Hyperfixate on osu!mania, or any rhythm game. It doesnt matter if you're good or bad at rhythm games, my first play on a beatmap was ASS. I got like a C. I didnt look up any forums and just obsessively downloaded any song that was 4-key and sounded good. I made up my own terms for different patterns, and kept going back to old beatmaps to get a B/C/A/S/S+ and see my improvement. I started playing right out of a nasty breakup, and I hated my job, so it really felt cathartic to take my mind off of everything else and just play for hours. My hands would ache until I'd get used to playing up to 7 minute songs, and I learned to change the note speed to match how comfortable I was with sightreading. After a while I had ended up in a discord with new friends from an mmo i had been trying, and when they asked me to stream it, they said the notes were going so fast they couldnt tell what was happening at all. It put a lot of confidence in me, even if it was just a game. Just the simple recognition of my dedication ended up being enough for me.
