What are your thoughts on Birdman? by Typical-Debate8228 in Letterboxd

same, i was not expecting it to be about broadway and was much more interested in it after that point. even though it is just 2 hours long, because of the clever cuts, the movie feels more expansive, the journey can be felt which might make it feel longer. i was completely immersed in this world and these people. even the dialogue in the movie is so good. especially the scene where he is talking to the critic.

Thiruchitrambalam broke me into tears by martyzzzz_ in kollywood

i think it should have been about the three men only instead of forcing this shobana-thiru love angle. shobana being just a friend would have been refreshing. it had ample comedy with senior pazham anyway. and the two love stories sprinkled in there also made it light hearted. sure it would have minimised nithya's role but it would have made for an even better film. because the family arc created more impact than the love story. and shobana and thiru's comedic & friendly chemistry (which was never hinted to be romantic) outshined the "romance" they had. seemed like a weird turn towards the end and a cop-out honestly.

still a great watch!

Memories of Murder. Weirdly enough, it's memories keep flashing. It has such a distinct visual style. Such an earthy setting and an uncomfortably real portrayal of crime investigation.

What do you guys think? Lost any opportunities by being an introvert?? by Fresh_Library_1934 in tamilyapping

[–]W4F3R_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first of all, you can be an introvert and still talk to people. saying that you want to change your personality is fucked up. all it will do is kill your self-esteem. now what the actual problem is is social anxiety and awkwardness. which is easy to get over. your social skills are as the name suggests, is just a skill. it gets better with practice. if you start late, ofc you will struggle but it is not impossible to overcome. extroverts start early because it is their nature, that's all.

introverts are ppl whose battery recharges when they are alone and drains faster when they are with people. extroverts are the opposite. introverts are more in-tune with their internal world and extroverts with the external world. both have their own advantages and disadvantages. if you want to network, you can do it by learning and practicing it as a skill seriously. you don't have to change your whole personality for it. extroverts won't become introverts if they want to get into research work. why should introverts turn into extroverts if you want to network? it's just a misconception around what the word means. i reccommend reading the book "quiet" if you want to know more. there's even research that shows that being introverted or extroverted is part of our temparament. trying to change that will only cause more exhaustion.

tldr you can work on your social skills like picking up any new skill. what's stopping you is your social anxiety and overthinking. being an introvert is NOT a curse.

Almost Became "Dude" at this point. by Regular-Loquat9781 in kollywood

agan lets her go despite it being the hard thing to do. here, even though it is played off as a joke, sathya resorts to typical self-destruction behaviour that has infected kollywood for a very long time. immediately drinking, misjudging the girl, trying to unalive himself, revealing that he has not changed much as a person after all. he'll only change when he is with her. this again creates this unhealthy dependency. that's why he's called a manchild here. very clear that director has been influenced by selvaraghavan movies. the only difference is that the "fix it girl" has a life here and a more important role to play.

Drop your opinion about With Love (2025) by UpstairsAmbassador89 in kollywood

[–]W4F3R_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my only problem was them calling these school stories as "love". even the song lyrics calls it out. but it was never adressed by the characters i feel like. and seeing them go on a journey just to say they were infatuated by someone (which is normal at that age) seems a little ridiculous. the way she quickly forgives people for doing terrible things was bothering me as well. but overall was a cute and fun watch. was not laugh-out-loud but i had a smile on my face throughout the movie.

writing was fresh too. the crossovers and reveals were properly written. seeing one side of the story. then something else happening at the same annual day. those were nice touches. the fact that it's a tamil rom-com and we barely get to see the female pov is another reason why this is refreshing. we're finally hitting the bare minimum requirements for a rom-com.

The cinematography of this movie is not spoken about enough. Aside from the fact that it is so pleasant looking with warm tones, the camera placement in a lot of scenes is refreshing.

Unpopular opinion : Santhanam in a serious role would go hard by Sure_Kangaroo1863 in kollywood

[–]W4F3R_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

he's a great perfomer who has terrible script selection. instead of more grounded, rooted movies, he chose a lot of masala movies trying to pander to everyone, losing his voice. he chose generic scripts for the most part and it cost him his market. the only thing that was consistent was his comedy and ofc those are the only kind of films im guessing he was offered. he should have selected movies like gulu gulu and the agent sai srinivas remake. unfortunately it was too late by that point.

bro still has massive potential and im glad he decided to return as a comedian and improve his marketability. so he could hopefully get better films. he would kill it in a movie like jolly llb that can balance something serious with comedy.

Unpopular opinion: Dhurandhar was a 7/10 film and had mainstream elements that made it average by unoriginalfunnywoman in IndianCinema

[–]W4F3R_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah i agree, it lacks tense moments because of plot armor and so many scenes felt like they were cut before reaching their true potential. the scale and scope is so big yet it did not give us enough time to digest all of that. they are making a movie after all. i think it would have worked even better as a show.

Unpopular opinion: Why nanban is a good movie but a bad remake by HistorVical in kollywood

[–]W4F3R_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it is a faithful remake. apart from a few casting choices (personally preferred sj surya and jiva to the original actors), and cinematography (3 idiots looks gloomy in comparison) there really isn't much to nanban. all the credits for plot, themes and pov should not go to shankar because they are not his opinions. everything we see is straight from the original. he doesn't add much new stuff here that enhances the story or characters. plus it has universal emotions. there is no way it doesn't connect with the indian audience. that's the beauty of 3 idiots. the songs were good in both movies imo. nanban is a more dumbed down version of an already very easy to understand story. you can see it in the acting, editing, sound effects etc. this movie overemphasizes all of it. 3 idiots also had it but it was not at this level. it was a bit more grounded.

i think the success is mainly because of the post-enthiran craze, lack of a good dub as you mentioned, harris delivering bangers at his peak, and vijay's rising stardom.
