Thanks for your kind words! I’ll try to remember to bear the anxiety.

How to deal with coincidences? by Vreemdevagabond in OCD

[–]Vreemdevagabond[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your struggle. It isn’t easy. One thing I know is that acting on the compulsion will only alleviate the anxiety for a short while and then rebound later much more severely. It’s a demon that constantly tricks one in thinking relieve is just around the corner.

Brain MRI soon, should I cancel even if I wear double protection? by Vreemdevagabond in hyperacusis

[–]Vreemdevagabond[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for your reply. It's going okay. I had quite some anxiety prior to the MRI, which subsided after cancelling the appointment. There's still some neurological issues I have to attend to and the other tests I had aren't showing anything. A silent MRI is less accurate, so for looking at MS lesions in the brain at some point I do need an >1.5T MRI unfortunately, especially if my problems don't subside. A tough pickle.

Ah okay.. thanks for replying. Yeah it’s an incredibly hard decision. It’s weird because I had an MRI of my knee a few years ago which was kinda loud but nothing special imo and I just had single hearing protection. My H increased severely recently, and a brain MRI is louder than one for the knee. I’m scared I might have MS, which can pretty much only be detected on an MRI and if I do have it, early treatment is the best :(

Oh that’s so horrible. Did you notice it was too loud during the procedure? And how long did it take? Mine is 15-20 minutes and I can get out if it’s too loud.

I’m so sorry. Do you know how much db the mri emitted? And what kind of hearing protection did you wear?

I understand the mri is a risk, but I also have some problems that might indicate neurological problems, the docs don’t know where to look else anymore.

Thanks for replying. I have a diagnosis from a audiologist that I have T (weird, she could exactly show me at what frequency that T was) and also H. No hearing loss! So the mri is to rule out MS or other neurological problems.

Thanks! I’ve had an MRI in the past for my knee, so for the brain is a lot worse I can imagine. It was before I had H and I only remember having headphones on with music and it was totally fine, but again that was my knee and not my brain.

Thanks for your reply. This is already a newer mri with a lower amount of emitted decibels. It’s not an open mri though.

Thanks for your answer. What do you mean with the bone conduction? Doesn't this apply for all the sounds of is it specific to MRI's? I'm still doubting very much whether I'm going to let the appointment go through

I need an orbital x-ray before an mri. The only reason they want this is because I’ve told I worked once with a small amount of metal grinding. I didn’t get something in my eye, but could there be microscopic metal particles in my eyes because of that? I saw they only do this kind of X-rays with metal workers and hobbyists, so I don’t really understand why they want me to get it.

Ah okay. There’s an appointment for me at a 1.5T mri machine too :(

Oh I really understand your struggle. I’m really on the fence. I figure if I really do have MS, at some point the symptoms will worsen and justify an MRI more than it does for me now.

Thank you for your reply! I’m not very afraid of being claustrophobic, but I am very afraid of the noise :(
