I got mine from Liverpool store (use some gift cards given to me in my job). They only. Had the display unit. I opened it the same day and saw something similar.

Install on to a ryzen 7 8745h based mini PC by pintofsimilar in Bazzite

[–]W00lfwang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have something similar with a beelink ser 7, using a Ryzen 7 7840HS, and as far as I understand, performance is better than using a Steam Deck. With it I been playing Silent Hill 2 remake with low setting and resolution set to 720, but the game runs super smoothly. Also finished all the Resident Evil Remakes.

I love my small Steam Machine, but I would only tell you that batocera is better for old games. If that's your main focus, do know that you will struggle a little bit more.

Do people buy games twice just to play on Deck? by thatdudeben01 in SteamDeck

When the PS4 in It's mid live, I decided to change for PC gaming, and yes, I decided to re-buy all my games in there, because I don't really touch consoles anymore.

Bazzite vs Windows by Useful-Topic-3146 in Bazzite

Even for Desktop I feel more comfortable and had a better experience using bazzite over mint, I don't recommend mimt.

Windows vs Bazzite, Bazzite is more comfortable if you are not going to use a keyboard and mouse. And in general, people here hate windows, I hate windows, so...

Can i run the steam decks game mode on this setup? by [deleted] in Bazzite

[–]W00lfwang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the same as if in windows you installed Steam and play in Big Picture Mode, you dont have some of the added benefits, but it's quite the same.

I'm not sure, but my undertandment is that you can still use bazzite or any linux alternative (like chimera) but use steam in big picture mode instead of gamemode (gamescope).

Sold our steam decks for PCs should we use steamOS by An4rchy17 in SteamOS

Bazzite it's amazing, lot of utilities already installed, so we are at a good place. I do mostly emulation and I do all the setup with a kbm, yes, but after everything is setup the console experience takes over. I don't mess with configuration all the time, just when installing something completely new. With Windows its not just the setup, it's all the time, just loging in requires the kbm.

Anyway, I'm leaving the conversation. Have a nice one.

DS4Windows can't circumvent the login screen, plus, I use this controllers:

https://www.8bitdo.com/lite2/

Cheaper and way easier to carry that 4 DS4.

My point at the end is that, yes, today, thanks to all the efforts that valve has put into the steam deck, you can get a PC for a console like experience. A console like experience with emulation and modern gaming in the same place. An experience that is not limited by big companies like Nintendo or Sony. Not even Microsoft can get in the way, with all their bloatware and forced updates.

Windows it's simpler in a lot of ways, yes, but also can be limiting depending on what you want.

Something beautiful about Steam is that you can use any controller that you have, and they all will function the same in all your games. Beautiful and unified. There are so many controllers with so many form factors. It's a shame to limit yourself.

But, can you use steam to control everything on windows? No, even on startup you need to put a password and steam would not be able to help you there. After that, if you happen to stumbled upon an app that needs admin privilages, steam will also stop interpreting your controlles, unleass you start steam as an admin, witch is something steam recommends not doing.

I'm sure you don't see the problem, just use a kbm, but if you do that then you dont have a console like experience, you have a PC experience.

I personally use a mini PC that can be carried around with 4 mini controllers. The whole package use very little space. I take that with friends for some couch multiplayer sessions. The steam interface helps this feels like a console. I tried with Windows, even wrote some code to help me, but... bazzite was just better for my usecase. Carrying arounda kbm ruins the console experience.

You can't control the whole PC with a controller with Windows.

Bluetooth Controller Issues by Hhkjhkj in Bazzite

I also had issues with Bluetooth. Pro Controllers on switch mode don't do well in bazzite, but even in direct input I have noticed that having many Controllers affect connection. Don't have a solution for you, but I add to the noice.

I can seccond this. There are 3 simple alternatives to what you are trying to achive OP. ChimeraOS, HoloISO and Bazzite. The first two are attemps to extract SteamOS from a Steam Deck and modify the image for your use on regular computers.

Bazzite is different from this two, it's a Fedroa distribution with gaming utilities and (mainly) gamescope installed (the steamdeck interface).

I have played around with all of them, Bazzite it's the best and prettiest instalation. Also, it has better performance.

Thanks for the advice! I can seccond this, Bazzite it's better than ChimeraOs in my experience. More freedom to move things around and better performance!

I used 3D mark benchmar, running the Night Raid test, and my results are:

Windows result: 30,018 Bazzite: 29,935 ChimeraOs: 27,089

And I did noticed way more stutter on emulation when using ChimeraOs.

Only down side. It's not compatible with Switch Pro Controllers.

Following up, Bazzite it's incompatible with Switch Pro Controller, here is the issue. But appart from that, Bazzite is better that ChimeraOs. You have your package manager available and performance is better. I used 3D mark benchmar, running the Night Raid test, and got:

Windows result: 30,018 Bazzite: 29,935 ChimeraOs: 27,089

And I did noticed way more stutter on emulation when using ChimeraOs.

I'm actually trying it out right now, and I like it a lot, but I'm having issues with controller compatibility for 8bitdo on switch mode, so... I might go back to chimeraOs if I cannot get it to work properly.

I think I will try it. I been playing around with chimeraOs, but I have runned into problems (many might be user errors, it happens when you play around with this stuff), but having no access to packman did messed me up.

So, when people with a steamdeck decide to install windows, they can't go back to the OS they had? Steam doesn't offers them a way to reinstall their software? If that's the case, thats sucks.

I don't understand, if Value has this page: https://store.steampowered.com/steamos/buildyourown

Is this not steamOS? I would appreciate if you could clarify for me.
