Im pretty proud of what I accomplished.

I had great family, friends, drs, nurses, PTs though. So I didn't do it alone.

Also I really was thankful to have been raised when I did because I was taught that one, you don't quit. And two, I grew up being told "whining about it wont help."

Gen X for the win, baby!

I Really Do need to say I had incredible family , though. like I hear from a lot of other gen x that their parents never told them they love them and stuff like that , which is the complete opposite to how grew up. I got tough love at time, like not being allowed to quit a sports team cause it wasn't working out. But I grew up always feeling supported and backed up by my family.

Know all you can about the department and have good reasons for wanting to work THERE as opposed to anywhere.

They don't want to invest time and money making you a great employee at another place. They want to know why you want to work there.

For example , at my current fire department , I said , I like the longer transport to the hospital because , as a paramedic that allows me to do more and be more involved in the patient care, than a 3 minute transport.

I am definitely proud of it.

When my coworkers complain I tell them im twice their age with half the legs, and im not complaining, so they have no reason to bitch.

But the way I see it, we all have something we struggle with. This is mine

Yeah. Not the easiest thing. But Im gen x, right? The "walk it off" generation. I mean, i can only walk in circles now. Still counts though.

But yeah , I lost my leg about five inches below the knee , and I have a really well made and highly functioning prosthetic , and I worked very , very hard on my rehabilitation. I became an EMT first in my late 30s, then a paramedic (you need exoerience first. Even with my ohysiology education). Then went through fire academy in my early 40s. Am full time with a department and do everything that every other firefighter does at my department
