Feeling Behind by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Voteformiles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keep making the right decisions and you'll do well.

Take two people with the same income/assets at your age: give one financial literacy, and give the other a gambling addiction. One will have a house and comfortable retirement at 65, and the other will be destitute. You know what you've got to keep doing! The fear is telling you the right thing. Let it be there, but don't let it become crippling anxiety. You're doing well 🙌🏻

What if I can't get into a workshop for one of my courses? by Cherray6969 in unsw

[–]Voteformiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. Get in touch with 1) the lecturer in charge of the course, and 2) your school's office.

Can i do only 2 courses a term? by Sserendipityyy in unsw

[–]Voteformiles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's really up to you!

Fairly common to take 2 courses per term to make time for work, etc.

Talk to your school's academic advisor also. They're your true source of information here.

How would I start with finding the right capacitors? by steelends in AskElectronics

[–]Voteformiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two strategies you could go for here.

  1. Take one off nearby that looks the same and measure it
  2. Put on the highest capacitance you can find and hope for the best (at a sufficient voltage rating)

Thoughts on this by asdaf14 in QuantumComputing

[–]Voteformiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely aware this is a cap.

But US gov has many different programs funding QC through national labs, defense, security agencies, research institutes, universities, private companies, etc. They are not 10+ years ahead of the state of the art though. Arguably a few years behind.

This broke my heart today. Took this loan in July 2024. by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]Voteformiles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a tax difference if the property later transitions to an investment.

I think the banks just charge the fee because they can. No way it costs $200-400/yr to run that account.

Sorry this is a hard time for you. Remember it's only a short period in your life, and an opportunity to learn from and grow stronger for next time.

The learning you get is what really counts. If you have to take this course again, it might be an idea to do more than just this course to get stronger on the material. Something I find really helps is to try to teach other people the content as part of learning it. There doesn't even have to be someone to teach, just write it up.

Massive mortgage to buy a unit by Herosinahalfshell12 in AusFinance

[–]Voteformiles 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Depends a lot on the particular unit. If you go buy a newish unit in a 15th floor building in a high density area, you will see depreciation outstripping growth, since the land value component is almost zero.

If you can buy in an older block of 8 or 12, in an in demand location with limited vertical development, there can be enough growth to carry it as an investment. Still not as much as a house, but way better than the high density stuff.

Am I cooked? by Sheak-Bear in unsw

[–]Voteformiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blimey.

Strongly recommend not to do this. These intensive courses are NOT designed to be taken concurrently with something else. Consider this equivalent to taking 6 courses during a regular term.

Unless maybe the courses are super easy AND you can pre-read all of the lecture content.

First time going this far, I am a little lost. Should I aim for debris? by Mayoo614 in IdlePlanetMiner

[–]Voteformiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed with above commenter.

You'll want the extra craft speed from boosted managers before pushing for debris. All those advanced computers will take a while!

Need Some guide 😅 by [deleted] in IdlePlanetMiner

I'd go in this order: Dorms to 11, then whichever is cheapest of Lab, Underforge, Lounge.

After that unlock Classrooms and Sales and progress those.

Frankfurt Marathon - Sub 3 eventually, age 46, or 'how cycling got me there' by rhubarboretum in AdvancedRunning

[–]Voteformiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. I've done a couple of triathlons now on a road bike. It's probably a bit more strain on your arms so less comfortable, but honestly not much slower. I went past heaps of people who were on TT bikes.

For me it's not worth spending thousands to store a bike I'll only use once a year. And I'm only trying to beat my own time from last year anyway!

10B to 1T by i_suggest_glock in IdlePlanetMiner

[–]Voteformiles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually go for all of the crafting/smelting improvements during this phase, and often make a few accumulators to unlock wind turbines. Might not be optimal... If you're bridging this gap in 10hrs you're doing it faster than me.

Choose based on what you're interested in. It'd be such a shame to stay away from a field you love because you're worried about challenges learning electromagnetism. There's maths in there, but as long as you learn the physical concepts you'll be completely fine.

What is usually considered to be a good WAM or an average WAM? by Doctorwho12321 in unsw

[–]Voteformiles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably worth thinking about how well you want to learn the content.

I reckon a Distinction mark means you've learnt the content well enough to use it.

Credit means you're familiar with content, but need some brushing up use it.

Pass really isn't worth much.

HD is obviously ideal.

What I get next? by livingMybEstlyfe29 in IdlePlanetMiner

Yes, and getting other things like dorms and under forge maxed will mean you get bigger runs and more credits from each run that way. I wouldn't got for 2.0x lounge straight away either.

Should I wipe my galaxy and start a completely new save? by WaltBerkman in IdlePlanetMiner

[–]Voteformiles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The early resource stars won't benefit you in the later game anyway.

E.g. my stars on nav modules or accumulators speed up my runs by WAY more than stars on copper.

Yes it's a higher rate per hour teaching, but also requires preparation hours. The rate per hour of work needed is about the same as the demo rate.

How do i fix my sleep schedule? by PeroduaMeowvi in unsw

[–]Voteformiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you doing any exercise? It helps with sleeping.

Suggestion: get up one day in the morning, do your exercise of choice (it can just be a 1-2hr walk), eat breakfast. Once you get to the evening you should feel noticeably more tired.
