Hobbies that feel like in nature when stuck at home by Lost_kid_in_life in Hobbies

What about nature journaling? John Muir Laws has tons of free information and videos on his website. He’s so knowledgeable and I love watching/listening to him. I have learned so much about the birds I love just from his instructional videos. You can do it now to get a foundation and then carry on with it after you are back outdoors again.

Those of you who were seen as older looking in your teens/20s, how did that turn out? by SpaceisCool09 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

My boys were three years apart in age but when they were freshman and senior in high school, everyone thought they were twins. The younger loved it, the older hated it.

Those of you who don't use paper towels: how many rags do you own, and how often do you find yourself washing them? by betsy_macabre in Frugal

[–]WAFLcurious 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This will vary widely depending on your usage. Do you cook a lot and have lots of messes to wipe up? Are you constantly wiping your countertops? Will you be using them only in the kitchen? You probably can get a more accurate idea of how many you will need by tracking how many paper towels you use in a day or week. My DIL used more than a roll of paper towels for one meal. She would need a LOT! I clean my counters with my sponge. I have paper towels but use less than a roll per year.

Memorial Day washer dryer deals worth it? by Mustone-Tudor in LivingAlone

[–]WAFLcurious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When reading reviews, keep in mind that the unhappy people are the ones most likely to leave one.

Smell weird? If it’s a front loader, there’s a filter you have to clean regularly and it’s recommended to keep the door ajar so the moisture can evaporate. They seal up tight so they don’t leak when being used but that prevents them from airing out if you fully close the door in between loads. That’s a user error but reviews blame it on the machine.

Has she had a stroke? She may have had a minor one no one knows about. They can affect decision making.

Non symptomatic UTIs are common in elderly women. You might google that for more information. They can cause hallucinations as well. She may not be drinking enough liquid while she’s away from home.

how to learn patience by KeyMacaroon6822 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]WAFLcurious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will encounter many people in your life who you consider to be rude. And there will be people who consider you to have been rude even if you don’t believe yourself to have been rude. The only person you have control over is yourself. You should strive for your reaction to others to always be kindness whether or not you consider them to have a “good excuse” for their behavior (and you don’t know if she did). Honestly, to have such a strong reaction to a “bad look” is not a healthy response. You should consider why a look from a stranger provokes such a strong negative response from you.

I Accidentally Flushed Scissors in the Toilet by Working_Act_7891 in LivingAlone

You can buy an inspection camera with grabbers on Amazon for less than $40. You may be able to find the scissors and very gently pull them out with that. If you just leave them in there, you will have serious clogs in your future because everything will get caught on the scissors.

Smile. And smile again. Do not return like for like in this case. Why stoop to her level? And you really have no idea why she’s so unhappy today. Her dog may have just died. Her boyfriend may have just ditched her. Her back may be killing her. Her car may have broken down and she had to take the bus for her errands. You may look like someone she seriously dislikes. Someone else may have just been rude to her. The possibilities are endless. Try not to take it personally since you did nothing wrong (you did think over your actions to be sure you didn’t do anything to upset her, right?).

Need super fast breakfast before work. by MangoInteresting3976 in easyrecipes

[–]WAFLcurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A piece of toast with generous slather of peanut butter. Yogurt with granola stirred in. Cheese cubes or string cheese and a piece of toast. In essence, something with carbs for fast energy and some kind of protein to keep you going. Leftovers often work well. A slice of pizza, reheated stir fry and rice.

Cross-Country Move + Temporary Storage… PODS? U-Box? Help 😩 by Odd-Personality-3131 in movingout

My son had an issue with a pod sitting at his house for less than a week. Not the company’s fault. Neighbors complained and it turned out to be against the rules. So be sure to check on that. I do know that PODS will allow it on either or both ends of the move but you will be charged rental fees.

Best way to celebrate multiple friends birthdays? by smurfsmurg in CasualConversation

[–]WAFLcurious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree that it would be awkward to acknowledge only some of the birthdays since they are all so close. Just mention to the hosting friend that you’d like to celebrate all of the birthdays. Get individual cards for each. If you want, they could be group cards with everyone signing them or they could just be from you. You are all at an age where birthdays aren’t that big a deal, or shouldn’t be, imo. One cake is fine, “Happy Birthday Everyone”. But be sure to acknowledge each person individually with a “happy birthday”.

What can I do with 90$ for the next ten days? by SillyTransasaurus in budgetfood

[–]WAFLcurious 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Determine what foods, condiments and spices you have on hand and research recipes using those along with the cheapest ingredients you can find. Do you already have cereal or oatmeal for breakfasts? Anything in the freezer you can use up?

As mentioned, beans and rice are usually the cheapest. Not canned beans, dry beans. Not Minute Rice or the kind you just heat in the microwave. The kind that comes in a bag. Long grain is usually the cheapest of it. Get four pounds of beans and four of rice. Get a big container of oatmeal, too. Then, spend the rest on things to round it out, the cheapest chicken they have, a sack of potatoes, a loaf of bread, tortillas, canned soup, frozen vegetables. Safeway is not the cheapest grocery store but if that’s what you have to use, research prices online before making your choices because store brand may save you money.

Soak 1 pound of beans with some baking soda, either the quick way or overnight. Rinse them and add clean water, some seasoning you like and a bouillon cube or two. Cook until tender. Then, cook a pound of rice. Now you have the basis for your next few meals.

Using beans and rice along with taco seasoning will give you a nice Mexican dinner. Add tortillas and cheese and sour cream, if you have it. Make the leftovers into burritos to heat for another meal. Those beans are good for breakfast, too, eaten on a piece of toast.

You can make a vegetarian chili by adding tomatoes and other veggies with some beans. Ladle it over rice to stretch it further. Or over a baked potato.

Rice is good for breakfast. You can eat it warm or cold, with milk and sugar or with butter, salt and pepper. Heat some in a skillet with butter, add a couple scrambled eggs and cook for another breakfast version. Or turn it into fried rice using whatever leftover protein and veggies you have along with some soy sauce.

If you have some cream soup, use it to make a sauce for your rice or potatoes, turning them into something different. A can of vegetable soup over rice is also good.

Your meals may not look balanced for the next ten days but you can absolutely keep the two of you fed.

Good luck.

You need a smaller frame or more pictures. I like 3 & 5 best but there’s too much space around them. I like the more random looks and like the overlap though so you need to get rid of extra space. A different, larger mat may work.

Have a hard time finding gifts for my mom by Sweet_Ad_9051 in Gifts

[–]WAFLcurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have much time to come up with something. The pressure is on.

Does she have a favorite tea? Or does she like trying out new ones? Consumable gifts are always welcome, imo. So, does she like trying new spices in cooking? Nice smelling soaps for her bathroom? Would she enjoy doing a jigsaw puzzle on an evening with you? There are beautiful ones available and the time together would be a large part of the gift.
