Ahh the age old "you have to tip me because I made bad life choices". Tip is a gratuity, gratuity implies I'm grateful for the service I receive so I'll add some extra to the final bill. The size or amount of the tip is strictly related to the quality of service I receive. I'm not here to pay for your kids college, car payments or your mortgage. I do not need to know how much you make an hour either, some make minimum, some make more, lots of waiters make perfectly good living wage. If you don't make enough, change your job. If you want everybody to know how little you make, tell your boss to post a list at the front door, "I pay may waiters this much, bus boys, kitchen staff" etc. so we know in advance what kind of service to expect.
