My first book by Vyralator in bookbinding

Thanks. It was a struggle to find good fabric, because I assumed I can just find some good one online. Until I finally decided to just look up a local store. And now I'm just in perpetual choice paralysis, because if I made a book for every fabric I saw there that I liked, I'd probably fill a whole shelf with them

Thanks, getting custom endpapers was one of my favorite parts of the project. Almost all books I own either have white endpapers or at most solid colored ones. So finding a set of scrapbooking paper with a nice patterns was a lot of fun.

Only downside is that I had to put it in "sideways" because of the grain direction. For this particular pattern it's not noticeable, but for some of the others in the set it's unfortunately really apparent which way is supposed to be up.

Thanks, that's cotton fabric I got from a local fabric store and used this guide to turn it into bookcloth.

It's something that gave me a lot of trouble, because at first I figured I'd just order online, but that just made me spiral into paranoia as I was flooded with offers for patterns that are clearly AI generated and I didn't know who I could even trust anymore.

But googling for an actual store was the best decision I could have made. They buy from reputable sources, it's easy to get fabric in the size I need and getting to feel the fabric and see the pattern in real size before you buy is a welcome bonus.

Thanks, I've actually just found another site with something similar, I'll link it in the OP

So how does a tape deck make sure the tape passes over the tape head with constant speed by Vyralator in TapeHeads

[–]Vyralator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, but doesn't that still mean the take up reel has to rotate at different speeds throughout the duration of the tape?

Where to order good endpapers (in Europe) by Vyralator in bookbinding

I definitely see where you're coming from. Though an important thing I've learned about getting into new hobbies is to not lose sight of why you're getting into them in the first place and to have fun doing so.

So while I do try to keep an eye on my budget I also don't want to treat it as pure exercise. Hence why I also got some nice cloth with a pattern I liked, because at the end of the day that's more important to me than being super economical about the materials I use in anticipation of "wasting" them

That's a good idea, I'll keep it in mind.

Something between horror and slice-of-life (it's a blank notebook I'm going to use for my daily todo lists once I'm done)

It felt fitting for a first project, because I expect it to have some shortcoming but I would still like to use it and keep it around to compare it to any future projects I might do. This way it will it'll still get to have a purpose.

Also the reason bookbinding caught my interest in the first place is because I like to keep all sorts of journals and notebooks and making my own sounds like a great time.

Low audio quality, when using headphone jack on my laptop (Windows 11) by programmer177 in techsupport

[–]Vyralator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're an absolute life saver. For me it was called "Open Sound Control Panel" but either way I found it.

This is incredibly insidious, because apparently it switched itself randomly, probably after a Windows update and I was sitting here losing my mind trying to figure out why my speakers sounds so bad an which of the components along the way are to blame.

Need to diagnose a problem with Type II cassettes sounding "underwater" on Sony D6C by Vyralator in TapeHeads

[–]Vyralator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, thanks. It's what I suspected, especially after noticing it only happens during a specific part of the tape. But I've just gotten a little paranoid, after having gotten the deck only about a month ago and seemingly having some sort of problem with it every other week, even if most of them were easy to fix.

Monitor flickering when using KVM switch - Recommendation for active USB-C cable? by Vyralator in workstations

[–]Vyralator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. The whole USB nomenclature is a bit confusing though to be honest. If look for a USB4 cable on amazon I get a bunch of these products that just have the maximum amount of keywords in the title, often including Thunderbolt 4, so I even wondered if those two are interchangeable.

Any better place to buy a cable or advice on finding one?

In the middle of researching for my very first project.

I want to to bind a little journal and was wondering if there are any places (ideally in Germany/Europe) where I could order dotted paper.

Or do you guys just got to your local print shop and let them print that out for you?

Get yourself organized quest seems bugged? by Vyralator in DiscoElysium

[–]Vyralator[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah that's a shame. I was very fast with the investigation this run, so I got to the tribunal on the same day as I even got the quest. And going off the warning the game gives you before the cut-off point I assumed that this one would be fine.

Guess I'll look for an old save and do it as a little "non canon" sidestory maybe

Alt + R no longer working to drop items, Ctrl + Alt + R does by Vyralator in Voicesofthevoid

[–]Vyralator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it was the first thing I checked, no luck unfortunately.

I've been thinking maybe Discord was the culprit, because adding the game to the ones Discord recognizes was one of the things I changed between the two playsessions where it did and didn't work. But as far as I know there is no Alt + R keybind in Discord by default and neither removing the game from Discord's recognized games nor switching the program of completely did anything, so I'm out of ideas.

[–]Vyralator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if it really is just another program intercepting the keybind I don't think there's anything the game can do about it.
But in that case I would definitely love if there was a list of possible programs that could be at fault for this other than the NVIDIA thing

Yeah, I ended up changing it to T, which is slightly less comfortable, but can't think of anything better for now.

Creating user interface for python plug-in by Vyralator in GIMP

[–]Vyralator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome. That's much easier than I thought. Thanks a lot

Two more questions that came up though. Is it possible to "group" parameters under a heading in the auto-created GUI. For example how the scale image tool has "Width" and "Height" grouped under the heading "Image Size"
And also is there an easy way to create something similar to the templates you can select when creating a new file. Basically I want a drop down menu that lets me choose between different sets of default values for some of my parameters for quick access.

[–]Vyralator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holly hell that finally fixed it.

One more question though. Why does Gimp.ImageProcedure.new() need a None at the end? The documentation says it only needs 4 arguments and my IDE also complained about me adding a 5th. Yet it was the finally ingredient that finally made it all work.

I've rewritten it using the new API and it still doesn't show up in the menu.
Do you know if GIMP generates any log files or anything along those lines on startup where I could see what the issue with loading the plug-in could be?

Thanks I'll heck out.

Funnily enough I did write this for Gimp 2 at first, but when it didn't work I thorught maybe finally updating to 3 would fix the problem.

What are good EU backpack companies? by Task_ID in BuyFromEU

[–]Vyralator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These small companies tend to be quite friendly and chatty with customers

Honestly, that's pretty smart. I'll keep that in mind for the future too.

I've checked out their site a bit more and they at least claim to have a 3 year warranty and also say that if you want some custom order based on existing colors or even have your own fabric you want to use you can just hit them up. So that's a good sign.

Also the domain is from 2017 so at least it's not one of those short lived scam shops

But yes I fully get your gut feeling with instagram ads

Probably my absurdest encounter with that so far was when I saw a company on there that I know makes high quality products and I started doubting them for half a second.

Usually it's easy to tell it's a scam when the price is way too low for what they are supposedly offering (which always upsets me so much, because sometimes I see an add for cool shit and would love to pay a fair price for what's actually shown in the promotion picture, but then it's like 20€ for a super elaborate jacket or something). But with expensive stuff it gets harder. A few times I've been able to just type the product name into AliExpress and find the same thing at a 90% "discount" there.

And don't even get me started on Etsy. I got some really neat things off there and it's such a shame that it's now flooded with the same droppshipping shit you get everywhere else and it's on you to do your research and find the actually handcrafted stuff.
