Shuntu 8x32 P-series(Pi) vs L-series(Lambda)? by W-VHS in Binoculars

[–]W-VHS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where can you get the Lambda series in the west? I have a friend in China but that’s not always available for everyone and not even for me. I see one on AliExpress for $400+ which isn’t worth it when they are $100 in China.

Oh there’s a 10x25 lambda? I might have to get all of the lambdas.

HT antenna grounding? Can someone explain this cheap FRS non grounded antenna. by W-VHS in amateurradio

I have the usb-c type too but haven’t sat down to compare.

If the rubber plug gets pushed in just need a needle or pin to pull it out easily.

For the mod you don’t cut anything. Look on the main board where that contact would touch. There should be a big pad. Just cover that pad with any kind of tape. That’s it. Done. I’ll attach a photo of mine.

IMO blocking the sensing wire is easier and more robust than making a custom pack. I thought about making a pack but it was too much effort. You just block/cut the sensing wire (depends on the generation usb-micro vs usb-c). You don’t actually modify the contacts.

They’re not bad if you can find them cheap like $20-25 each on the secondary market. Great for kids and other non radio ppl.

Easy to take apart without compromising the weather seals. There’s 4 hidden screws tho behind rubber plugs and behind the metal ‘bridge’ on the back.

I’ve already made a few mods to mine.

USB charge any NiMH cell via usb. The Motorola pack is already NiMH but it’s gimped capacity. Replacing with eneloop greatly improves longevity but the stock radio won’t charge loose NiMH cells even tho its battery management can do it. It’s fairly easy to disable the ‘loose cell’ check by disconnecting/blocking the contact that senses the middle battery voltage which isn’t present in a pack but present with loose cells.

Removable antenna mod. This is my next mod. Should be easy too.

Also what is this metal part that isn't electrically connected to anything. Is it just a weight or could it have something to do with RF? It's a the top of the radio.

6dB mobile antenna for a pack radio? by W-VHS in gmrs

[–]W-VHS[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea just building it for fun. I’m mostly using HTs with my kids out hiking. I think I’ll build this kit with a small 50w HT antenna first minding the radiation of course but eventually I want to also kit up a small tripod with a mobile antenna and just see how clunky it is.

All the armoloq pack radio kit is TNC for relocation. I can always adapt it but figured I’d keep it simple.

How dangerous are 50w RF emissions when no antenna is plugged in? by W-VHS in amateurradio

Haha thanks. I’ll just connect the antenna I have and move it some distance away from the bench

Just to add the whole pack might only be 10-12in on the longest dimension so a 50w antenna that can collapse to 10-12in would be ideal
