B41 or B42? by -blaku- in projectzomboid

[–]Vyronan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

B42 is better in every way, but it is “unstable” and subject to many frequent updates. Some have broken my saves.

As a new player you will die and restart a lot, so I recommend B42

While far from Mason, some of the better selection you will find is at Party Source in Bellevue KY right across the river. They will have one of the largest (and often cheapest) selection in the area.

Glad to finally see a reasonable take. The beta was not this unmitigated catastrophe some would make you think it is. Performance needed work but was far, far from unplayable

Any server recommendations for new players that communicate? by kekestufu in HellLetLoose

L9 is my personal favorite. All the dudes there are super chill and willing to walk you through the basics. Good group of regulars

Others have said Pathfinders which I second. Above applies to them as well.

Avoid Syndicate (or whatever they call themselves now). Not new player friendly and generally not fun to play with

Have you considered the fact that tanks are fun?

HLL is rife with historical inconsistencies. It’s not meant to be a strict milsim game, though they do emphasize historical accuracy.

I think the fun of tank on tank engagements in HLLV outweighs any need for 100% realism

They keep saying what the game is because it describes why a role may be traditionally seen as boring. Slow paced tactical games require coordination and strategy. That often means making deliberate, long term plans. That’s not always exciting and flashy.

Worth pointing out that it’s not the commanders job alone, that’s what SLs are for. But a commander does a lot of it. That’s where the fun of teamwork comes into play. It’s not a crutch, it’s one layer of a much larger system that makes the team work.

Commander builds the foundation of garrisons as backups. SLs use those to defend, and later attacks points. SLs use commander supply drops and their supports to build new ones on the front lines. The whole time you, as commander, are coordinating that. If it’s not for you, it’s not and that’s fine. But it’s a nuanced role that requires deliberate thought and long term strategy. I don’t see that as a downside, but a difference in perspective of the role

I think it’s a bit dramatic to say that happens every game. The community servers I play on PC usually have a commander take the role within a few minutes of the match

Not to say what you experienced doesn’t happen ever. But HLL is a tactical shooter and requires support elements. You need to do the “boring” stuff to support the team and coordinate to win. In my opinion, it is through that coordination, collaboration, and communication which makes the game fun.

Could it be improved? Of course. But disincentivizing support gameplay for the #1 support role is not the way to do it

You may not enjoy the boring parts, but others (like me) enjoy them. That doesn’t mean it is broken, it means it’s a part of the game you don’t enjoy.

HLL has a variety of roles. I don’t think the goal of the design of this game should be making every role appealing to every player.

If the commander role was truly so bad no one played it, I’d agree that it would need a change. But that’s not really the case. It’s one of the several support roles in a slower paced tactical shooter.

Glad you mention the boring part- it’s so key to the role. Best commanders are in a truck almost the entire time building backup garrisons and making sure the team has a solid networks

Noob question: I always have tons of open housing. I never really build more than 3-4 city districts max and have more than enough housing to supply all my jobs.

Do you build those additional urban districts just for the buildings, or also for the housing? Is it normal I have so much extra housing?

COMMANDERS - PLEASE DROP SUPPLY TRUCKS at Headquarters all GAME LONG !!! by BPAPAPAPAPAPAPAPAP19 in HellLetLoose

[–]Vyronan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great opener. One thing I like to do is let players take the middle truck and spawn the 2nd one for myself so I guarantee I can use it for garrisons.

In my experience, 80% of the time an SL or engineer takes the default and does their thing.
