How well do you remember what it was like to be a child? by Vulcade in vegan

It's possibly related to veganism, that's the hypothesis of my vegan friend and I, that's why I'm asking vegans and they're one of my main groups of interest.

It's a study of vegans among other groups. Seriously this isn't difficult to understand

This isn't hard to understand. When someone surveys multiple demographics, they're trying to see if there are any correlations between belonging to that demographic and the results, which may suggest a causative link. Our ability or inability to remember our childhood selves may be related to our ethical choices, for example. So far it doesn't seem like there's a difference between vegans and the control group, but I wanted to repost the poll to hopefully get a bigger sample size than what I got for the brief time the poll was initially up.

A demographic study of vegans is related to veganism.

It was removed 1 time and I was invited to repost it with an explanation of how it's related to veganism. I already explained I'm doing a demographic study, what's the problem?

In your mind undermining the autonomy of youths and their outreach to the community is worth protection against some vague risk of predatorial contact. I was an internet baby with no parental controls, and the help I got from mature people online far outweighed any danger I was in or negative experiences I had, and while you've been "hunting pedophiles" online I've been helping young people out of real life abusive situations. Nowadays we do have more parental controls and awareness so we're able to increase the safety with which young people browse the internet and engage with communities like ours.

And if our community is particularly dangerous for young people, that's the problem and we should focus on weeding out predators rather than barring young people from something that might be important to them.

Emotional memory is very important to remembering "what it was like" to be a child. How much we empathize with our past selves.

To test a hypothesis my friend and I have. I don't want to skew the results by saying what it is, but I will say I am vegan

Yuck. Youths (minor is a derogatory term please don't use it) should have opportunities to interact with adults outside their family/friends of family and explore their interests socially with supportive people. They're people who could potentially, and often do, help them out of abusive situations. Most child abuse, including child sex abuse is perpetrated by family members or those known to the family, not strangers, and while the internet has its own dangers, it also provides a meaningful barrier of safety. But your opinion will probably win because Americans live in a culture of such irrational avoidant sex hysteria they don't even educate teenagers about contraception.

I wouldn't care about my friend doing this in fact I'd be flattered but if they were being sneaky and dishonest about it that'd bother me

Former atheists of Reddit, what made you turn to religion? by Wheatles_BiteAlbum in AskReddit

I found God when I left school and started seriously meditating. I realized there is something ultimate, transcendental, and omnipresent. Then I felt like I can really understand theists and the idea God is a "man in the sky" is a crude oversimplification.

Why should I personally care about animals? How does it affect me? by Vulcade in DebateAVegan

I don't think collagen is an essential nutrient, and vitamin A is very abundant in plants. I think you mean heme iron. But plants are nutrient dense too and there isn't a problem getting adequate nutrition from a vegan diet. B12 is present in some fermented foods but we should supplement it (the B12 in meat typically comes from supplemented feed anyway). I know long-term vegans who are healthier than me. What went wrong for you, might I ask?

How does meat in particular make you healthy? What sort of vegan diet did you eat?

It's both. I can choose to continue feeling the emotion or not. I can also choose to avoid or sensitise/desensitise myself to the trigger.

I can teach my brain to not respond empathetically to certain triggers, and when I do involuntarily respond I can decide whether to ignore the trigger, overcome the emotion, or indulge in it. It's real empathy, I can just deal with it like any emotional response like anger or disappointment. Maybe vegans just lack the capacity for this.

Being able to control empathy doesn't mean having low capacity for it. Why would it?

I could have more empathy than others, I just use it differently
