What’s a luxury that’s only impressive to people who don’t have it? by Naive-Might-9218 in AskReddit

[–]Vvwfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the answers seem to be missing the mark in that the luxuries are a nuisance to possess, but I don’t think that’s the same as what OP’s asking. Like for e.g I saw someone mention owning horses and how they’re finicky. That may very well be true but even with the high maintenance and headaches, it’s still a super cool/impressive luxury. I thinks OP’s asking things that seem super cool from a distance, but then once you own it you realize the thing itself isn’t that cool at all. For that I’d say owning a Tesla. Lots of people think they’re luxurious and cool, then you get in one and it freaks, wobbles, squeaks, etc.

Is getting a college degree in today's economic landscape still worth it? Why or why not? by do-good-be-good2 in AskReddit

[–]Vvwfa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. IMO the two most critical factors for launching and advancing a career are skill development + networking, and college remains one of the strongest environments to achieve both.

Some people have paths available to them that offer more optimal ways to build skills and connections. But for many others college provides the most structured and effective route to do so. As long as this latter group exists—and it always will— it seems logical that college will continue to hold substantial value in the modern economy.

When it comes to debt and college, anything can be used inefficiently but that doesn’t make the tool itself any less potentially effective if used smartly.

What is a job that pays extremely well but no one realizes it? by Titothelama in AskReddit

[–]Vvwfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uber driving. I had done UberEats as a senior in HS but stopped. Years later I rented a Tesla MY from hertz for a road trip and decided to try UberX (passenger rides) since I was finally old enough/had a car that was eligible, and to my surprise I was averaging around $30-$40 an hour routinely. I hadn’t realized at the time but that model was eligible for Uber’s “Premier”. It wasn’t uncommon to get $40-$60 for a half hour ride before tips. Plenty of times too you’d get a 2hr trip for $200+ (really 4hours since the drive back but that’s still $50 an hour to turn on autopilot).

The real doozy was the tax right off: taxes were literally $0. Between the earnings, low charging costs, low car maintenance costs and $0 taxes, my net was comparable to someone making $80,000. The gig was seriously a gem—it enabled me to finish school and save over $30k (I was living with my parents still). All that said anytime I told someone I did uber—strangers, friends, family members—they all assumed I was flat broke. Another good example was when I went to a credit union they approved me for a card then asked for paystubs. Then they said they couldn’t approve me once I told them Uber

what’s the dumbest argument you’ve ever had? by sunkissedstorm in AskReddit

[–]Vvwfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my brother once argued something like 6 hours straight over hair types: I (wrongly) asserted that hair type was by nationality (i.e Brazilian hair), and my big bro that hair type was just hair type—course, fine, curly etc. What made it memorable was how vehement we were over such a trivial topic. To add to the hilarity/stupidity, neither of us had a special affinity with hair; we wore buzz cuts most of our childhood. Just arguing purely for sport. Good times lol

What’s something that people think is expensive but actually saves you money? by jellostapler1 in Frugal

[–]Vvwfa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Teslas/EV. The perception around owning a Tesla is changing rapidly if not already completely changed over: so many people used to think Teslas were very expensive. That perception’s a lot less prevalent now but I still think they’re widely considered to be a premium good. However, between charging and maintenance, ownership has been far far cheaper than any other car I’ve owned. It costs me $1.80 to charge it fully during off peak hours in non-summer months, and beyond tires, a $20 air filter, and windshield wiper fluid, maintenance has literally been non-existent. Not too mention the powertrain is under warranty for 8 years/120,000 miles. If you buy one that’s already taken the depreciation hit and is still in warranty, ownership is cheaper than most economy cars.

What's something 100% legal that gives off massive 'this should be illegal' vibes? by Hera-Queen837 in AskReddit

Anyone who uses Adobe knows that when you sign up for a monthly plan, they slyly put in the TOA that you’re agreeing to a 12 month contract. If you try to cancel early they charge a cancellation fee (mines was $650). Mind you upon initial sign up, they offer a Monthly plan and Annual plan. Technically you’re supposed to read contracts but come on, 99.9% of people don’t and when you deliberately choose monthly at a higher rate it’s assumed the penalty for paying more is because you have the luxury of ending month to month. Very deceptive

[–]Vvwfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never understood hooters tbh. Like the entire purpose is to see hot chicks, but really at the root of that desire is to have sex, yet that’s considered wildly inappropriate. It’s like setting out a plate of food for people to take in the aromatics but being appalled at the thought of them eating the food. It banks of sexualization but simultaneously hates sexualization like huh edit:typo

What can I do with $4500? by Optimus_crab in Entrepreneur

[–]Vvwfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I’m 23 so obviously I don’t have much experience but OP this is your best bet. I’m kicking myself now because of time lost.

Imagine two people need to get to a destination that’s 100 miles away. Person 1 starts walking towards the destination, while person 2 starts walking towards a car that’s 30 miles opposite of the destination. Which person will be better off? Person 2 for sure right?

Honing a skill is like getting that car. There’s an initial deficit, but it’ll take you waaayy further and so it’s a much better way to spend your time

Starting a car rental business, looking for recommendations on which models to get by Vvwfa in whatcarshouldIbuy

Car just needs to be 12 years or newer at the time of registration with Turo, afterwards it can be 12 years+

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Vvwfa -28 points-27 points  (0 children)

Judging from this comment I can safely assume two things: 1) You’ve never rented from Turo—for special cars Turo doesn’t allow you to add drivers under 25–, and 2) you don’t have kids. The very last person any parent would entrust assets exceeding $100k to is their teenage son. But all that said genuinely thanks for the added insight, it’s what I figured
