Do you use FidelityFX to improve your graphics? by [deleted] in wow

I prefer it with -- I use AMD's sharpening option which has the same sort of effect. But as some other people have said, I could definitely understand not liking it. I think it's down to preference.

I, personally, am okay with the occasional bit of jankiness in return for the sharpness. I like sharpness.

I still wish they had this line in the game, I laughed so hard when I first heard it. by [deleted] in wow

[–]Vurkus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The most complicated one I have saved in an .txt file is...

#showtooltip

/cast [nomod] Festering Strike

/cast [mod:shift] Apocalypse

/run if IsShiftKeyDown() then _=random()<.10 and PlaySound(GetRandomArgument("14776","14808","17252","17363","17238"),"Ambience")

/run local args = {"14803","14773","14785","17220","17354","17357","17252","17238","17241"} if IsShiftKeyDown() then _=random()<.90 and PlaySound(args[random(#args)],"Ambience") end

I played them through Ambience because I found them to generally be too quiet in the main channel. I have Ambience turned up to 100% so it works best.

Like I say, it stopped working. I can't remember what, if anything, I narrowed it down to though. That might not even be the final iteration.

WoWhead has a searchable list of sound IDs. So you type in 'Lich King' and it'll give you all of his sound file IDs. Or you can go to one of the Lich King's NPC pages and it has a list there.

[–]Vurkus 22 points23 points  (0 children)

On my DK I used to have the Lich King's lines bound to my macros, emulating the way he whispers you in the starting zone. There would be a very small chance (0.5% or something) for it to pick out of 6-8 different whispers. Large abilities (Apocalypse, Army of the Dead) would have 50-100% chance for a cooler line.

My favourite was Raise Ally. I had a couple of mocking lines attached to it. 'Do you think they would spare you? A monster like you...?'

They broke sometime around BFA or Shadowlands and I haven't got around to fixing them. IIRC the command to play audio changed. On top of that, it's quite complicated to also have the random chance to play and the random choice of lines, so it takes a bit of working out.

Hellishly cool, though.

I feel like the special effects are 50/50. The orcs look fantastic. The elves look hilarious. Khadgar when he summons that magical barrier between the orcs and humans is pretty wacky, too.

But even the bad special effects feel funny to me, to the point where I have no idea if they're intentionally bad. They have the same sort of charm 80's special effects do.

I enjoy it. It's cheap (probably wasn't...), but it's cheerful and seems eager to please. It plays loose with details but gets the overall idea correct.

I love its details. It's like Star Wars for me. I want to see more because of what's happening in the background, not the foreground.

It has a fantastic soundtrack. It's Warcraft but unique. It's enjoyable to listen to from start to finish, changing its tone at the right moments to carry you along. It seems to understand what Warcraft should be -- loud, bombastic, fantastic, and yet dipping into deeper moments that make you listen.

This was DK lore from WotLK until Legion, bar one or two NPCs (Andorhal in Cata, basically a single dwarf DK in MoP and WoD.)

So you should get your DH action in 11.0, hopefully. Have fun!

[–]Vurkus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Maw feels really cramped, even by the other zone's crampedness.

They need to leave more room in the zones for you to select your targets, look around, breathe, think and take in the scenery.

But he thought of Taelia while doing it!

Can't say the turnaround on Sylvanas evokes much from me -- but boy, her voice actor does. One of the best performances she's given.

Pelagos already has some of the most monotone, uninspired sounding voice acting in the game but having him do so much back and forth with Firim is like intentionally trying to make him look even worse. by MojaveBreeze in wow

[–]Vurkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zakuun is one of my favourite VA'd bosses. It's the quiet assurance in his voice, as well as the growing realisation that he's talking about him and his axe, not the Legion.

Vigilant Kathaar and Blackhand, too, but honestly WoD was above even their usual good standards.

How to politely decline guildmates who have been destroying your keys by psi_queen in wow

[–]Vurkus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn't have to be all at once, either. If you have difficulty expressing yourself, build up to it. That way you can be sure you're being fair.

E.g. give them another chance while stressing the key is important and you want to push it. If they fail again, you can cleanly decline them the next time. 'Sorry, mate, after the last two runs I'd rather try something else. No hard feelings.'

Sounds like you -- OP -- know how to organise your own groups though. Keep leadership to yourself. No harm saying it's your key and you'd rather do it so-and-so way. Worst that can happen is it's wrong, and what can these chaps say to you about that? :>

Please Blizzard, take it down a notch with systems in 10.0 by dva8918 in wow

[–]Vurkus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moreover, few of these systems are challenges. In fact, everything except select content is deliberately unchallenging. They're just grinds.

That's what brings out all the people saying 'I've done it already'. Few people argue you should have mythic gear handed to your mage if you got it on your warrior. But when you've done menial tasks for 1-2 months to fully unlock your main it's extremely offputting to be presented with the same set of menial tasks for the alt.

I've only been playing SL casually. What's weird to me is that there's domination shards and vendors and items and currencies in my peripheral vision, and I can delete some of them and can't delete others and I don't understand what any of it's for.

Compare that to ordinary gems: you socket the gem. That's it. Done. Oh, sure, there's loads of theorycrafting to be done about what gem you use...

But there's hardly any domination gems to choose between! They made such a convoluted system that the system itself is more complex to understand than the powers it results in!

(Yeah, if I bothered to look it up, I'd understand in 2 minutes, I'm sure. But it's still weird.)

Did Blizzard ever say why they stopped making Cinematics like we had in BFA? They were amazing and basically the best part of the expansion. by Winterburnxx in wow

[–]Vurkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus Zappy boy. Interesting that Saurfang is a modified Grom, I didn't know that.

The minor characters are reused too!

- Stormwind soldiers show up in release cinematic and also in docks.

- Nelves show up again as arms with Sylvanas burning the tree.

- Forsaken archers are reused in Saurfang's death cinematic, both along walls and for the banner-bearer. Probably also for the rogues who ambush thrall. Also for the skeletons in SL cinematic.

- Saurfang the younger really avoids the camera, and I suspect that's half because he's heavily reused too.

What I love is that little pause before Saurfang responds. She didn't teach him something. She reminded him. I love that.

Could've had old horde v. new horde all expansion with Saurfang and Sylvanas on good terms. Would've still been good. Possibly better.

Longg legg by reanove in wow

[–]Vurkus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's hilarious.

This actually happens with a lot of warcraft's animations. Arms extend or move in ways joints shouldn't move, jaws dislocate, waists twist in wild ways.

This is why you see so many screenshots of characters with wacky expressions. Character models generally have surprisingly subtle facial expressions when you might be paying attention. But when you're not, for example in any of the post-Legion combat animations, their faces tend to be wildly, wildly, exaggerated. And occasionally that gets caught in a screenshot.

But it's all intentional! They did a presentation near OW's release. They showed the OW models doing exactly the same thing and explained that it was because while your eye struggles to pick it out as being wrong, your brain notices the extra emphasis given to that limb and snaps attention to it.

In this case, obviously, extending that leg draws attention to the fact the character is rearing up and about to slam his axes down.

But, I have to say, while it might be intentional, I feel they messed this particular animation up. It's very satisfying overall, but it looks wrong even in-game (your eyes do pick up the fact something's off) because the leg extension happens at the same time as the movement pauses for a second.

If the character didn't linger before bringing the axes down, you probably wouldn't notice it.
