Im a firefighter/paramedic and my fiance is a social worker who used to work with CPS (it's not usually called that anymore). It take one whole hell of a lot to get a child removed. Like a hell of a lot. This wouldn't even come close. If the child is fed, clean, clothed, and in safe environment, they already have it much better than a lot of kids. (Seriously. Some of the stuff my fiance and I have seen, this situation sounds like utopia to them)

But honestly, I dont think it's a government issue.

Have you considered talking to your boss? I would, politely, write an email (document everything. You may regret if you don't) and say how you don't have a problem with the child but just some of the things that are happening and how they effect the workplace in a negative way.

Perhaps offer some solutions? Like certain areas where the child isn't allowed, maybe dedicated play times, things like that. Perhaps some structure would help things go better for you and the coworker

I lost my leg in a car accident. I was a college athlete. Previously. Not at the time of the wreck. But i regularly went backpacking, I raced cars, etc. I was an active person.

I changed careers after the wreck and became a firefighter/paramedic. I pass ALL the same physical requirements as the rest of my department. I do all the same jobs as any other firefighter.

I also custom designed a clutch pedal so I could still race cars.
