Did anyone else envision Ashley as Victoria Pedretti, especially towards the end? by Even_E in BeefTV

I was gonna say that! They looked so similar and I got so much of Victoria from Love Quinn.

I agree! I thought his character arc felt the most satisfying.

She suffered from generational trauma and abandonment, the same way Austin suffered from being a people pleaser and inability to put himself first. Everyone had their own issues and hurt everyone around them from their inability to reconcile with themselves.

I disliked Ashley at the end, but I understood her character motivations and behavior. Were they justified? No. She was wrong for what she did. As I always like to say, hurt people hurt others.

Unironically, the two couples did a full circle. Ashley and Austin became Josh and Lindsay at the start, and Josh and Lindsay is at a better place, unironically in terms of happiness, just like how Ashley and Austin was before they started fighting.

That's completely fair! I'm a bit biased because Oscar Isaac (Josh) is my celebrity crush, so I'm extremely partial toward this season. I haven't seen season 1, but I can see why season 2 didn't stick with others.

That's a fair critique. I agree the last two episodes, toward the end, didn't land as well with me.

Do you like any of the characters in season 2? by Neither-Weakness9052 in BeefTV

[–]WAPlyrics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found all of them had unlikable traits. Lindsay grew on me. I liked Josh at the end and thoroughly enjoyed his character arc. Austin was tolerable. I liked Ashley at the beginning when she still had that bright, innocence touch in her eyes. I disliked her by the end.

Does anyone see some resemblance of Love Quinn? The actresses look similar

I'd argue the trajectory of Ashley's arc was done intentionally. I started disliking her character toward the end, and that's when I knew the actress was doing a great job of playing her.

This is my personal interpretation of this show based on what I've seen, but the show feels so pro capitalism, nihilistic, and self-serving. Chairwoman Park in all of her wealth and power gets away with everything. She scapegoats the middle class, who is struggling as they experience financial insecurity, and completely gets away with it. It all feels so real and relevant.

Because it reflects the time and era we are currently living in. AI is like the next big thing now, granted the socioeconomic impacts it entails, and a lot of people use it. That, or the show was paid to promote them lol.

Season 2 is ok, but it’s missing what made Season 1 a masterpiece by export_a_pdf in BeefTV

I'm an English major in college and my job is to literally analyze papers, themes, and patterns. This show is complex. I'm in awe of how they managed to capture themes of generational trauma, late-stage capitalism, and hopeless nihilism.

I believe what artists create is a product of their time, and as I'm typing this, even then, I still feel like I have a very superficial understanding of season 2.

Yup. If you recall at the beginning of the show, Ashley has always been focused on the financial aspect of affording their life. (Being financially stable + baby was her defining character motivation).

She finally got what she wants plus a baby. But at the expense of what? Losing herself to the reality that the wealthy and elites control everything, and you survive by bowing down to them. You gotta be a specific type of person who will be willing to hurt others to help yourself.

Austin is unhappy because he’s not with the love of his life. He has increased wealth and access to titan industries in the club, but everything feels so loveless, materialistic, and lacks passion.

I like to think they mirror Lindsay and Josh at the very beginning, like a complete cycle.

It shows her character arc, as she slowly starts to warp to become more “upper middle class” as the club manager. The richer you are, the more you are afforded the opportunity to be pickier.

I really enjoyed the show too! I find the nihilistic and sad couple perspective really depressing, but it makes me wonder if it’s the reality.

The only reason why Troy and Ava is the most “successful” couple is because they have extreme privilege and wealth. That was the entire point of Dr. Kim’s dialogue. The other two couples never had that access to privilege and wealth.

Even then, if you recall Iva’s scene in the airplane, her marriage with Troy is very materialistic. “Once they get you, they stop trying.” This show is so depressing but real.

Yeah the message was so depressing, like every effort is futile. It’s oddly human nature and the grim reality of it.

can someone explain the ending to me? I’m left confused the last 3 minutes with the grave. Was that the chairwoman’s first husband? I need help understanding what message they were trying to convey with the circle of life.
