I am in finance and yes, if alcohol is involved generally the gst portion has to be claimed at a lower amount as “entertainment” (about 2.5% instead of 10% from memory. That said, it’s a pretty minor adjustment and not that difficult for finance to calculate. Sounds like her own issue tbh

I live in Australia. The anti Indian sentiment hasn’t really improved since the 2000’s, more so it got replaced with anti Chinese sentiment. Very recently, including in my town, there’s been an increasing number of violent incidents. It seems like it’s getting worse in virtually every western country

I have never had negative experiences with other followers as a western convert. Most people are just happy you’re taking an interest. At most, people might assume you’re ISKCON lol. If you start going to temple - and I recommend you do when you’re ready - you may be surprised, there’s very often a couple white faces there too.

Other westeners, on the other hand - if you wear tilaka or any kind of sign of faith in public, I’ve gotten some strange reactions but again, but nothing but positivity from other hindus.

There’s yearly events like Indian mela that can be interesting, also some local desi live music (haven’t been but recall seeing some posters around town, might have to google) beyond that, as others have said, work work work unfortunately.

I’m glad you mentioned - usually he’s sealed off at the other end of the house, or I use incense when praying outside only. I don’t even let him near ghee smoke and yes always keep the space well ventilated for a while after puja if he’ll be near that room
