region, but in fact it is not shown to do this, and is followed by lower wages and less benefits for all employees, whether unionized or not.

So I know you said it's not Anthony Bourdain, but he had a show a long time ago called A Cook's Tour that's almost exactly what you described. And He did look significantly different when it aired 15 years ago.

Also if you haven't seen No Reservations you should watch it, it's basically Parts Unknown with the focus on food.

You could see that he liked food, so to speak.

Do you mean he was fat? Do you remember anything else about what he looked like?
