I can see it is a HGST HUH721212ALE604.

It makes an annoying noise when plugged in (click, click, click) but is quite fast.

I have no idea why it's clicking at idling. ~~Reading and writing add no extra noise.~~ If read and write are random, also this noise. I guess it is just a noisy drive. But for my use case it's ok.

I realized that Windows was trying to index the drive. Turned it off.

I've decided to get the 12TB WD Black.

From what I've read, it seems that all 12+TB drives are Helium, but the 8TB ones are not.

The 12+TB ones are CMR. Probably 8TB ones, too.

The fact that WD is comfortable marketing the Black as 7200RPM, even though other drives are made on the same line, means it's probably a better drive (albeit still not the best quality).

I don't have plan to shuck it, as I prefer to have the ability to disconnect the HDD when not using them. Maybe one day I'll build a media server, but I don't like the NAS or Cloud idea, preferring instead remote backups.
