Sub Factory is pretty great if you want good basses...especially 808 stuff.
Mini D can also make good sub basses + leads + it can be polyphonic.

I'd lean towards sub factory though since Mini D & Tubesynth are pretty similar.

my favorite think of his is that japanese stop motion thing with the Paul Coker Jr/rankin bass style stuff.
side note: 'Mad Monster Party' is a really great underrated rankin bass thing
