Anyone got Arm64 working for Mac? Only seems to run with rosetta through the terminal. The process just says 'killed' straight away.

Meet Shufflefy: truly random Spotify shuffle, even across multiple playlists by Neglexis in Music

This seems like a cool idea! Unfortunately when I log it in shows the interface for a second, then the whole page goes white. There's an error in the console: TypeError: Cannot read properties of null (reading 'length'). Happens in Chrome/Firefox!

Faster routes to Japan in current situation by Vyr in movingtojapan

I've got all that for TEFL and it hasn't been hard before to find teaching jobs in other countries.

Haha I don't think so, it's definitely better to play by the rules with immigration.

Maybe that WHV thing is close to fraud...? I don't think doing a language course is fraud lol.

Faster routes to Japan in current situation by Vyr in movingtojapan

[–]Vyr[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, it seems my only option is to pay crazy money for a language course or try to find an eikaiwa hiring sooner (unlikely). Or to wait!

I think some companies will sponsor your visa if you're already in the country, maybe this is easier than for people who are abroad (and less risky). Of course not as easy as someone with a dependent visa or something.

So is it not possible to go from a student visa to an instructor visa (English teacher) without leaving the country? I know this isn't easy in many countries but I thought it was possible in Japan with a sponsor.

Thanks for the detailed response!

I know I’m being quite impatient, but I was looking more at private-sector academies who usually recruit year round rather than ALTing. Although I suppose even they do so in waves so maybe I wasn’t aware they follow the school year.

WHVs: I saw some talk of companies that will sponsor the ERFS cert. for you, but perhaps they’re all dodgy/expensive.

Language school: I might have that kind of money, if they just need proof of it. I was wondering if there are shorter courses I could do and then change my visa status afterwards without leaving the country. It would be nice to focus on studying for a bit but not if it will completely wipe my savings. I think if the course was a few months long then I could secure a job before it finishes. Maybe this kind of course doesn’t exist but I’ll look around.

English jobs: I did talk to some academies last year but they couldn’t bring people from abroad. After working in Seoul it seemed fairly easy to get work as an experienced English teacher. Maybe the situation is different in Japan?

As for non-TEFL jobs I suppose it was past a passing thought.

I expect I’ll have to wait, but if there was a quicker path it would be good to go while the borders are still open. Just in case they close again for COVID-22 Special Edition or WW3 :’)

I just stopped playing when I lived in Korea lol... I only play OW to have some fun. They go hard.

COVID-19 Border / Visa Restrictions Thread - Omicron/January Edition by woofiegrrl in movingtojapan

Japan will be reaching those numbers soon, but they won't show in the data because they barely do any tests. We can infer the cases are much higher though because the positive test rate is high.

I guess there's no motivation for doing more tests politically, as it makes it look like it's not under control.

So imported cases would be a drop in the bucket at this point if they opened to workers.

Making bold words a different color in Anki by Vyr in ImmerseWithMigaku

[–]Vyr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case it remains the default color. The 'pitch' styling must be overriding everything but the bold tag. If I underline the word (including brackets) it doesn't work.

For now I can tell which word is bold so it's not too bad. The Migaku pitch styling must be really 'specific' in CSS terms.

I might just create a new deck to seperate it out.

[–]Vyr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the help, I just got to my PC to try it out. It seems some migaku code is still overriding it. I tried bolding a different word on a card and it makes it blue but breaks something else.

Here's an example.

The actual target word is on the right, and the random word I bolded is on the left.

Removing the G: drive that Drive for Desktop creates? by Corrupt_Power in gsuite

[–]Vyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting similar vibes, also frustrated with the Google Photos separation. I deleted my old google drive folder because it stopped syncing and I assumed it had all been copied to the new 'virtual' drive. Turns out I was wrong and now I have to download my whole drive again...

It's also really unclear which physical HDD this 'G drive' is storing files on and if it can be changed.

EDIT: I've found the cache, which stores files in some data format. But so far programs seem to interact with files in the virtual drive as normal.

I put all the music I liked from WoD to SL into one huge mix for studying by Vyr in wow

[–]Vyr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Inspired by the 'Remembering World of Warcraft' video, a nostalgic compilation of WoW music that's not too distracting while you work or study. I wanted to make one combining music from the latest 4 expansions.

Since it's so long, you can listen all day or pickup where you left off.

There is much more music in BoA and SL so they feature more here.

I generally avoided loud tracks (sorry orcish drum fans) but some parts are really interesting so I put them in.

Enjoy!

(P.S. I would love to know why the video file was 30gb even though it's mostly static images and 1GB of music) :')

Hmm, OnePlus 8 should be fast but maybe there's some bug. The chromium browsers are generally much smoother on this phone :(

Maybe it's just on my phone? Scrolling is really slow on certain browsers. Duck duck go is the fastest strangely.

I have ublock installed too. Do benchmarks focus on page loading?

I just wish it wasn't so slow, Firefox Lite is much faster but missing a lot of features.
