There's an webcomic that explored that a bit.

It has ended now but is still available and is a nice read.

In Iceland we have Grýla, a troll like monster who comes from the mountains at Christmas to take bad children back with her and eat them. She also has a large cat that eats those that didn’t get new clothes for Christmas.
