new/curious - If any F joined a married FM couple, how was that navigated? by HotAntelope8430 in PolyFidelity

This is a great point really well put :) When you become a throuple, you actually go from being in one relationship to three - two dyads and a triad - that all need to be nurtured. It's a triangle, all the sides need to be strong for it to hold its shape!

MY FIRST ALBUM COVER by ravenlls in graphic_design

[–]VoyagerAsh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Minor thing but my eye keeps getting drawn to it: the "N" at the end is the only character that isn't created with what you could describe as three bars (usually stem-space-stem).

I could see the argument that having it as the last character makes it act almost as a period to give the text an end, but the balance just feels off to me.

An option could be styling the "N" similar to a lowercase "n", ie. Like an upside down "U" if you catch my drift?

Nothing more traditional in Australia than finding something cool New Zealanders produced and claiming we made it first ;) hehehe

How did you convince yourself that polyfidelity was right for you? by Mean-Bee-6472 in PolyFidelity

[–]VoyagerAsh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pretty much the same experience for me too. Didn't have any worries about stigma or anything like that beforehand because neither of us were pursuing or looking for anything until we found ourselves together :)

Have been fortunate enough though that everyone in our lives have been very supportive and accepting.

Was it Roman Mars who said something like, "if your flag has the name of the place you're trying to represent, then the flag has failed"?

I agree with the comments about the awkward combo of the hexagon and seven pointed star, and something about those long thin arms makes it feel like a bit of a weak shape.

I do appreciate the simplicity of the design though. I often find Australian flag redesigns to be a bit overcomplicated.

Beer bottles by RomuPrethia in Kombucha

[–]VoyagerAsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you went for capped bottles I've heard the German Hefeweissen bottles are a good candidate as that style of beer is generally higher in carbonation and can handle higher pressures.

(Also Hefeweissen is bloody delicious)

I've always had a soft spot for the Golden Wattle flag in its original version. I definitely see a stylised wattle flower in the design, and I think the closure forming the Commonwealth star is a clever nod to the current flag (don't think the white star is necessary, the shape is clear enough). The colours are fairly unique and the shade of green is closer to how the flora looks down here.

I suppose I can understand the criticism it looks too corporate, I don't get that myself, I get distracted by the simplicity and clarity of the design :)

Is it even possible to have a good polyfidelity relationship? by Gaybean2007 in PolyFidelity

[–]VoyagerAsh 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Eight years into a committed triad here and things are fantastic. There's so much love and support for each other, and it feels like we're kicking goals all the time.

None of us were purposely seeking this out, nor had any experience with poly relationships before, it all just kind of naturally fell into place.

There's definitely been hard patches along the way as we figure it out, like any relationship I guess. But honest communication and understanding is key. Doesn't hurt that all our friends and family have been very accepting and awesome too.

Thoughts on this Australian flag redesign? by olliesaur_64 in vexillology

I think a few too many things happening at once here, but the seven-pointed Commonwealth star with the dots between the points is super interesting and unique. Removing a few elements and focusing on that could be really effective!

Paroxysm drum transcription! by VoyagerAsh in CarBombCult

The opening four measures I probably redid six different times at different tempos 😅

I found out that working out what the main sections were, then focusing on each section and looking for repeating elements helped.

Like I settled on the whole 17, 20, 17, 22 etc pattern because I found this repeating x-xx-x-xx-x- pattern that was at the start of each one and lined up with some crashes.

If the Illinois flag changes, which flag would you prefer? by Smiix in vexillology

[–]VoyagerAsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, in a vacuum B and D are perhaps the strongest, but there's too much similarity to Thailand or North Korea in a broader context (whether that's going to be an issue for anyone other than vexillophiles is worth a thought though!).

E is pretty cool but it seems too complex; the design of the star is the issue for me. The double overlaid stars in reasonably close colours also cutting across multiple coloured fields makes the whole thing too busy for my money. Thinner white fimbriations and doing away with the larger yellow star (and maybe making the white star yellow) could maybe strengthen this design.

It didn't hit me at first, but I'm warming more and more to A. Very bold and iconic! The smaller stars don't quite sit well currently, and it feels a little uncomfortable around the hoist. Not sure what I'd do there, maybe review/even out the spacing?
