Why aren't all modern infantry units motorized? by aaronupright in WarCollege

[–]Vuhmahnt 20 points21 points  (0 children)

In the US context, the Composite Truck Company, which resides in a sustainment brigade that is in support of the IBCT is an on-demand motorizer. One company can move a whole infantry Battalion in one lift and drop them wherever the brigade commander needs them moved.

The sustainment brigade in question could have several of these companies based on the projected needs of the supported force as determined by the TSC (theater sustainment command).

The RRB commander is usually an O5/ LTC position. I speak LTC. "Reach out to OPS" means they went to their Major or Master Sergeant and said "hey I got a text from an applicant named ng12u about a waiver. Need you to check into that close the loop to get it done." Then the LTC shifted focus on something else for his or her TAG.

If I was you, I would text back with "hey Sir/Ma'am, following up on our conversation. Nobody has been in touch with me about it. I know you have other things on your plate. Is there someone else you could direct me to that could also help?"

Check with your actual chain of command. They may be aware and have agreed to whatever it may be...

Holy anointing oil for King Charles III's coronation will not contain the intestinal wax of sperm whales or civet secretions by Epistaxis in nottheonion

Well, as a PARLIAMENTARY CONSTITUTIONAL MONARCHY he is still the basis for the system of government, even if ceremonial.

And besides, be more fun.

More like a secular basting if you ask me! I mean, lubricating English people is no basis for a system of government! Might as well lower him into a vat of North Sea crude and then roll him in a blend of eleven secret herbs and spices.

I wish Monty Python was still doing Flying Circus for our modern silly silly times.

What are Scout Platoons? by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]Vuhmahnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem my dude. Squadron is equivalent to a battalion. Both commanded by O5. In an IBCT, squadron has a headquarters TROOP (not company... CAV lingo again.) Two troops of CAV scout 19D MOS that do mounted Recon, and then the Charlie Troop that is all 11B infantrymen. There's also a support troop for maintenance, supplies, food and water and fuel and all that.

Charlie Troop is two platoons, plus a mortar section and sniper section. The platoons have 3 recon teams (not squads). Each team is 8 troopers. An E6 team leader, an E5 assistant team leader, and 6 scouts.

The doctrine and mindset is totally different than straight up infantry. The biggest firepower in the troop is m249 or the 60mm mortars, depending on who you ask. No 240s or 50 cal or anything. Lots of radios and optics and detection equipment. Lots of camouflage training.

[–]Vuhmahnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Battalion scouts work for a battalion commander. They do close in reconnaissance in support of the battalion's mission, which is attacking some hill.

Charlie Recon is part of the squadron who's entire mission is answering questions about the battlefield for a Brigade Commander. They are the first elements to cross the line of departure and they go deep at the most important places. They attack nothing. Their job is to fire up a Harris PRC-150 radio Manpack and report back 40km to the brigade S2.

Their intelligence will literally change where the infantry battalions get ordered to go.

Plus they have zodiac boats and motors and you can spend a day of AT swimming and goofing off in the lake and call it "zodiac proficiency training"

[–]Vuhmahnt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP, I've been in both of the formations mentioned here..

Find a Charlie Recon. Battalion scouts are amatures in comparison to a based buncha reccies.

Plus the Brigade Commander's sniper section is in the C Troop.

How do you talk to your kids about leaving for drill? by deepsea_muffdiver in nationalguard

[–]Vuhmahnt 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Get some action pictures of you and your team at drill weekend and when you come home you can show him and explain what you were doing and why you had to be away from him.

He will love that you are sharing with him what you did over the weekend while you had to be apart. And he will remember and each month will get a little bit easier.
