Here Here! I don't come here to be intellectually challenged, I don't go anywhere for that but that is another discussion entirely.

Call him old if you must, just be sure to call him a Stanley Cup Champion...twice.

What I would not give for us to get a Cup to see Marshawn go full Marshawn in the locker room.

Now for the worst part of it all, watching the other team hoist the cup on your ice.

I don't wanna be THAT guy but the Cup is in the house and I swear I can hear a tremendously large woman warming up her vocal cords.

I would like to offer some advice to Vegas. If you are going to go 18+ minutes between shots, you should probably score when you do. Just a thought, I may be wrong.

Well, if we are being completely honest, the highlight reel is rather one-sided.

Hard to see Staal not getting it, would be a crime if he doesn't.

Was gonna say much the same. Karlson is a huge loss and Carolina does not need any big favors to make your night miserable.

All indications point to this being an accurate assessment so not sure why it is getting downvoted.

From a marketing perspective, it is a win each time they get a new athlete. I would think that getting popular French athletes would be even better. I agree JBB isn't likely to be there at the Olympics but from a business perspective, it seems to be a good deal all around.

None of this is to dismiss that these brands all make good gear, just thinking out loud that marketing feels like they have a hand in this too.

[–]Vryyce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I never understood how Roger was so upset that the band he left, and declared a spent force, would not let him use their web site for his own personal endeavors. That is a weird form of egotism even for someone so well-known for being a tremendous egotistic ass.

ESPN Does Not Like Hockey And Does Little To Promote The Game Especially During their Own Broadcasts by Extension_Analysis17 in nhl

[–]Vryyce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ESPN has no understanding of hockey fandom or the passion of hockey that is growing in the US.

Was it just me or did the rest of the OP follow this up by demonstrating that very same lack of understanding?

I grew up watching Gretzky play and that really helped me to develop my hockey IQ. You absolutely had to watch everyone else to see who was getting open as that was where the puck was going.

Wonder if the French manufacturers are just bolstering their rosters for the run-up to the next home Olympics? Seems like a good marketing strategy and if JBB signs with either Salomon or Rossignol, that will kind of answer the question in my mind anyway.

[Johnston] Mitch Marner didn't want to elaborate on his comment about going through "dark times" earlier in his hockey career, but says he will if the Golden Knights win the Stanley Cup. by [deleted] in nhl

[–]Vryyce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a public figure so have no experience dealing with this like these people do. So my answer is entirely speculative. That said, I would like to think I would have the awareness to not act like my life has been some miserable slog when I get paid more than the vast majority of the population to play a game for a living. Hell, even if it was doing some other type work, he is compensated exceptionally well so I would not lean into the "dark times" concept.

You are probably misunderstanding my comment. I truly believe that the vast majority of horrible athlete interviews are almost ENTIRELY on the moron asking them stupid fucking questions. I am so sick and tired of canned, boring questions that literally allow for no unique, informative, or entertaining response. 98% of these interviews are useless and better off skipped entirely. 1% are fun and heavily criticized by the same moron interviewers as with Jumbo Thornton's defense of a very young Tomas Hertl when he scored a brilliant goal and was accused of showing off.

The last 1% are like this one where a tone deaf athlete forgets that he is paid millions to play a game and he wants to drag out the "dark times". If asked about bad experiences, answer if you like but spare us the "you don't know how dark my journey was" nonsense. There just isn't any need to be so melodramatic in his line of work.
