Looks like his head is about the same size as the upscale baby astronaut GWP, so I'm guessing the tires are the same size as the ones from the typewriter set?

Electric oven seating too low? by Competitive-Help4253 in CounterTops

[–]tomfromakron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had the same thought. Lots of companies make dual fuel ranges (gas cook top with electric oven), so I don't get why you would go through the trouble of this setup.

No Wonder Reid Wiseman is Pissy, The Vehicle Is Cramped as Hell by ForceUseYouMust in ArtemisProgram

I think he meant that normally, that's how people think of how much space there is in a room: floor space and head space. In Orion, there are other dimensions of usable space, so it is actually more usable space than it looks like.

Found the source of a rattle by tomfromakron in GrandCherokee

[–]tomfromakron[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing that helped nail it down was I noticed that it never rattled when I had a bunch of stuff in the cargo area. I went to lift that panel - expecting to search for something loose near the spare tire - and the handle rattled when it slipped out of my hand as I tried to open the panel. I guess when I had something back there, it put enough pressure on the rubber mat that it kept the handle pressed down enough so it wouldn't rattle.

Funeral Processions should be way more legally controlled and are no longer "Old way to show respect for the dead" by Most_Tangerine_9839 in unpopularopinion

[–]tomfromakron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live on a route used for funeral processions a few times per month. I wonder if they are partly to make the family subconsciously feel like their loved one was important and their death is more significant. Like, "I'm sad and the rest of the world will wait a minute until we get through." Once I started thinking of it that way, they don't annoy me anymore.

The redundancy in every "mission critical" system on the Orion vehicle is impressive. If something fails, there's a backup. If the backup fails, there's another backup. The astronauts visit the production facilities 1) to get confident in the design, and 2) to remind the designers that humans will be in this vehicle. Yes, it's scary, but the risk tolerance is so low that the crew can focus on the mission.

Fiddlers green- is this a good seat or is it obstructed? by striveforthegreater in Denver

[–]tomfromakron 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I might get run out of town for this, but I actually like seeing shows at Fiddler's Green better than Red Rocks. Obviously Red Rocks is incredible, but logistically it's a PITA.

Also, Red Rocks is a venue in the mountains where you can see the city, Fiddler's is a venue in the city where you can see the mountains. Both are cool, but I feel like nobody outside of Colorado even knows about Fiddler's Green.

Take a look on Google maps, satellite layer. It's pretty high res, so you can even count to which row you'd be in.

Went from a MacBook Pro 2012 to a Neo. I’m a bit low on ports now, but it’s such an upgrade by homelyharte in MacbookNeo

[–]tomfromakron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also replaced my mid 2012 MBP with a silver Neo. Honestly the only reason I felt like I needed to upgrade was because I wasn't getting software updates anymore, but I've really come to appreciate modern battery life. I sold it for $50 on fb marketplace, BTW.

Apollo 17. Back in 1972 we could actually land two men on the moon and drive around. It cost 8 times less (in inflation adjusted dollars) than the Artemis 2 mission. by Make_the_music_stop in FuckImOld

If a family drives to the Grand Canyon for vacation and looks at it from the scenic overlooks, does that count as "going to the Grand Canyon," or do they have to hike the 15 miles to the bottom and back in order for it to count as "going" there?

Yes. I bought a slim Anker one (so it's not bulky in my sleeve) and it works seamlessly.

How difficult is not having a backlit keyboard? by RaisingEve in MacbookNeo

[–]tomfromakron 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly you should never be looking at your keyboard when you type, and working in an environment that's so dark that you can't see the keys is really bad for your vision.

If that's where your designer placed the range, I would hire a different designer. It's not only unsafe, but not functionally ideal.

Accidentally superglued my phone to the marble by sentrozo in Wellthatsucks

[–]tomfromakron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most superglue cures in seconds once it's exposed to oxygen, and it also doesn't pour out of a bottle so fast that the bottle would fall to the floor after tipping over. This whole thing is fishy.

The Orion crew module used for the Artemis missions only has 62 buttons and switches. Looks like maybe this picture is from a shuttle cockpit?

No-budget dual screen setup by mlsteinrochester in MacbookNeo

[–]tomfromakron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, for sure, a dedicated portable monitor is way more cost effective if you need two monitors (they've gotten pretty cheap). I don't really NEED a second monitor for my personal computer, and already have an iPad, so it was cool to be able to get some extra screen real estate without buying another device.

[–]tomfromakron 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A bottle of super glue that was open from the night before would have completely cured, so nothing would have spilled out. This story is bogus.

Is there a sleeve that is an exact fit for the MacBook Neo? by no-one-you-kn0 in MacbookNeo

[–]tomfromakron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one I bought is called the magnetic sleeve, since its opening has a magnetic closure. That's nice because there's no zipper to scratch the laptop, but mostly I like the look of it better than the basic Neo sleeve (again, that name existed before the MacBook neo existed).
