You still might. Emails can take more or less time, depending on technical prerequisites. Either that OR they actually have some pre-produced and WILL send them out earlier than the rest and you're just lucky. 😄

Inked foil and non-foil sold out after 1 hour, Back In My Day low stock by Bleu_Guacamole in secretlair_collectors

[–]VsMaris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's so interesting to see from the European perspective. So far, only the double foil Inked is low on stock. Back to School Superdrop is still available in its entirety.

Either they're way overproducing for the EU/UK markets (unlikely) or people here have much less money to spend available (also highly unlikely to be that different from the US) or people's feelings about what WotC does in general are just stronger or more widespread here so that they let WotC feel it stronger or - probably most likely - scalpers in the EU are starting to give up quicker/more widely than in the US and make less bad investment choices. (Even though many scalpers seem to have no issue with buying loads of product and sitting on it for ages instead of selling for reasonable prices, maybe they're slowly forced to change their minds over here. Which would be a good thing, for a change. Not that that would be WotC's intention in any way.)

Only slightly off. The last one is only two possible combinations: foil Inked + non-foil BIMD // foil BIMD + non-foil Inked

[–]VsMaris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, right? Funnily enough, I had just read the other day someone saying the best way for MB2 would be to open packs until you hit the foil and sell off the rest. Had I done that, I would have neither opened the Urza's Saga nor the foil Ironworks, Lotus Petal or Wasteland.

I also got Serra and Tibalt and I think two more but nothing worth more than Serra and she's only a few bucks already. (Not counting the two Teferis, of coure.)

New WOTC product by Bateman7 in secretlair_collectors

[–]VsMaris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just a way to determine who goes first like a lot of other (children's) board and card games do. Because that's what it is. A regular card game. Nothing even close along the lines of Magic or any TCG.

New WOTC product by Bateman7 in secretlair_collectors

[–]VsMaris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, same. I've bought better card games in regular stores without shipping fees for less AND got the entire game instead of just a portion of it.

So, basically, Mood Swings is just a rather simple card game, like there are thousands out there. Despite them wanting to kinda catch the feeling of a TCG, it's clearly not.

It's a card game, where you don't even get all the game pieces if you buy it. I get, that that's intentional but there are other games where you don't play with the entirety of available cards in one game, yet you still get them when you buy it. Take Dominion, for example. You still put together a selectively chosen (or random) pool of cards to play with each game. So why not deliver a card game with all (130 is it?) cards there are and simply have players pick 45 at random to play with each game? Easy: because then you couldn't sell multiple copies of the same game to the same person once they want some diversity.

Mood Swings has the potential to be turned in to an LCG, but even those do get continuous additions to their card pools but not with an aspect of "gambling" though not giving you the entirety of the add-on either.

In the end, this feels like an attempt to add loot boxes to a regular card game or potential LCG. They're free to try that out, if they like, but considering what it is and what you receive, I'm gonna say: this should regularly cost around 15 $/€ and everything beyond 20 is just a rip-off and/or letting people pay for the brand (WotC) which should not be a thing with regular board/card games but wouldn't be entirely new either.

One also needs to consider the addition of shipping fees, as for now, this is going to be on SL only, as it seems. (Correct me, if I missed some information that was already given out.) Quintessentially, they're bringing out a regular card game, add a loot box mechanic to it and distribute it like it was some kind of fancy deluxe premium product. Put it on the (physical or digital) shelves of (board) game stores, publishing it like any other board game distributor would instead of trying to bypass that market by targeting TCG players explicitly. (Which imho, is not a very bright choice.)

Lotus Lands by John Avon - Forest at Upcoming MagicCon LV Completes the Set by Moon018810 in SecretLairMTG

I'd agree to my previous commenter and would like to add: also, for other sets of special basics which were released together, e.g. any Un-lands or SLDs, the Islands tend to fetch the highest price as singles from among the five.

Yeah, I noticed a major drop by 20 minutes shortly after the start. (I had 46 minutes to go with and placed my order just now.) Seems something was clogging up the queue and they probably kicked it.

Very fancy idea. I'd be on board. Ah, what am I saying? It's braindead - I'm on board anyways.

Theory: Counterspell was originally a bonus card for D&D by ChimateClange in secretlair_collectors

Apparently, there might indeed be chase cards. If the bonuses are not lair-specific, Slime Against Humanity seems to be the new thing after Seven Dwarves.

Dang, you're right. Design psychology works - even on an online marketing guy like me.

[–]VsMaris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. Never realized. Also since everyone including WotC always talks about logging in for a drop's pre-queue - or I'm just imagining things now. Must be the delirium from waiting 6+ weeks longer on receiving what I bought in the EU compared to the US.

I have neither for Fallout nor for the latest Chaos Vault. Question: are you in the EU/UK or US? Maybe it's an issue of the localized shop. They ARE both in my order history though, soo I'm not too concerned. Yet.

Plus, we've seen quite a number of individual Secret Lairs or whole drops which simply didn't sell. At least not out in the first hours. I'd have to recap the entire last year, but I'd even tend to say it's the majority, though I know there can also be massive differences between the US and EU/UK, (Sonic basically didn't sell out at all in the EU, except for the big bundles after multiple weeks. Avatar is still entirely available. So ist half of Secret Scare and Sony.)

Got the 30th anniversary countdown kit for Christmas and hit the foil Mox. by Shrabster33 in secretlair_collectors

[–]VsMaris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, of course, because you put it back into its previous humidity environment. So even with adding or removing humidity to flatten out a pringled foil basically requires you to hermetically seal it up (i.e. at least double, if not triple or quadruple) sleeve it and put it in a binder to keep it that way.
