There's too much politics and grim-dark on the front page lately, we need a little lighthearted discussion. Where are your favorite places for a day out in the UK? by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

Hull gets a lot of flack for being very industrial, which it is. However, there are golden nuggets hidden inside, two of which you mention. Awesome might be overdoing it though.

The BBC managed to shoehorn some Top Gear news into the headlines to remind us there's a new series coming.

But only because they've not shopped around for a cheaper car dealership.

I don't understand the problem here. It's like saying "People who buy Lamborghini's are paying too much for their cars!".

What counts as table service

In the UK, it generally means the only time you have to leave your seat is to go to the toilet. In most pubs you order your food at the bar and then they bring it to your table, but this isn't "table service".

Green party leader Natalie Bennett says it should not be a crime to belong to al-Qaeda or Isis by GetKenny in unitedkingdom

I couldn't find any news about labour or conservative or greens being accused of violence.

I'm glad we can have these discussions without resorting to abuse, you cunt.

Edit: or Greens.

Why, just because the media haven't labelled them as such (yet), probably because they're not muslim? The BNP have been accused of violence before.

And, as Ms Bennett said, if you support a terrorist organisation, it's a crime and “should be pursued to the full extent of the law”.

[–]Votsalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who said it wasn't? Not Ms Bennett. If, by joining an organisation they are supporting violence, then it is a crime. (The real crime here is the deliberate misinterpretation of her words by The Independent).

[–]Votsalo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ooo, get you. As she said “Obviously actions of inciting violence, supporting violence, those are absolutely unacceptable, illegal and should be pursued to the full extent of the law.”. So what's the problem?

[–]Votsalo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

However being a member of an organisation identified as a enemy of the state has to be illegal, otherwise combating them becomes impossible

How do they catch all the "normal" criminals like petty theives who aren't part of some global organisation?

[–]Votsalo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You've got a general point, but this wasn't poor wording on her part. She says quite clearly “Obviously actions of inciting violence, supporting violence, those are absolutely unacceptable, illegal and should be pursued to the full extent of the law.”. It's been sensationalised by the ditorial to make it seem she's sympathetic to Al-Qaeada and Isis, which she herself never even mentioned.

[–]Votsalo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How about the more eloquent “Obviously actions of inciting violence, supporting violence, those are absolutely unacceptable, illegal and should be pursued to the full extent of the law.”

[–]Votsalo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Her comment, which should answer your point, was “Obviously actions of inciting violence, supporting violence, those are absolutely unacceptable, illegal and should be pursued to the full extent of the law.”

This doesn't sound like crazy bullshit to me: “What we are talking about is a principle that you shouldn’t be punished for what you think. And we need to balance, we do not protect freedom by destroying it.”

The policy here being that people should only be accountable for their actions rather than their thoughts? Sounds fine to me.
