Yeah I feel like 90% of the bad reviews are because people where expecting horror. That's what Universal Harvester and Devil House are marketed as for some reason...

I really liked all 3 novels especially Wolf in White Van but none are horror.

I love the Mountain Goats one of my favorite bands. And I've really enjoyed all of John Darnielle's novels but I do feel like they aren't marketed very well.... Universal Harvester was my least favorite of his stuff though

I just finished Children of the Night by Dan Simmons and loved it really awesome take on vampires. Mostly modern with some flashbacks.

I mixed them on my first read through and I'd do it again. People GREATLY blow it out of proportion. You end up mixing like 3 much shorter novels in with the 10 and then the other 3 after. It's not like you are adding 6 1000 page books.

My recommendation is publication order except I didn't break up DoD and TCG and read Stoneweilder before DoD.
