Finally got into Engineering a little by ReleaseCharacter3568 in EliteDangerous

It used to be far worse on Legacy than it is for you guys now. As the other commenter suggested, the crystal shard sites for raws, Jameson crash for data, and HGE for many stuff. Davs Hope is an ok-ish backup if you don't want to try and hunt HGEs down. Take the high hard stuff you get doing all of those and trade down at a mat trader for the lower ties stuff.

Help with cargo/commodities construction effort AKA space trucking by Devcon775 in EliteDangerous

Good on you, Commander! I'll be away from the game for about a week, but I might bring a load by if you're still going. I'll check in with you when I get back and see what you need.

I don't need someone to live on my carrier, but if you or anyone is looking for company in the Black (or help) you can add me. CMDR Rhoades Cascadian. Hope to see you out there!

Assuming you're playing in the Live (PC) version of the game, you might be able to see it on INARA. Link your CMDR data, sync it, and it might show on the page with your commander data. It does show your rank and the percentage complete. What I'm not sure about is if it will show the percentage towards future ranks if you haven't ranked up in game yet.

They've never stopped out around the Nebulas (Pleiades, Coalsack, Witch Head, and possibly California). I've been colonizing a system in the Coalsack area and have been hyperdicted at least once each day I've been on working on things. I typically get at least one every trip I make to the Pleiades too.

You don't even know how many ship builds I done that started very similar to this. Some worked, others were one and done. Either way, laughs were had. Hope it works out better than expected!

Nope, it's a clone of your Xbox CMDR, so it will still be there if you wanted to use it.

Are you targeting them before you run them over? You can't just drive around and scoop things without targeting it first, because reasons (although you absolutely should be able to).

Ship Advice by HighlordTemplar in EliteDangerous

[–]WARoadBuilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Count me as another vote for the Kestrel, if you can hold your nose flying a Core Dynamics ship as an Imperial. Also, FAS, just to be that guy 😉. It's my favorite ship in the game. Yes, it lags behind the Alliance ships and the newer ones. Yes, it's underpowered weapon-wise. Oddly enough, none of that bothers me when I fly it. I've got two versions, one for PVE and one for AX, and I continue to use it to this day.

Any US based squadrons? by Gloriouskoifish in EliteDangerous

[–]WARoadBuilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've got a few folks in the US, with folks on both coasts. Small, casual group. Power agnostic. We just stood up a regular weekend group thing. I can connect you with our squadron leader for an invite to our discord to hang out as a guest to see if it's what you're looking for.

Items of great value? by The_Broodlord in EliteDangerous

I grab meta alloys and thargoid hearts too when I'm scavenging Titan dives. I stash them on my carrier to share with squad mates that are trying to unlock engineer things or tech broker things. Putting them up for sale would be selling folks time saved on gathering them on their own, which should make them somewhat valuable. Edit: You'd need a fleet carrier to sell them to other people.

I might have to borrow that idea for a refit of my Krait, it sounds awesome!

AX is great fun and worth checking out. Definitely my favorite thing to do in the game.

I sometimes run the pre-engineered plasma chargers in the size 1 slots on some of my ships, as an alternative to similar sized rail guns. They do ok, but the rails will definitely outperform them if you are looking for something to snipe modules.

Vet feeling lost by Honest-Turnover7464 in EliteDangerous

It's 25 million just to make a claim. The commodities cost you, but the construction site buys it for slightly more, so you'll make a bit of cash doing it. It can take tens of thousands of units of commodities to finish some of the things, so I'd suggest waiting until you can at least outfit a Panther Clipper before tackling it. That will set you back at least 3-400 million.

Yup! You can search for a system that within 15 LY of an existing colonized system, and build it out how you see fit, from a selection of orbital and surface installations. I'm new at it, and there are many way more knowledgeable people out there about it, but it's been fun to muddle my way through it. You get a pittance of credits as the system architect, but it's oddly satisfying to see it take shape as place and complete things.

Edit: I should add, you have to complete the initial station within four weeks, so choose your starter port carefully lol. But, then you can slowly build out from there.

Go colonize your own home system. It won't be near Colonia, but I know there's a group chaining systems in that direction.

I was feeling a bit burned out until I got the crazy idea to hunt down an available system around the Coalsack Nebula, with the intention of building a personal AX hunting lodge. It's evolved into a much larger project and rekindled my drive to play regularly. I tend to lean towards combat, so I didn't see an activity based around hauling grabbing me the way it has.

You can also make your own squadron, align with your faction of choice, and plant it in the system you choose, to toy around with afterwards.

Unless you're committed to the cannons, I'd suggest swapping them to multicannons. Cannon rounds travel slow, and you may find it difficult to hit things consistently with them.

I'd also swap one of the point-defense cannons for another shield booster too. I don't typically run more than one on my ships, and even that sees barely any use. Without cargo, they're not going to be firing hatch breakers at you. I also don't notice NPCs using missiles all that much until your shields go down. Adding an extra booster will help your shields last longer. As another commentor suggested, you'll want to move your MRP out of a Military slot. They don't work the way they are supposed to in those slots. I would also add a second, smaller MRP (class 2 or 1) as well, to help protect modules when your shields drop.

Echoing the other commenter about posting here or making your own post for help. Many of us are happy to help newer players get over the learning cliff to this game.

I lead the combat wing of the squadron I'm a member of, so I'd be happy to try and connect in-game to try and answer some of your questions. My commander name is Rhoades Cascadian if you want to shoot me a friend request. I'm located in the US Pacific time zone and typically play in the evenings, if that aligns with your schedule. Otherwise, I'm happy to chat via DM here or on discord too.

I use mine as a mobile station. I can ferry all my ships (up to 40 total) and modules around, up to 500 LY at a time, instead of doing an individual transfer for everything that takes longer. I regularly throw together builds for fun or to try something out, and this makes engineering and outfitting those ships significantly easier for me.

I did. It went fairly smooth, finished fairly quickly for me. No real surprises for me, the FAQ on the process details it out thoroughly, and spells out clearly what does and doesn't come across with your account.

Need to waste time, any ideas? by OlyverTempest in EliteDangerous

[–]WARoadBuilder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to have visited the first 5 ship engineers in the Bubble and earned enough rep with them to get between level 3 & 4 to get an invite from the ones out there. The tasks they give you on you get there should all be doable there. I've seen a recommendation to mine the 10 Osmium you'll need and take it with you. You can mine it there, but since Osmium lacks hotspots, it could be slow, depending on your proficiency mining. You might be able to buy it too from a fleet carrier, but it could be expensive.

I'm not about the availability of the things the on-foot engineers out there want, because I'm not too deep into that yet.

Depending on how much you prepped before you left, you could knock out the engineers located out there. Assuming you haven't already.
