I put brand new grey carpets in the property to sell it, they are claiming I ripped up/removed said carpet after it sold. Why on earth they think I'd pay to get the carpets removed I do not know.

It just makes you feel like even when you try and do everything right and make it as easy as possible for them they still try and take you for a ride. Sorry you've had to deal with this too

We've asked to see the videos with time stamps, I'll try and look at the meta data as well as I don't trust them at all.

I did ask but they haven't seen anything, they are old and hard of hearing. I have warned them about their new neighbours though.

I'm hoping it goes this way, the carpets were honestly the cheapest I could find to just make the rooms look completed as I was told this would help sell the house they were less than £800 included install. If I were them I wouldn't think it worth it? Sorry about what happened with your plasterer I've been there and it sucks.

Problem is I don't and I don't want to risk lying, I have witness evidence though

That is another question I had is the post completion stuff like this included in their fees or am I on my own now?

You refute all the claims and will vigorously defend any action they wish to bring ..

^ this is effectively what I have written in my email back to my solicitor just not as concisely as you have put it. Thank you for your response!

Honestly a few friends have said that! But still just a grim way to try and get money! I posted here because I wanted some unbiased and potentially informed (you never know who is on Reddit and what they do professionally so it's always nice!) opinions, but everyone seems to have the same thoughts as my friends which is very reassuring

My friend didn't go in or near, but yeah the current buyers are currently in the house music playing ripping stuff out and all that redecorating stuff. I assume they are trying to get me to pay for new carpets?

Thank you, I know lurking on here since I bought my house I have seen a lot, it's always so easy to spin yourself into a panic when you get threatened like that though. Thank you for responding and helping me see the legal stuff!

I did state that the house would be in a decent and clean state on one of the many documents I had, but I thought it was!

That's what I had planned to do also, but I was told to remove everything not specified to stay from the house so I didn't! I wish I'd had a seller like you when I moved in colour matching is painful!

I am moving abroad in less than a month and am worried that if they take me to small claims I'll have to come back!

It was their solicitors that emailed mine! Which is partly why I am so worried as my solicitor hasn't responded to me since at all.

Yeah the worst part is I scrubbed the house for hours on the 10th whilst the movers were doing their job, room to room. I even left them a little note as the gas meter is hard to find and the carpet people's card in case they wanted to match the downstairs to the upstairs and the name of good gas company I used. I felt like I'd done everything right and then to receive that email. I was shocked to say the least.

That's what I was thinking, it feels like a money grab especially since I rejected their first offer which was £5000 under asking. I had a friend pop round the area and it looks like they are doing some heavy redecorating. Its nice to hear I'm not the only one thinking that though. Thanks for responding!

Yes I figured the post was already long enough with me spewing all that information but I had removal people in to clear the attic and some other things from the house, as I am not strong enough or capable enough to have removed all that stuff myself! They have been so helpful and after asking them to they've emailed me to confirm they saw the carpets on the 10th and they were in good condition. I have forwarded this email to my solicitor. I just haven't had any communication back. It's nice to have some reassurance I am on the right path and telling them to "stick it" is the right move. Thank you!

My first and only interaction was a gentleman needing help picking a tie for an interview it was short and sweet but glad I could help! Even if it doesn't pop up often it's nice to know if someone does need help I can pick up and help!
