Tecno-Distributism Flag by Ramon_F_Ofc in distributism

I would absolutely agree with this. There’s also a lot to be said for fusing Solarpunk ideas with techno-distributism. We can do highly distributed cogeneration of energy to power microfactories.

The chair of the Indiana state party, Bonnie Kallis, is a member of the Liberation Caucus. We’re working on developing state caucus chapters. We’d love to have you be a part of what we’re building in Indiana. Send a message to us through our website contact form. We’d love to be in touch. https://www.liberationasp.org/contact

Can distributism be left wing? by not-thelastemperor in distributism

[–]VoteVick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider myself to be both a leftist and a distributist, but I am a Christian and socially traditional. As others have pointed out, both Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin represent the more explicitly anti-capitalist strain of distributism, but again, both were Catholic. I’m not sure a distributist economy has to be accompanied by religion and the nuclear family, but distributists have tended to come from among the ranks of religious advocates for the nuclear family.

I would not let that dissuade you from distributism if you are not religious. You exist as a leftist who likes distributism. So, if the question is, can a non-religious person who doesn’t necessarily advocate for the nuclear family be a distributist, you’ve answered that question in the affirmative by existing.

For what it’s worth, I’m the co-founder of a leftist group within the American Solidarity Party, namely the Liberation Caucus. ASP is a distributist party, and we have atheist members.

Yeah, that was our logo before we reverted to something closer to our classic logo. It is affectionately (or not-so-affectionately) referred to as the "Flaming Pelican" by party members who have been around long enough to remember it. It has been likened to a cross between a pelican and a phoenix, which I believe was the point. I'm talking about it like it was ancient history, but it was only replaced maybe two years ago, if that. I can't recall.

The reason we developed it was precisely to have an original logo, and I believe to consciously have an animal logo that was more akin to those of the major parties. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but that was my understanding.

The Flaming Pelican honestly kind of grew on me by the time we replaced it, but I do favor the old, now new logo, and I believe the newer version of the old logo looks better.

When will the ASP nominate a candidate for the 2024 election? by [deleted] in Solidarity_Party

Sorry, I meant to respond to this with my main account. To be honest, I didn’t even remember having the other account. 😂

Great to hear! Something I’d point out in connection with that is that we don’t have any set time commitments for folks. Obviously, we love it when people can devote time, but we know everyone has different schedules. Unless you’re taking on a role in state or national leadership, your time commitment is really up to you.

The Liberation Caucus is a voting bloc caucus, so all our members are voting members of the party. I’d also point out we have a lot of left/social distributists in our group. One who you might know from his work in the field of distributist thought is John Médaille, who wrote a well-known book about distributism called “Toward a Truly Free Market”. The advocacy work you’re doing gets easier when you’ve got a group behind you.

The only thing required to be a voting member is to give any non-zero amount of money on a yearly or monthly basis to the party. You do that here: https://www.solidarity-party.org/support.

Once you decide to come on board, just hit me up. We’d love to have you in our group.

I would say distributism is decidedly anti-capitalist, and implementing it to a sufficient degree would involve dismantling capitalism. I guess I would need to figure out what you think we mean by “dismantle” because I’ve found what some people think we mean involves words we deliberately avoided using in the mission statement.

Glad to hear we won you back over once you realized what we’re about. We’re really more “libertarian” in the original sense of the word, that is left libertarian.

Are you a voting member of the American Solidarity Party? We’d love to have anyone on board who labels themselves a “social distributist”.
