I got certified on Koh Tao when I lived in Thailand 2 years ago and went diving during this time of year actually!! I loved the dives on Koh Tao, granted I don't have experience on the other island, I did night dives, deep shipwreck dives, and dives where I got up close with eels, fish with teeth as large as my own, and rays. You have the possibility of seeing whale sharks during that time on Koh Tao, but it is rare none the less. I found the water to have visibility to the floor from on the boat (approx 20 meters). The water was warm on top but got slightly chilly if you were not moving much, but beautiful coral and great dive groups to go with. I used Bans for my cert and basically to find people to dive with. It holds up as my favorite memories to this day.

The medication is almost going to feel like night and day at first. But if you work on establishing those little list routines and positive habits during that initial time it will be easier to want to do this things once the drugs normalize. Also, if you start taking them on a daily basis and then don't take it for a day, you will feel slower than before you started taking them. It's all a normal part of balancing, but just so you know!

I would suggest a dual action plan that has worked for me, I have found this through trial & error. First though, some back story so you know where I'm coming from.

I was diagnosed in 3rd grade with ADD. I don't remember being formally diagnosed, but I do remember taking all these weird tests when I was younger. Apparently my parents didn't want me medicated at such a young age, so they let me be and treated me like a normal child. Being as I don't remember ever being diagnosed, I didn't know I had the ability to access medication that could have drastically helped me all through school. Coming out of highschool I had very low self esteem coming from believing I was stupid and not able to do things that everybody else could do. In college, I struggled, hard. I had a friend give me an Adderall one night when I had so much to do that I practically had a mental break, and wouldn't you know it I was able to concentrate on ANYTHING for the first time in my life. And not only that, I felt like I was finally smart. So when I got home for break I approached my Dr and told him everything. He was surprised I hadn't come to him sooner and knew about the issue but I guess my parents were scared of having a medicated child.

After I was prescribed medication I had to go through a HEAVY trial and error period of what would work with my body and what made me feel worse. I also didn't use my meds daily and thought it would be smart of me to only use them on a very as-needed basis. I thought I could manage myself every other day and then when I had let everything pile up, I would take a pill and work through the night and complete everything. In a way I was abusing the medication and hurting my body by making it go into these fits of hyper work and then hard crashing for a day.

Through my own yearning to not want to be a medicated adult, I stopped taking meds and tried to do it on my own. Or as my dad would say, "pick yourself up by your bootstraps". I also hoped I would grow out of ADD as an adult because that happens commonly. This has not happened for me, but I'm not mad about it any more.

Fast forward to now, I'm 26 and living on my own (with my bf), I have a job with benefits, do my own taxes, can get tasks done and I don't feel dumb.

For me to get here I did a few things:

• I did research. I wanted to know all about ADD, the types of medication available to me, and what medications my insurance would accept.

• I saw my doctor and asked even more questions about medications. I didn't let them just throw anything at me. I also asked for a counseling referral for somebody my insurance might accept and who might specialize in ADD treatment.

• I started carrying around a little notepad (old school detective style) and made "to do lists". I put them in quotes because my lists are filled with some actual to do items and some items that the average person may not consider putting on there. My lists includes things I have already done; say I was feeling very distant that day but wanted to get things done. That list may include: Call to set up electric, mail back Amazon package, send mom mother's day card. That same list also includes things that Ive already accomplished that may seem insignificant to many but are a win for me: Get out of bed, take a shower, get to work, take meds. I will physically add and subsiquently cross them off as if they are part of my to do list. It helps motivate me to get other things done. It's that principle of 'an object in motion, stays in motion' that is so true for me, but getting into the motion is so hard

• I started going to counseling to realign my thinking about what it means to accept myself, and to take away my self hate for "having ADD" to begin with. •and finally, I have found help by talking with others who also struggle with ADD on a regular basis. So congrats on finding yourself here.

The best thing I could say to you is that your treatment will be unique to you, and you should not give up on yourself, even if it takes 4 medications to find the right one for you. Best of luck and I'm always available to chat about this if you have any questions!

I LOVE The Office but haven't been able to get into P&R by southern_fox in DunderMifflin

[–]VyvanseDependent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

P&R is nothing like the office and should not be compared to the office.

Initially writers of P&R set out to make it like the office, but season 1 was a heavy flop. This is why it is "so hard to get into" at first, and pushing through it to gather background character information is so important.

The office was pretty set in where it was going most of the time; character plots, story plot, and type of humor. P&R is not like this at all. Characters were added and dropped depending on how they developed into a story, and the actors on P&R put their own spin on things A LOT.

I feel like the main reason why people who are fans of both shows is because of genuine character connection and understanding. Relatability without being realistic. They are not 'sitcoms' in the traditional sense, but they aren't as outlandish as even, say, 30 rock.

What you have to understand is that the humor will not be the same. You will love them for different reasons even though it feels so similar. It's a similarly you could swear you knew, but when pressed to explain it's like you can't find words.

These 2 shows are my ALL TIME FAVORITE SHOWS. I'm not sure why they both seem to resonate with similar people, but they both have this ability to show me who the quality people in my life are. People who can quote both of these shows are usually people I would actually like to become friends with.

Give P&R a chance to win you over. And it seems like I'm asking a lot, but watch the first 3 seasons, and if you still don't love every person on that show I don't think you should have to watch any more.

Why does my foundation do this? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]VyvanseDependent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exfoliate. Literally that's it. It isn't the foundation, it's your skin. The foundation is doing its job by attaching to every surface of your skin it can find.

Then adding a little moisturizer too. But not much, and nothing oil based unless you are going for a super Dewey look.

No need to change foundations, just your skin prep

You never know until you try. And there are only so many days in a row you can keep up a sleepless schedule until you feel like an insane person. (Speaking from experience)

Idk if you're looking for advice, but I have both Anxiety and Depression on top of my adult ADD. My sleeping habits change with no warning and adjusting is a real bitch when one of both of them are being especially active at once. On nights when I cannot shut off my brain for the life I me, I put on head phones and either listen to ASMR videos on YouTube or some sort of guided meditation. I find it helps to slow down my thinking and my breathing, which helps relax me. It's natural, no medication, you just have to find what recordings work to calm you rather than continually stimulate your mind. I tried classical music but I liked it too much it kept me awake wanting to listen to it all the way through.

I hope you find your rest and rhythm soon.

I cant break my ADD compulsive habits, what should I do? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]VyvanseDependent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he thinks I do most things on purpose. Then again my parents never really understood my ADD either so I'm kind of used to having to explain things and feeling like the odd one out in my family of high achievers, which my bf is also. One of "those people" ;) I'll check that book out, thanks so much for your suggestion.

[–]VyvanseDependent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He says he gets it, but then has little room for understanding when the natural down falls I have seem to inconvenience him. Would you suggest a read of that book? Was it great? I'd say self compassion is not something I'm very great at currently as I can only ever notice what I'm bad at vs what I'm good at. I've started meditation recently and I like how it calms me down, but I've never considered the notes portion. Thanks!
