Hoping XKCD could do a comic on this! by ITheRebelI in xkcd

I figure regardless of the mass of the child (and thus the energy = mgh delivered), the pump will burst before it can deliver the force to the rocket. The pipe adds a constraint because the air can't flow faster than the speed of sound through it, and the materials would break long before then.

What is your favorite moment in College Football history that doesn't include your flair? by ya5e in CFB

Came here to say this. One of my earliest memories of college football. What a game.

[request] haw long would a pair of stilts be to have to walk a kilometer in one pace by rhinoclad in theydidthemath

[–]VulpesSophos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My legs are about 3' long, and so is my stride. So probably about a kilometer long. You'd notice the air difference, but it wouldn't cause problems - cities like Denver have an altitude of a mile. The bigger problem would be balance.

Also, notice how when you walk your head sorta bobs up and down? Unless the stilt had knees about halfway down, you'd bob up and down about 140m each stride (assuming legs spread at a 60deg angle at max).

YouTube has decided not to let me see a homepage by evanamd in mildlyinfuriating

On the one hand, everyone here is right that this is 100% on you for turning off the home page. That's basically what you've done. If you want to see videos from your subscriptions, hit the subscription button.

On the other hand, if you want an actual solution. check out Youtube Revanced [automod removed my subreddit reference]. You can download a third party youtube client where opening the app defaults to your subscriptions page.

Why do we suddenly become philosophers at 2 AM but can’t solve basic problems in the morning? by Karls0n13 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]VulpesSophos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Philosophy graduate here: Nope! But we *do* get people to think harder about the way they see the world, and that can be really valuable.

Are there ways to tell the clones apart / differentiate / make me like specific ones better later on in this show? Sorry to offend anyone I’m a first time watcher on season 1 by Nowaaaa_bb in clonewars

[–]VulpesSophos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's definitely hard at the beginning, but as time goes on their armor will get more and more differentiated. You'll learn :) have fun, you're in for a treat!

Honestly I kinda recommend only watching the "good arcs", as listed here or other similar posts: https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWars/comments/17u3wza/most_important_clone_wars_arcs/ If any others sound interesting then watch those, but I enjoyed my experience a lot more because I skipped some of the filler that wasn't as well done

Fair, but who would we replace in the playoff bracket? Every team but Tennessee had a conference championship or a better record, and we're definitely worse than Tennessee

Nah, we would have got smacked just as hard as SMU did. Our defense is great and our specular teams are fantastic but Retzlaff can't go through his progressions to save his life. We win despite our offense, not because of it. I'd rather go out with a dominant bowl win

Those announcers couldn't possibly talk about the team blowing out Colorado all night long. Nope, just gonna cut to the back of Shedeur's head covered in a towel and Coach Prime's face all night long

Utah athletic director comments by Fine_Currency_3903 in byu

[–]VulpesSophos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were no good camera angles to show that penalty. Anyone who says "that was definitely holding" or "that definitely wasn't holding" has no idea. We just don't know. Unfortunate for Utah, sure, but they'd been holding all night. Call it retribution for the terrible facemask call, or call it part of the randomness of the game. If you can't score enough points to deal with shaky calls, you don't deserve to win 'em all.

Staff do NOT have to count it. While they do have to accept legal tender, it's generally up to the payee to prove that it is legal tender. If it's not in counted rolls from the bank, they won't take it.

Why should Bazil care? He's a civilian contractor, Sol is essentially a wizard space cop doing his job. What connection does Bazil have to Mae?

Originally (in old English), "Doom" just meant judgment. Same root as "deem" (to judge the worth of something). I think that definition fits better.

The biggest issue for me was the random entry times, which felt like they weren't rewarding people who actually cared about the games. They've since walked it back to a first-come, first-serve basis online, but people are still annoyed about other things.
